They moved up because of enrollment. But they also would've had to move up because of competitive balance rule (competition classification formula).

Lincoln Park 2014 or Lincoln Park 2024 - who ya got?
Mike White
11:38
Oh man, another good one. This year's team had best guard tandem in a long time. 2014 team had size and good sophomore guard in Maverick Rowan. Dang. I'd have trouble answering this one. You know what? I think I'll got 2014 team.

In 4A football WPIAL enters PIAA a week sooner. So fewer teams make the playoffs?
Mike White
11:42
Good question. I don't know what WPIAL will do. 4A has to be done a week earlier than this year. There are 17 teams in 4A football next year. Can only have three weeks of playoffs. So that means eight teams. Honestly, I don't know what WPIAL will do. I had contended in situations like this, end regular season week earlier for that class. But that won't happen. Playoff format will be out in April.

You think USC repeats ? They still got a lotta talent
Mike White
11:43
We talking boys basketball. USC will definitely be No. 1 heading into next season.

Looks like 4A will look alot different next year.  Im thinking Knoch, Avonworth, Beaver, North Catholic and Belle Vernon as the front runners, your thoughts

Sounds right.

Mike, the other states who have shot clocks, is it for boys and girls both? Watching the best girls teams play such methodical styles over the weekend, do you think the shot clock would make a better or worse brand of girls ball here? I mean speeding the games up sounds like no brainer, but are  skills and athleticism such up and down the WPIAL that it could also make games sloppier and even more one sided than now when good plays bad?
Mike White
11:45
That is a thought. Might make games sloppier. But might force teams to simply get a shot quicker and force players to develop their offensive games more. I'm all for the shot clock and so are most coaches. It would be for girls, too.

If you were magically put in charge of the PIAA, would you go back to 4 classes?
Mike White
11:47
Tough call. People complain about six classes. It has definitely watered things down. But people forget it also has allowed some teams to enjoy success they wouldn't have had with four classes. That's a fact. If I were in charge of PIAA, first thing I would do is address the public vs. private/Catholic/charter issue.

Wouldn't a Catholic/Charter league like the Philly league improve Pittsburgh basketball? Would have matchups like Imani vs Lincoln Park, Central vs North Catholic  every night. Maybe kids stick around instead of going to out of state Prep Schools.

I can tell you many schools would like to see it in basketball. But PIAA will go back to that 1970s law that is very gray. But that doesn't mean WPIAL can't separate, and maybe just for regular season right now. I know some coaches are calling for it. But will WPIAL board actually do that? I seriously doubt it.

Been two years now of PG strike. I know you have contributors like Keith Barnes but congrats again Mike on outstanding coverage of another sports season. Other than slimmed down Thursday Varsity Extra and no podcast, things haven’t missed a beat. Thanks for your efforts.

What thank you, Horse, er, Mister Ed. A number of other people deserve shoutouts for coverage also. We're doing what we can. Thanks, again.

OK, that's it for today. Time to have lunch with that leftover terrific chicken tomato and dumplings soup by the wonderful Mrs. White. Everyone, be good.
