I agree WPIAL Lifer. I think Class 1A this year is much better than it has been in recent years. But I need to point out something. With Westinghouse dropping to 1A, many people are talking about how great it coule possibly be for Westinghouse to play the WPIAL 1A champ in the semifinals. Sorry, it can't happen. The way the PIAA 1A playoffs are set up, the City League team (Westinghouse) plays through the eastern side of the PIAA bracket. WPIAL champ in 1A plays in the semifinals against the winner of quarterfinal game between District 9 and District 10 champ. Westinghouse and WPIAL champ can only meet in the state championship in 1A. If that happens, can we just get the moved to North Allegheny?

speaking of gateway.  What happened to the QB birch had Oregon and Akron offers early.  Where did he end up for college?

I'm not going to say anything about that Oregon offer. Let's just leave it at that. But don't quote me, but right off the top of my head I seem to remember Gateway coach Don Holl telling me in the spring that Birch was going to go to a junior college? For some reason, Lackawanna sticks in my mind. That's just an answer right off the top of my head. I will try to check into it and let you know on next week's chat.
