What if Ian March married a girl named April? Would she then be April March? ..... Wooooooo hooooooo.

Made trip to  Seton vs. SV to see Valentine and Spratt. Was impressed with Valentine’s 25 and Spratt’s 37.  Most impressive was Spratt’s defense.  They switched him onto Valentine in the 2nd and Spratt held him to only 6 points over final 3 quarters, with minimal help.  Seems like few scorers are interested in defense. Who are some other 2 way stars that impress you?
Mike White
11:42
There are a number of players who score a lot and play defense. Of course, there are a number of players who score a lot and don't play much defense. Too hard to single out best defenders around.

Central hoops can go back to reality now lol they were never good and never will be just got a few lucky wins
Mike White
11:43
Ahhhh, they still might be the best team in 6A. Are they overwhelming? No. But there isn't a team in 6A that is overwhelming.

Which WPIAL swimmer do you think has the best backstroke?
Mike White
11:44
I'm more of a butterfly person, especially when they land on the flowers in my back yard.

Hi Mike. I know it’s a few weeks away but have you heard how the WPIAL playoffs will work this year? are the lower seeds hosting until the semi-finals again?
Mike White
11:45
I don't think that has been determined yet.

I attend a lot of high school basketball games and it amazes me that schools never post rosters and other team information about the two teams playing. Spectators are always asking “what year is that player” or “what grade is that player”. I have a simple solution, just have each host school post a printed roster for each team with name, number, grade and height on a wall and allow fans to snap a photo of it with their phone.
Mike White
11:46
Not a bad idea. Some schools used to have just a simple one page to give out to fans, with rosters of both teams. I agree it would be nice. But to be honest, when I think about it, I don't think schools have been giving out rosters for years now.

what are ur thought on char Valley this year?
Mike White
11:48
They're good. Not great. Really lack size and that hurts. But if Davis, Sleva and others are shooting it, they can be a problem. They also hound you with full-court pressure. So you better have someone to handle. They try to spread you out (5 out) and get to rim or kick out for 3's.

Thoughts on Connor Spratt’s supporting cast at seton la salle?
Mike White
11:50
Well, not cutting down other players. But they seem to be much better when Spratt plays. They were 1-7 at one point. Now they are 4-9.

I think the media is feeding a very unsportsmanlike story.  A star player should not even be on the floor, let alone running up the score shooting layups against JV level competition. Could you imagine Cummings, Gallagher, Spratt, Parnham on the court up 30?  Why front page stories about this contrived nonsense? I think everyone except Aquanis would agree that this is Not the “feel good” story PG is presenting.
Mike White
11:54
Never presented it as a feel good story. Vinnie Cugini is going to break the WPIAL scoring record. No matter how he is doing it, it's worth a story. A kid who averages 45 points a game is newsworthy, whether he shoots a lot or not. I did a bigger story on him two weeks ago. I think it was fair, trying to point out he has talent, but also that he plays some fairly weak competition and that his team plays a style that allows him to get many shots and points. That isn't to say he isn't talented. No one ever said he's the best two or three players in WPIAL, either. What do you want us to do, ignore a kid averaging 45 a game and who is going to break a 30-year-old scoring record?

Any insight on why Steve Bezila was passed over for the PCC job? He's a Central admin, grad, and was on staff for about a decade?
Mike White
11:55
No idea. I touched on this earlier. I'm not on selection committees. Besides being a Central grad and assistant, is his resume any better than Lehmeier? Just askin'. But I admit I was also a little surprised they didn't go for a Central guy.

So ever since I said the Char Valley Boys would never be beaten they've lost 3. It's my fault isn't it ?

Yes.

Hello Mr. White!  Love reminiscing about AAAA football in the 80’s & 90’s.   Jim Render was one of the best as he dominated the late 80’s and 90’s.  Any coincidence the USC rise to power just happen to coincide with Art Walker retiring early from Lebo after the 87 season?  Not saying Render and USC would not have been great, but Walker had it rolling at Lebo as well to say the least.  Your take?  Thanks!
Mike White
11:58
C'mon, man. Can't you just give both guys credit for what they did. Art Walker was great. So was Render.

Any idea of when Boice of New Castle will be back?
Mike White
11:58
Not sure. And not sure if he will be back.

Good Morning. As an alumni of Geibel Catholic  I had heard this was supposed to be their best year in decades but they seem to be having a down year. Do they stand any chance against Monessen Friday? Looks like they got crushed earlier in the year
Mike White
11:58
I'll go with Monessen.

Saw Canevin beat constitution out of Philly pretty convincingly, they play Highlands tonight. Do they put themselves back into discussion seems like everyone forgot about them.
Mike White
11:59
Canevin is still good. No one said they weren't. Loss to Eden Christian dropped them in rankings some.

Cugini might be most over-hyped player in recent memory. Consider: Cugini and Depante played mid-level AAU together for several years. Cugini scored about 60% of Depante.  Depante is scoring about 16 a game.  Do the math. Could make a case that he is a top 25 WPIAL player but I think we are all fatigued with this nonsense.
Mike White
12:01
I saw that AAU team play a little in the spring. No, Vinnie Cugini wasn't a big scorer in AAU. Like I said before, I've even written stories about competition of Aquinas and the number of shots. But like I said before, too. Are we supposed to ignore it?

12:01
You have been doing a weekly boys and girls basketball notebook, will you be doing the same for baseball and softball in the spring?
Mike White
12:02
It hasn't been just me. But yes we will do it in baseball and softball. We've been doing it number of years in Varsity Xtra section. A baseball and softball notebook will be nothing new.

Saw the Sfanos kid from Mars went over 1k last week. He’s a nice player. What was impressive was reading he was the 12th player at Mars since 2006 to score 1k. Long shot but any idea what school has the most 1k scorers
Mike White
12:02
No idea.

12:03
Hey Mike, it seems like 5A boys has 2 sections that are good and 2 that aren't.  What are your thoughts?
Mike White
12:03
You pretty much hit it on the head, especially the one section with a few teams at the bottom that really struggle.

And opinion on pihl hockey? Is sawyer Klasnick the next mcdavid?
Mike White
12:04
I see him more as the next Pierre LaRouche or Jean Pronovost.

Mike- Carter Gould is an up and coming freshman for Mt. Lebanon. “Lil-bug” has been an absolute MONSTROSITY for Lebo JV and is quickly earning more varsity minutes. Scored his first buckets against Cannon-Mac recently. Keep your eye out for him in the coming months/years.
