5A isn't as good as last year. You may not notice it because everything is relative. But no way there is the depth of quality teams in 5A this year that existed last year. And I am not predicting a Moon vs. Pine final, so I'm not going to touch that one. OK, goat? That was a baaaaaaad question.

When will new classifications for next 2 year cycle be released? Do you see any teams moving up or down?

Schools have to send in info to PIAA by October. Probably won't be released until late November or early December. Schools then will have short period of time to decide whether they want to play "up." And heck yeah, some teams will move up and some will move down. But no one can predict who they will be.

Mike Evans has done a good job at Canon Mac...usually a .500 team that makes the playoffs.  But it could be a very long time before C Mac beats the likes of Central or NA in the playoffs.  The PIHL, the hockey side of high school sports in PA, classifies each school based on their four year Win/Loss record, number of goals scored, among other statistics over that 4 year period.  Do you ever see the WPIAL or PIAA going to a "success based" formula?  Or will they stick with enrollment for the for seeable future?  I have a tough time seeing Butler come back and compete in 6A or a school like Canon Mac winning a WPIAL championship.

Mike Evans has done a very good job at Canon-Mac. There are a lot of good coaches in WPIAL. Just because they don't win titles doesn't mean they are good. Having the 'playaz' does mean something. I know what hockey does. That's not a bad idea. But I have not heard any push from WPIAL or PIAA to do that. But maybe they should consider something.

When is the WPIAL going to get their head out of you know where? You say the season is half over and 5A still hasn't played a section game yet, and wont for 2 more weeks. This is a joke. 5 games before they even get to the section. The players a beat up and injured before it even starts. And those games mean absolutely nothing. Enough with the travel reasons. Why not two sections with 9 teams?

Well 5A junkie, let me put something in your head: A lot of coaches like this setup. They don't mind playing 5 games and then conference games. No matter what you do someone will complain. Before, some teams didn't like conference games so early, and a non conference game in the middle of the season. Now you don't like all the conference games at the back end of the schedule. Let me get you some tissues.

They're trying different things. But here's the best idea to get more officials: Put a muzzle on parents at games - OF ALL SPORTS - AT ALL LEVELS.

You saw Sto Rox this week. As good as advertised in person? I think Laurel, Serra, maybe Wash High are serious competition for them. Laurel impressive against BF. Strong line, great running back. Serra has playmakers.

Yes, impressive win by Laurel against Beaver Falls. Sto-Rox is good. Haven't seen Serra, but I hear they are pretty good, too. Washington always competitive. Sto-Rox certainly doesn't have clear path to title.

Do this. Go on statistics site. Click on scoring leaders. Then go click on the "FG" column. That will put the field goal leaders in order. Got it? My computers live chat starts at 1 if you want to get into that.

Quick basketball question, do you think the freshman at North Hills, Parham, is a lock for Penn State given his pedigree?  Can he play in the Big 10?

First off, Royce Parham is now a sophomore.  A really good sophomore. 6-6. And more D-1 schools are starting to show interest. If he grows to 6-8 or 6-9, which I think he will, I think he's Power 5. But no, he is no lock for Penn State. I think you're saying that just because his mom (Kim) played there and is still all-time blocked shots leader there. I say he is not a lock for Penn State, because they have shown no interest yet.
