Who wins Aliquippa-Avonworth Friday?
Mike White
11:34
Should be good one. I'm going with Avonworth.
Baldwin
11:34
Rumors Baldwin could be contemplating going independent in the next class cycle. Have you heard anything in that realm? Also, have you heard anything on any of the independents returning to the WPIAL?
Mike White
11:35
Not saying it's not true with Baldwin, but I haven't heard that. That would be a shocker. Butler was talking about possibly returning to WPIAL, but not sure of that.

Figured you would appreciate this story. Talked with a woman from Australia on Saturday who was in town for work. Her boss took her the the PR-PCC game and she was blown away by the whole spectacle of it. The violence (she was stunned), the bands, all of it. She said they have nothing like that in Australia, particularly at the HS level. She found it interesting how every little town has a team and how its a big event in this place. I dunno. Thought you'd like that story

Thanks. Yes, high school football is still big. Over the years, I always went to one of the biggest games every week. They usually were close to filled or filled, especially in classes 4-6. Now, attendance at playoff games is a different story. I don't know why, but people don't seem to go to playoff games much any more. Plus, I think the drop in football participation at many places bottomed out in recent years. Some even have more places. Yes, some small schools still hurt with roster size. But I think high school football is still alive and well in Western Pa.

Mike, I just want to give a piece of advice to all of the parents out there.  Be happy with what your son's measurables and abilities.
Mike White
11:42
Good advice, Dad. Sure, you can try to help him get more muscle, weight or faster, or improve. That should be the goal of athletes.

How soon before we have Pickleball as a sanctioned PIAA sport ?
Mike White
11:48
I'm hearing sanctioned within two years. This might be jarring to you, but a birdie also told me that the Pittsburgh radio station "The Pickle" is bidding for rights to broadcast all games. Supposedly Matt Dillon will run the league and games will be played at Aliquippa's Heinz Field. But Pickleball officials have a ways to go to try and get sport sanctioned. They're playing Ketch-up a little bit ...... Woooooo hoooooo. I'll be here all week. Tip your waitresses. Try the pickles.

Anyone notice what former Central Catholic LBer Cole Sullivan did for Michigan in Saturday's game. Five tackles, one sack, one INT. That's pretty Cole.
11:51
Just FYI. WPIAL has hearing today with basketball standout Josh Pratt. League will determine if he will get a waiver that will allow him to play in postseason after transferring from Aliquippa. Already eligible for regular season. If he's eligible for postseason, that will certainly change the balance of power some in that class. Pratt was Fab 5 pick last year.
PIAA

Has the PIAA ever considered 8-Man football to help out some of the smaller schools? Many other states have 8 or 9 man football.

I wrote a column on it a few years ago. PIAA was open to it at the time, but it seems to have gone nowhere. There was a small league in eastern Pa. Don't know if still exists. Here's story: https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/high-school-football/2018/10/04/Ei...

Just to finish up my prior post.  I agree with you.  Help your kid improve but enough of the high pressure.

My son went to Westminster, had a wonderful career, got his degree and has a fantastic job and is doing well.  I couldn't be prouder.

Nice.

And that wraps up another edition of the wildly popular high school sports live chat. See you next Tuesday at 11 a.m. There is a leftover turkey burker from yesterday's cookout calling my name. Everyone, be good.
