With Hayes committing to PSU and continuing trend of heavier recruited WPIAL players leaving the area to play college football. Why do you think these top WPIAL players tend to not choose Pitt and stay at home?
Mike White
11:47
I'm not sure. I do know that if they don't go to Pitt or Penn State, many times it doesn't work out. Just look at the kids who have come back to Pitt - like Derrick Davis (LSU) and Donovan McMillon (Florida). There isn't enough top end talent in Western Pa. any more for Pitt to survive on it. But they haven't been able to keep a lot of it at home lately. Of course, go back decades ago. It's never been a case where all of the best players stay at home and go to Pitt. This isn't new. But you know what? Places like Penn State and Notre Dame have pretty good programs, ya know? Places like that can be enticing to a kid, but so can maybe staying at home. It would be nice if Pitt could get more of the Western Pa. kids but there aren't that many high-end ones any more.

Mike - Was having a conversation with a friend recently about how strong the 2010 Parkway Conference was. Did you make it to any of those games that year? Montour, West A, Hopewell all really strong and then first year CV emerges as the WPIAL Champion. Just a great year of HS football to look back on.
Mike White
11:49
Some really good teams caused a lot of traffic in the Parkway (awwww yeah, you like that one)? Great year. Central Valley wins title in first year of school beat fellow Parkway team Montour in final. Can you say, Robert Foster? Parkway had some great days.

Mike White

For a Steeler game maybe.

Won some money in Vegas. Looking to bet on the USC-Lebo game. Who you got ?
Mike White
11:50
I'll take Lebo to win, but not by a ton.

Who, in your mind, is the best 3A team right now?
Mike White
11:50
Still Belle Vernon. Avonworth next. Avonworth is very good I think.

Who is your top dual basketball/football player this year with Rodney graduated?
Mike White
11:52
Good question. Have to think. Might be Butler's Braylon Littlejohn. Committed to Miami (Ohio) for football and is one of best senior guards in WPIAL hoops.

Mike, could WPIAL independents like Butler and Brownsville join the City League (District 8) for football. Afterall, City teams joined WPIAL in soccer and baseball. It would give City more teams and it would be competitive. Before you laugh, Pittsburgh is closer to Butler than Erie.
Mike White
11:53
Ahhh, it takes two to tango and I don't think Butler or Brownsville has any interest in joining City League for football.

You really do get some real crazies here!!!!
Mike White
11:54
Not surprising. I've learned. They're everywhere in this world, unfortunately. I still like the chat.

Millions ? Maybe 25. Tops
Mike White
11:56
What's this referring to - NIL? If you don't think some top basketball or football guys are being told they can make a million on NIL, you need a dose of reality.

What has happened to the once proud Hopewell football and basketball programs?  15 years of suck.  What's the problem?
Mike White
11:57
This is like some others we've discussed on this chat. Like New Castle football.  It's hard to figure but Hopewell is indeed another one that has taken a big drop.

Ya, some of these questions are amusing, especially about a HS team scheduling a small college. But I will say this: 1987 North Hills would've fared very well vs. most D3 schools in the region. Could probably make similar case with Pine-Richland's state title team (Jurkovec) and maybe, maybe even Jeannette's (w/Pryor).
Mike White
12:00
C'mon, man. Maybe a horrible, horrible D3 school. But certainly not most D3 schools. Don't people realize that many of the D3 players, even though they aren't D-2 or D-1, were usually stars on their high school football teams, but maybe were too small or lacked something to be recruited. I haven't seen a Division III football game in a long time. But I've seen some decent Division III hoop teams. They're flat out better than high school teams.

Hi Mike. Trav and I are looking to attend a game this Friday night. Which one should we go to ?
Mike White
12:01
Oh man, I have no suggestion. As good as last week was with three games involving 1 vs. 2 ranked teams is as bad as this week is. Bunch of not-so-good games Friday. Best games might be Saturday. Afternoon Woodland Hills at Shaler and at night Fort Cherry at Bishop Canevin.

Best special night at Coaches...wing night or burger night?
Mike White
12:02
Wing night is best - ANYWHERE. And if Johnny Lee is there, it's even better.

Do you think NA vs CC will be different if they play again.  It was a competitive game for 1.5 quarters or so, but NA turnovers were a killer.  I don't know if they can keep pace with CC scoring, tho.  CC's ability to run the ball on them is concerning for NA.
Mike White
12:03
I agree. It was even until midway through the second. Turnovers killed NA. But Central is so good. Could it be closer the next time? Maybe. But I think to beat Central, a WPIAL team might need to score 35 points, and I don't know if that's going to happen.

Best Student section in the WPIAL?
Mike White
12:03
Can't name one.
Tony Heisman
12:03
What school has the best football & basketball head coaching duo?
Mike White
12:04
Hempfield.
Sundays
12:04
Of the crop of players you've seen in say the last 3 years. If you had a crystal ball who is most likely playing on Sundays ?
Mike White
12:05
I don't do that to a kid any more. Not fair to him. Puts undue pressure on him. I just don't like predicting future NFL for a kid.
12:06
OK, that's it for today. I think I blinked and the regular season is half over. Wow. I'm ready for the second half. And I think I might be ready for some more questions next week. See you at 11 a.m. next Tuesday. Everyone, be good.
