Donnybrook I remember was in the 1984 3A Quarterfinals. Sto-Rox vs. Aliquippa at Ambridge. Game ended prematurely with Sto-Rox awarded a 52-51 victory. Stands on both sides of the gym simultaneously swarmed onto the court. People jumped over tables. Those schools had been having problems when they were in the same section about 10 years earlier. Took much longer to restore order than the Meadville incident. That said, Meadville PD appeared to handle the situation well.

You are right Old Guy. There is an old story on that game that I read. I was not there. But story says fans from both teams came on the court. Fight occurred with 21 seconds left. But the game was not stopped. It was finished. But I need to mention that back then there was no PIAA bench rule where players were ejected for leaving the bench area. There was no PIAA rule about punching either. If you throw a punch now, you are automatically ejected. So back then, there were enough players to finish the game. Story says only two technicals were given. But great memory "Old Guy."
Dist12?????

Hi Mike,  How is it determined that in the 6A Boys bracket that the 3rd place district 12 team is placed in the bottom of the bracket?  I am sure that USC and other schools in the bottom of the bracket are not too thrilled to see Roman Catholic there.  Also, why does the PIAA want the possibility of a state championship with two teams from the same district?  thanks

The PIAA does not seed teams for playoffs. Brackets are pre-determined. Roman got No. 3 seed because of what they did in playoffs. It was not an opinion. I'll try to explain why eastern teams play through west in some classifications. Take 6A, for example. There aren't all that many 6A teams in the west. Many, many more in the east. The number of qualifiers from a district is based on the number of teams in that district's classification. To make a 16-team bracket for 6A on the "west," the PIAA moved some eastern teams to the western side of the bracket. Got it?

How ‘bout the Camp Hill-StoRox fight in state championship game which pretty much had Sfsm DiMichrle playing Camp Hill by himself after all the ejections. I recall that pretty much both benches emptied which should have had everyone ejected but Cashman decided to allow some players play so that a state final wouldn’t have to be stopped.

Yep, I was there courtside. It was 2003. Game was chippy. Fight started when John "Rocky" Geiger was taking ball out in front of Trinity bench. He claimed a Trinity player grabbed his groin. So Rocky turned around and landed a couple punches to the Trinity player. Then the fight started. A few fans came on the court. Not many. I remember Adam DiMichele was attacked by, like, three Trinity players. Yes, benches emptied. But I don't think the bench rule was in effect back then.
5A Hoops Guy

Sorry Mike.... been watching plenty of hoops so please don't assume you know more with silly responses like go back to bed.  It is time people like you wake up and use this forum to drive change. Point is officiating and parent behavior is not good or consistent and the people controlling the game (refs) have to do better.  If not it ends up like AAU stuff.  As you stated this was very serious; I would agree, and we have to take a hard look at everyone involved to make sure it is better.  Top down approach.

But they are using the best officials they have available. You could bring in NBA officials for a game and there will still be idiots complaining about the officials. Please. This isn't an officials problem. Why do you think there are fewer officials? One of the main reasons is abuse from fans. So don't give me it's officials causing this stuff.
12:06
OK, that's it for today, ladies and gentlemen. Let's hope the rest of the playoffs go off with some good fan behavior - and hope those stinkin officials don't cause any more brawls among fans. But this was good stuff. We'll do it again at 11 next Tuesday.
