Yes, Kash. Rumor has it that Upper St. Clair will have a prayer before the game and call on the spirit of former WPIAL czar Ace Heberling to visit the locker room. If not Ace, they are asking the spirit of General George Patton to visit. New Castle will light candles and call for the spirit of Lindy Lauro to enter the room.

Nice playoff run by Hampton. Are you surprised? P.S. Thomas Jefferson beat Hampton in the 1988 WPIAL semifinals.
Mike White
11:41
Yes and no. Coach Joe Cangilla got them better as year went on. They're pretty decent. Plus, they got a pretty good draw. Peters Township good, but not great. Then when Ringgold upset Lincoln Park, Hampton got Ringgod. Decent team, but not great.

Switching topics - Bob Palko coming back to WestA football. How do they look for the next few years? Do you think there will be any hard feelings, or will winning solve everything?
Mike White
11:43
Hard feelings about what? Leaving before. He thought it was the right think to do. Just saw coach Bob Palko last night. They've already started 5:30 a.m. workouts three days a week. That's Bob Palko. "I told the kids, they better buckle up." Yes, there is some talent there. Bob admits it. But said it doesn't look like much depth. But he had 70 kids come to his first meeting.

Say you sitting next to Coach Everhart broadcasting last night’s game. Got me thinking, any  station ever approach you about doing color for games? Maybe your PG responsibilities would preclude it but you’re great on football at Acrisure games. Basketball? With your knowledge of the game, players, historical factoids, sense of humor, be tremendous.
Mike White
11:46
Why thank you, Mr. Ed. You're quite the horse, but why the long face? Woooo hooooo. As for TV color commentary for basketball, I did championship games for years with FSN and KBL. Number of years with Stan Savran. I did the unforgettable game with Beaver Falls and Aliquippa and the Lance Jeter Shot in 2005. Not becasue of me, but that telecast won a local Emmy. I enjoy the TV commentary, but haven't done any in recent years, ever since FSN or Root Sports got out of it. I still do a football final or two. Plus, I will do color commentary for a game or two on KDKA radio this weekend.

Is it true that Beaver Falls filed an appeal and won to go back to 2A Football classification because of an apparent mis-calculation on numbers? If so, wouldn't that be possible in more scenarios and schools?
Mike White
11:47
I think that is true. Yes, it happens. It does make you wonder, but it does happen.

Did they turn people away last night at NA? How many does Peter's hold for tonight's Moon\CV?
Mike White
11:48
I don't think they turned anyone at NA last night, at least not from what I heard. They had people standing. Atmosphere is great. Peters they say has capacity for 2,300 and standing room for 750. I think that will be enough.

Are you going to be doing any new videos on the post gazette WPIAL page with Keith?
Mike White
11:48
We'll post new one tomorrow previewing the championships.
Phil

What game will you be covering this evening?
Mike White
11:48
None this evening.
Sully

Sewickly seems unbeatable. Can the proud Jayhawks do it?
Mike White
11:50
It will take a monumental effort by Jeannette because of Sewickley's size. But those Hawks are some tough dudes. Will be interesting.

Any consolation games interest you?
Mike White
11:56
Well Hopewell's James Armstrong scored 47 in a consolation game last night. Certainly caught my eye. We have a question at Post-Gazette. Should stats from those consolation games count toward records for WPIAL playoff games. I mean those 47 points would be among the best in WPIAL playoff history. But it is a consolation game. No chance to win a championship. It is for placing in PIAA bracket? I go back and forth. What do you think?
QuipNation
11:58
Why shouldn't it? It's a higher level game than most regular season games.
Mike White
11:59
But is it really a WPIAL playoff game? As I said, I see both sides to it. It's really just games for PIAA seeding. The teams no longer are in the playoffs with a chance to win championship. But it is still I guess technically I guess part of the WPIAL tournament.
12:00
Honestly, since myself and Post-Gazette are the ones who keep the WPIAL individual playoff records, whatever we say will go. So there (ha ha).
12:01
Well that's about it for now. Some leftover macaroni and cheese awaiting. Should be a fun few days coming up. We'll talk about the title games in next Tuesday's chat.
