Good morning. Long couple weeks of WPIAL playoff games just about every night. But it's a great time. Best time of the high school sports year. Few days to recover and onto states. Let's get started.

I know we are beating a dead horse here Mike, but how awful was it to watch Mt Lebo hold onto the ball for minutes on end? Seems like the easy way out, can we please get a shot clock!!
Mike White
11:03
How can you blame them? Butler was in a zone, they had the lead. You can't fault Mt. Lebanon for that. Butler is not a very good man-to-man team. In my eyes, good coaching by Joe David. Sure, a shot clock would be nice. Some states have it. But I don't see it coming to Pa. in the near future.

Mike, do you know about the 7 on 7 football tournaments for high school kids and if so, what is your opinion on them as far as development?  Thanks.
Mike White
11:05
You mean kids playing football in their underwear? Most overrated thing going. But some kids seem to like it.

What do you think about the lack of adjustments for Serra in the Serra/OLSH game?
Mike White
11:06
Adjustments, adjustments, adjustments. How about OLSH is just better than Serra. Face it.
11:07
Miller had one threepeat. McConnell none. Yes Ralph is first to have two threepeats. Wonderful feat. Ralph is one of the best coaches ever but not because of threepeats.

Do you what other coaches have 2 different 3 peats like Ralph Blundo has? Wondered if maybe Miller or McConnell had done it.
Mike White
11:07
I just answered this above.

Norwin vs. Altoona at Hollidaysburg,  and Penn Hills vs. Hollidaysburg at Altoona?   Who did the District 6 pay off in the PIAA to get those "neutral" sites?
Mike White
11:09
Don't complain. A number of WPIAL teams are playing in back yards against teams from Harrisburg. Some teams from Hershey are playing in back yards against teams from WPIAL. It's the way it is. Crazy. PIAA put District 3 (Harrisburg area) in some western brackets this year. In day and age of high school athletic departments trying to hold down costs, travel costs are even more with these brackets. But the east has some power and complains. PIAA listens.

Mike was at a gathering with some friends talking about the 87 North Hills Football team. We are gettinh old, none more than you my man. Can you name atleast 5 defensive players that on to played in college from that squad?
Mike White
11:10
It's all in the mind. I'll never be old. Just older. Ha ha.
11:11
TO answer your question. Renkey to Penn State, Cisar to Penn State, Gorajewski was on defense and played OL at Pitt. Pat Carey was DB at James Madison. Kagle went to James Madison. A lineman, I believe Mark Jones who wasn't a senior, I think went to Tulsa. Is that good enough?

Saw that Patten kid in the 6A game and he was impressive, does he have any looks or do you think he has a chance?
Mike White
11:12
Only a junior. Nice player. Not cutting him down. A key for Butler. But certainly not Division I.

Any chance Ethan Morton goes to Pitt ?
Mike White
11:12
Sure there's a chance. He hasn't narrowed down list at all. But Pitt would have to beat some good Big 10 programs that I know Ethan likes.

The 4th quarter clutch shooting between Mars' Andrew Recchia and Moon's Austin Ryan in the 5A game was classic!  Congrats to Mars but what a shame someone had to lose.  Do you think Moon can recover from such a loss?
Mike White
11:15
No, Moon should just hand in the uniforms. Give up. Season over. Of course they can recover. Teams do it all the time. But looking at their bracket, they might be doing a lot of traveling if they win.

PT girls chances in states?  They have no depth.  WPIAL final they relied to heavy on MM.
Mike White
11:17
Well why wouldn't you rely heavily on Makenna Marisa? She's only the best player around and has been terrific. She made some turnovers and North Allegheny did a good job on her, but Peters sent it to OT with a basket by a girl who is a lacrosse player and didn't even play basketball the past two years. So someone other than Marisa stepped up. They have other girls also. Mills. Journey Thompson is a freshman who could be a future star. Those girls have come through in games this year also. But Makenna is good and is point guard. So she is going to control the game and have the ball a lot.

Pretty great weekend of games huh? Pretty much all were competitive and fun to watch
Mike White
11:18
Excellent weekend. Very entertaining. And lot of other people watched. Over 18,000 over three days. Not bad.

Mike, Which WPIAL Championship game was your favorite? Who all has a chance at going to Hershey?
Mike White
11:19
How could you not go with Mars vs. Moon? Drama. Two good teams. And the way it ended made it an instant classic. Andrew Recchia name will be remembered for a long time. Best chance making it to Hershey is probably 2A boys.
Darren
11:19
Another dead horse here. Why can't there be play in games for States? It's almost better to be a 7th or 8th seed.
Mike White
11:20
We've gone over this before on this chat. I agree. Would be nice. WPIAL did it for two years. League says it is hard to do with six classes. Not enough days to do it they claim. Some coaches wrote a letter to WPIAL this year asking for play in games. Board of directors said they will consider it starting in 2021.
WPIAL Teams
11:20
In any class, which teams from the WPIAL (boys or girls) do you think can make a run at winning states?
Mike White
11:21
Won't be easy for any boys teams. 2A boys might have best chance. District 3 is now in West in some classes. That will make it harder. A 6A girls team has a shot. We usually have 3 or maybe 4 girls teams make it.

Mike, great 3 days at the Pete for the WPIAL Finals!  I tend to follow the girls side and enjoy seeing the smaller schools get some shine on the big stage.  Any thoughts on the young Rochester team that knocked off the favorite West Greene in 1A?
Mike White
11:22
Freshman, sophomore and junior all good for Rochester. Big advantage with Jasmine Mack "truck" on inside for Rochester. WIll be really next year.
Walter White
11:22
Mike - what WPIAL boys teams do you expect to advance to Hershey?
Mike White
11:24
It will be hard for any of them, as I've said a few times already. Still think 2A boys might have best shot. Not to win but just to get there. Maybe 5A also. I didn't say to win it. I said to get there.

The piaa needs to change state tournament locations. There shouldn’t be district home games
Mike White
11:26
Why not? But I just wish there would be true East-West brackets again. Not going to happen though. More teams in East in many classes.
BBall Man
11:26
If you had to pick one team from WPIAL to win PIAA this year which would it be?
Mike White
11:26
Either Peters or NA girls.
