Yes, if OLSH goes to PIAA quarters, they will have six success points. That, combined with at least one transfer in the past two years, will move them up to 3A next season. You must have 6 success points over two seasons and at least one transfer in basketball to be bumped up in class.

Neither. But one thing. Yes, Bob Palko "retired" at West A., but I know he wasn't really happy about administration there. Wonder how West A. administration feels now? West A. hasn't made playoffs and has been below .500 all three seasons since Palko left.

Was able to finally see Ellwood Play last night . Ellwood seems very good as they have 3 players that could score 20 on you very quickly . Is that what makes them hard to beat ?

Ellwood is very good. You're talking about Steve Antuono and the Splash Brothers - Alexander and Joseph Roth. With what the Roth brothers are doing in basketball - and what they are doing in swimming, it is one of the best stories in WPIAL in any sport? They both average around 18-19 a game. And they have some of the top times in WPIAL 2A swimming. Who does this basketball-swimming combo? And does it so well? It's surreal. Love their story. Although Joseph told me earlier this year he might eventually give up one sport. Too much on his body. I understand.

Just horrible. You're talking about Ron Frederick passing away one day after he found out he got the football coaching job. His dream job. I don't know what else to say about it except condolences to Ron's game. No, I did not know him. But from all accounts, a great game. One of the saddest stories in WPIAL in years.

I read in New Castle News that New Castle is trying to turn a scrimmage with Bishop Canevin on Feb 17th into a regular season game. If that happens do you think it would be open to public?

No idea if that will happen. But you can open scrimmages open to the public if you really want. Teams do it all the time in preseason.

Like I said earlier, they do not play much of a non-section schedule. But can we at least give them "some" credit. They are only a 2A school, remember. True, they don't play a bunch of tough teams like Bishop Canevin. If they did, streak would be over. But can we at least give OLSH some credit?

Watching the Olympics and face it Team USA stinks at a lot of things, including the sports we invented. Do you ever see a time where US HS develop things like Curling programs or ski teams ?

No. High school athletic budgets have been cut at many places as it is. I don't see them adding sports like that, unless we're headed for the WPIAL X Games.

Butler Football moved out of WPIAL to compete....now being told they can't partake in playoffs for their new section.  What's going to happen with this?  They are "locked in" to the new section for next two years?

As of right now, nothing will happen. They can't participate in District 10 playoffs. And I don't blame WPIAL. Imagine if Butler would come out of District 10 and play a WPIAL team in PIAA playoffs. Would that seem right when they would win maybe 1 or 2 games in WPIAL 6A, which is the league they belong.

Mike, why should Mars get a 3 seed in 5A?  You could argue they should be the #1.  Laurel Highlands best opponent all year was Belle Vernon, who is maybe the 5th best team in 4A.  Why should they get rewarded for playing a bad non section schedule?  Mars has only lost one game to a team in PA, and that was to North Hills, who is destroying everyone.  And they only lost by 3....I just think that would make coaches want to make their schedules filled with more cupcakes in the future if you reward that.
