First off, it's Sheely. And he has a shoulder injury. But he played some last night. I think Lebo will need him to beat Imani.

That Trey Schactner kid was great in that city league championship game. Couldn't have won without him. GreenBay got a good one!!! Fab 5 for sure
Mike White
11:48
Woooo hoooo. Hilarious. Get you to the Improv.

How good is Woody High ? Will they are give the Mighty Panthers any issue ?
Mike White
11:48
Steve Scorpion has done a tremendous job with them the last half of season. Scoop is something else. But season will end Thursday.

Which section in 6A boys do you think is stronger?
Mike White
11:49
Definitely the Northern one, at least as far as having better teams from top to bottom. No question.

Who are the front runners for fab 5 boys?  Lots of great players this year many hit 1k or even 2k points!  Playoff success play a factor?
Mike White
11:50
Hitting 1,000 and 2,000 points plays no factor. If we picked on points, we would just pick the five leading scorers.

Char-Houston's section stinks. Jefferson Morgan (the #2 seed in CH section) lost to the 21 seed Springdale Dynamos by 10 (great name by the way). Cmon now. There are 2 good sections in 2A(Section 4 and Section 1), Northgate and sewickley (Disgraceful way to build a program), and then a bunch of eh.
Mike White
11:51
Amen.

What has happened to some of the best traditional WPIAL programs?  Beaver Falls, Sto Rox, Wash High and LP all had terrible seasons.
Mike White
11:53
Beaver Falls is the real head-scratcher. And this came after Beaver Falls football didn't win a game. Hard to figure. Lincoln Park played a bunch of freshmen. They will get better. But it is something how some great programs have fallen so far.
True of False
11:53
Is it true that the winner of 6a gets the Gulf of Mexico named after them ? "Gulf of Upper St Clair". Its wordy but I like it
Mike White
11:54
Yes, that is true. And if Upper St. Clair wins it, the Mon River will be named the USC River. And if USC wins it, the WPIAL has a deal where he is named the new coach of the Lakers. "Doncic and Danny." What a show.

Who hires coaches for private/ charter schools and Catholic schools?
Mike White
11:54
The schools.
Curious
11:55
Mike, I find it very interesting that Baldwin, Peters, and South Fay. all end up opposite Montour, Char. Valley, and Moon...  If I'm from that power section of Montour, I am not happy!  Were representatives from Peters and South Fay. on the committee???  And I'm pretty sure the head guy used to be Baldwin AD... Very interesting. How in the world does South Fay. with 7 losses get a home game over Latrobe with 4 losses? I predict Mars advances tonight.  What say you?
Mike White
12:00
Well Curious, I would say this: I have absolutely no problem with the order of the top 6 seeds in 5A. You certainly have a point with South Fayette. But they do have one really quality win over Baldwin. Kiski Area won a section and got a No. 8 seed. And South Fayette got seeded higher than Mars, even though Mars beat South Fayette in a January game. I think you could've put Kiski Area No. 7, Latrobe No. 8, South Fayette No. 9 and Mars No. 10.

The "Brad T" argument, one option is moving all private teams to 6A.  Why should Woodland Hills, Butler, Norwin and other public 6A schools be subjected to playing with the private schools?  I understand the thought process of moving the private schools to the highest classification.  But, is it fair to move the privates to 6A?  I say it is not.  Public 6A schools would be just as affected by the privates playing in their classification just as A, AA, etc.  The true solution is separation of public and private, which is highly unlikely to take place.  This can of worms was opened over fifty years ago - the lid of the can has been thrown away, likely to never be found again.

All good points 40stripes.

Mike, after watching Beaver at Avonworth on TV, sign me up for the rematch in the finals. Carmichael v Mayo is a dream matchup. Mayo deserves more hype. You signing up for that rematch?
Mike White
12:02
Would be a good one. But 4A is really good bracket. Lots of good matchups. But if Carmichael doesn't foul out against Bever, you would've likely saw a game with two 40-point scorers. Doesn't happen often.

Hey mike.  There was some above chat regarding the WPIAL process for announcing brackets on Monday afternoon and games Monday night.  Do you remember the Pairings Meeting at the Greentree Marriott?  All the coaches together.  it was a great event.  Any idea what happened and why not continued?
Mike White
12:04
I hated those meetings. Total chaos. Some guys half drunk. So many people walking around like they're Rick Pitino. No need to bring all those people in any more, with the way technology is today. I don't miss those meetings one bit. Plus, they would be on Tuesday night. It's good to put playoff pairings out Monday afternoon.

It's ridiculous that Schachter from dice is even posted on this site.  He's not even one of the best players on his team.  Why is he discussed every week here????
Mike White
12:05
No idea.

I see note on Fab 5 boys .. .I like Robbins, Sledge, Wallace, Sow, Carmichael, Pratt ... Ooops.  That's 6.  I think all contenders depending on playoffs.  Who did i miss ?
Mike White
12:06
That seems pretty accurate. But there are a few others to keep an eye on.

Salvino retiring....who are the 3 longest tenured hoop and football coaches in Wpial now?  Seems like not many last too too long.
Mike White
12:09
I think Danny Holzer at USC is now longest tenured at same school. In football, Mapletown's George Messich is longest tenured at one school and TJ's Bill Cherpak second. And you are right ol' Bucky, coaches don't stick around long any more at one place. For a number of reasons.
12:13
Well, that does it. Time to see if I can find some leftovers in fridge. We'll do this again next Tuesday at 11 a.m. Thanks, everyone.
