I'll take North Catholic.
I got money on this
11:31
Char Valley versus Lebo. My kid goes to CV. My sister's kids go to that other place. We have a wager. Who wins ?
Mike White
11:31
Hmmm. I'll go Lebo.

Does Seton LaSalle make a deep playoff run?
Mike White
11:33
Seton has to be one of most intriguing teams in 3A playoffs. With Spratt, they are a dangerous team.
Ilovebball
11:33
What do you think Setons chances are after a rough showing by Spratt last night vs South Fayette.  Was held to 5 pts.
Mike White
11:33
Must have been Post-Gazette athlete of the week jinx. We named him athlete of the week yesterday.

why do you dislike peters township? they are a outstanding team with a great set of players that have chemistry and consistency. their only losses were in the beginning of the season. i think you need to lay back on them, they are easily going to the pete.
Mike White
11:35
Here we go again. Read some of above posts. Peters is definitely good and could go to The Pete. Saying Penn Hills should've been the No. 1 seed is my opinion. That's allowed.

11:35
What up Cous?  Hey, quick question on the Pens.  Why do you think they struggle so much to put three good periods together?
Mike White
11:37
I think Syl Apps just needs to step up his game and they need more scoring from Pronovost. And really, who puts three good periods together? I mean, I have trouble typing three exclamation points together.

Some observations from this hoops season, Penn Hills got robbed of a 1 seed by a team from the worst section in 5A, South Allegheny also robbed, Vinnie is over rated, saw him score 37 n he never made a jump shot, no way he’s a good fit for UPJ, and 4A and 5A might be the most exciting playoff field
Mike White
11:38
Interesting observations. But why are you hating on Peters Township so much?
Loyalty
11:38
Mike, who are the longest tenured active coaches at the same school?  I find it very rare now a days for coaches to remain at the same place.  Loyalty is tough to find and often a two way street.  Just curious.  Thanks
Mike White
11:40
I'd have to look down the list of coaches. But you are right, coaches don't stick around long much any more, let alone at the same place. But it's not so much a loyalty thing. A number of factors drive coaches out - two main reasons being parents and the time factor.

How about some love for Lawrence County hoops? 12 of the 14 hoops teams (7 boys and 5 girls) qualified for the postseason. Not only that, but many of them are high seeds (New Castle boys, Union boys and girls, Shenango girls, etc.). What do you attribute to that level of success?
Mike White
11:41
OK, here you go. Hugs and kisses on Valentine's Day to every team, every coach, every player in Lawrence County. Love y'all.
But seriously, there have been some nice turnarounds in Lawrence County past few years, like at Mohawk.

Thoughts on Peters Township? I personally think they are really overrated. They may even be first round upsets
Mike White
11:42
Billy, why do you hate on Peters Township so much?

Did the Quips get  #1 seed because undefeated section record as seemed like Canevin had better record and played tougher schedule? I’ll hit send and wait for response. Thanks!
Mike White
11:45
Sorry, but I have no problem with Aliquippa being No. 1 seed. I think maybe the committee feels they might have the better team, by a small margin. And c'mon. Aliquippa did some good things, too. They lost to New Castle by only 5, beat Uniontown, who is 18-3, beat Steel Valley, the No. 1 seed in Class 3A.

Has the quality of WPIAL basketball gone down hill recently? I went to Aquinas vs Hillel last week to catch Cugini...Hillel was tough to watch (granted they were starting 4 freshman)
Mike White
11:46
Ahhhh, let's just say that section is not filled with juggernauts. Please don't judge WPIAL basketball off that section. No, WPIAL basketball isn't like it used to be in 1950s through 1970s, but please don't use that Class 1A section as a barometer.

Can't believe they set up SV and Seton to play in the second round.  They did not keep honest to the recent performance reasoning- no two teams are playing better in 3A and they are section rivals. Lazy and uniformed work. Will be fun to watch two of the top WPIAL dudes- just not that early
Mike White
11:48
I wouldn't say lazy and uninformed. But I wouldn't have put Seton right next to Steel Valley, either. Hey, Seton is no guarantee to beat Washington. But I think they could've had easy fix. They had Seton No. 9 seed and Burrell No. 10. Just switch Burrell and Seton. That would've solved things.

Sounds like Chapman got a raw deal with the concussion protocol. Trainer never informed him that the player was on concussion protocol. Superintendent of Sto Rox should stay out of it.
Mike White
11:52
It sure is a mess and I feel bad for Chapman because, in my opinion, the situation had many flaws. All I'll say is all the basketball games I've been to, I've never seen a superintendent from the other school come on the floor to check on a player. On the other hand, she was supposedly the "site manager" at the game. Looking back, probably what Dale Chapman should've done is go to the trainer and ask her what was her recommendation? But like Dale said, if it was wrong, why didn't the superintendent and trainer stop the game and tell the officials?

What happened at the Steele valley game last night that caused the game to be canceled? Was listed as a medical emergency
Mike White
11:52
Don't know anything about it.

Explain what seeds the WPIAL will use the playback method to determine PIAA seeds.
Mike White
11:55
Not totally sure what your question is. Maybe this is what you're looking for: In play-back games, WPIAL will use the seed of the team from the WPIAL playoffs. For example, let's say the four quarterfinal losers from a classification have to play off for PIAA spots. Say the No. 5, 6, 9 and 10 seeds are the quarterfinal losers. The No. 5 seed will play the No. 10 seed in one play-back game, and the No. 6 will play the No. 9 in another. The winners will then play for seeds 5 and 6. The losers will play for PIAA seed No. 7. Got it?

Did you catch the South Fayette /Seton game last night? After watching spratt get totally shut down, what do you think of seton's chances? He only had five the entire game.
Mike White
11:57
I did not and not sure what happened. Hey, South Fayette is pretty good. I still think Seton is a team to watch in 3A.

i disagree with 90% of the bs u say not going to lie. I swear you flip a coin for a decision and start writing
Mike White
11:57
Dang, you figured me out.
Awful
11:57
Have you in your many many years of HS sports reporting heard of a case like Elizabeth Forward faces anywhere in the country ? Pretty awful
Mike White
11:58
No, I haven't.
Rebel Pride

No athlete of the week curse- Spratt twisted ankle early - didn't play much - precaution for playoffs
Mike White
11:58
Well there you go. Thanks for the news.
