Hi Mike - what is the latest on Butler's appeal of the PIAA playoff ban?
Mike White
11:45
Not sure. Last I heard I think they were trying to take it to court. But I haven't heard anything else so far.
11:48
By the way, first Friday: Top games in WPIAL Friday: Penn Hills at Seneca ... Mt. Lebanon at Gateway ... North Catholic at Serra. But how about at this event in Chambersburg? Bishop Canevin, No. 2-ranked in Class 1A state rankings, plays No. 1 Steelton-Highspire. ... And Thomas Jefferson plays in an event Sunday in Ocean City, N.J., not far from ocean. Will play Millville, defending state champ. Some interesting stuff for first weekend.

Another boring season for TJ, walk into the 4A semi finals before facing a test?   On another note, will local golfers consider Duquesne U once their golf program starts up?  Any idea where their home course would be?  Thanks.

Yes, I think TJ wins conference again, but don't count out McKeesport. They could make some noise. TJ still plays Belle Vernon also, but it's non conference. And yes, BV dropped to 3A, but how about the non-conference schedule the WPIAL gave BV. They play Laurel Highlands, McKeesport, Penn-Trafford and McKeesport.

Good Morning Mike, Thanks for the chats, always full of good info and knowledge.  I thought I heard somewhere that Fedko is going to be back doing something for Friday nights games.  Any chance you guys may team up to do some type of show?
Mike White
11:53
Fedko is back, but not on Friday nights. KDKA has really gotten into high school sports more past few years and will have hour-long pregame show on Friday nights before their game of the week. Fedko will host that pregame show. And yes, I will do a segment each week on that show. I think it's great KDKA got him back. Maybe he annoyed some, but his Friday Night Lights and Fedko Zone highlights, and commentary were big hits with high school fans -- and even the players.

Which fanbase whines the most ?
Mike White
11:54
There's a line for that. Swimming parents love to complain, but so do basketball and football, too. In fact, they all complain. Gosh darn it, nobody ever gets any coverage.
Rooter

Mike, what do you think impact of NIL will be on WPIAL?  Will we see Royce Parham doing ads for Wheelfish anytime soon?
Mike White
11:58
First off, NIL for PIAA has to pass two more readings. I think it will have minimal effect in WPIAL. As for Royce, he would love to do something with Chick fil-A I'm sure. Loves the place. And he should do PR for Oklahoma Thunder. No idea why, but he loves Thunder - and his favorite player of all time Josh Giddey. No idea why. Me? I think he's perfect for "Rolls Royce" NIL. Think of it, "Hi, I'm Royce, and here for Rolls Royce."

It seems like the talent level is up in The City this year.  Do you see any of the other teams making a run like Westinghouse did in 2021?  And why do those teams seem to have at least a couple fewer games than their WPIAL neighbors?  Does it have to do with where their teams enter the PIAA bracket relative to other districts?

Few FBS players on Brashear - Ta'Mere Robinson to Penn State and Kam Cheatom to Akron. But Robinson probably won't play this year because of still recovering from torn ACL. Overall, I don't know if it's that much better. Just a couple high profile players going to FBS schools. As for PIAA playoffs, yes City teams have to go into PIAA sub-regional. But because there are only five City teams, they have to get games outside the City, and that's not always easy. Westinghouse won two PIAA sub-regional games last year. With a number of starters back, I think the 'House could win two sub-regional games again in Class 2A. Here's to hoping they could even get to the quarterfinals. I think it's good for district football when the City has a team that goes far. Doesn't happen often. One of the most memorable games I ever covered in my life was when Perry beat Berwick to win the 1989 state championship - and Pepsi ran, like, 102 yards with INT on last play of game.

And that's the last question to answer this week. Good start to the season. I'll have to check the film to see what questions need improvement. Ha ha. See y'all next week. 11 a.m. Tuesday.
