For sure. I think he'd do it.
Cupcake
11:35
Lebo beat a cupcake. How bad is Seneca Valley ?
Mike White
11:36
Seneca's offense seems to be OK. Can't stop anyone.
Mercy

I hear Lebo sent a letter to Central's AD asking for 4 minute quarters this week.
Mike White
11:38
I hear in order to make games more competitive, teams are asking Central to bring back a team Terry Totten played on in the 1970s, and have asked Dan Marino and Joe Carcia to suit up from the 1978 team.

I thought both Central Catholic and NA were underwhelming Friday.   I think it is a down year for both as far as talent at the skill positions and for NA, for the line as well.
Mike White
11:38
Not a great NA team. It's decent. Don't kid yourself. Central still has a ton of talent.

I think the Central Catholic qb will be a good one.  He already shows poise and puts the ball in safe places...low when in a crowd.  I wonder what his numbers would be like if he had the receivers they had 2 years ago.   They were 6'2, 6'5, and 6'5 and are now at Penn State, Michigan, and Duke...and I'm confident that 2 of the 3 were faster than any of their current receivers and quite possibly the Michigan kid as well.   They also don't have the home run hitting running back that they've had occasionally in the past....A Eugene Jarvis or a Jones Moore.   I do like Roman Thompson. He runs hard.
Mike White

Agree with everything. QB Owen Herrick is getting better. Three games I've seen, gets sacked a decent amount. And yes, no breakaway back. But Thompson is just a good "player." Penn State just offered.

The FC thing is complete BS.  They won’t ask for any breaks against their last 4 opponents!  Their AD has teed for years to “fix” their problem now he embarrassed the kids
Mike White
11:44
That's because they're playing Franklin Regional, Plum, Shaler and East Allegheny. They are 2-4. Might they have a chance to end up 4-6.

The PIAA has a completion formula where successful teams with transfers ( i.e. Aliquippa ) are moved up. Perhaps they need a formula where perennial unsuccessful teams can move down.
Mike White
11:45
That's an idea. Like I said, hockey does that. I don't think it's the worst idea.

Both teams struggled to get separation with their receivers.  NA was so conservative in their play calling.  They weren't playing not to lose, they were playing not to lose badly.  Im not sure what you learn from that.   Brinkley did make a few plays when they opened it up late.   He didn't bring out his inner Mack Leftwich, tho.  I know you don't like the comparison, but I suspect he has a bigger arm and is faster.   If he only had the Leftwich head for the game and poise. I hope that develops. I think he has some potential.  They don't have speed or size at wide out.  That doesn't help,.
Mike White
11:46
Again, Brinkley is no Leftwich. Bottom line is Central is just better.

everyone has complained about alliquippa and transfers for years.  How many has PR had in the last 2/3 years?  Doesn’t seem to be a comparable WPIAL school to that in the south east or west?  Years ago kids from the city found their way to WH and then Gateway.  But not Teasdale.  lol
Mike White
11:49
Do you mean Treesdale? Teasdale I think is in England where you go to have tea. Pine has certainly had its share of transfers past couple years. I can think of five right off top of my had and a few who make a big difference. I still say some people out there aren't real happy. Some. But under the competition formula, they would need to make it to the state championship game this year to be moved up. They have the minimum five transfers needed to be moved up. But they need 7 success points to be moved up. They have 3 for making the state semis last year. Making it to state final this year would give them 4 more.
Save Seneca
11:52
Just saw the fox chapel proposal for new conferences.  Its preposterous!  Roster sizes not enrollment?  Just go independent and quit trying to screw up everyone else.  We'd have to play USC Peters Pine on top of CC NA. And they want the lower tier to get playoff spots?  Insane.
Mike White
11:52
Don't disagree. And yes, independent might not be bad idea. They could have a league.
Hoops
11:53
Never too early for basketball talk.   Putting you on the spot- early predictions for WPIAL champs in boys and girls??
Mike White
11:54
New Castle No. 1 in 6A boys. Char Valley will be good in 5A boys. Too early for the rest.

I was at the TJ vs McKeesport game.  Spell came out after the first possession.   There was very little attention paid to him on the sideline.  Possibly that was their decision before the game...to pull him if the first series didn't go well.  There wasn't visibly much of a limp, but that is much different than having to plant and push off like a rb does.  It did make me wonder what was going on.    McKeesport has a nice team. They outplayed TJ upfront.   I think qb really holds them back...undersized, not a threat to run, and marginal as a passer.   I'm not sure what the deal is with TJ,..never seen a Cherp team so soft upfront.   They have a proven returning rb, but he just doesn't get much daylight.   The young qb will be a good one.
Mike White
11:55
Don't be surprised if TJ still ends up being pretty decent. Not great. But decent. I agree with you on a lot of points. I saw them against Avonworth. Didn't look good in any facet.

11:55
How do you think Fort Cherry matches up with Clairton?
Mike White
11:56
Would be a great game. Probably close like last year.
X
11:56
Outside of Clairton and Avonworth, what WPIAL school do you think has the best chance at a state title?
Mike White
11:57
No one else. Remember, there's still Fort Cherry in Class 1A. And Westinghouse from the City. As for the other classes, it won't be easy. Won't be easy for 1A or 3A, either. Remember, WPIAL didn't win any last year. I say they get 2 this year. Should throw a parade if they get three.
USC Panther
11:58
Our season is done for isn't it ? No recovering from this
Mike White
11:58
Yes, just hand in the equipment now and concentrate on basketball.

11:58
Luke Colella from NA is having a pretty good go of it..at Princeton and now Villanova.  It would make a for a good where are they now story.
Mike White
11:58
Well, you just let everyone know now. So I don't have to.
Easy Fix
11:59
Easy Fix?... let each WPIAL school choose what class they play in. Here's the Catch: if you choose to play down, you are not eligible for playoffs.
Mike White
11:59
Now that would be interesting. But what if, say, Baldwin said it wanted to play Class 1A?

12:01
Trent Fraley of Moon. Another good where are they now. Starting Center on North Dakota State
Mike White
12:02
Yes, he's turned out to have a really nice career there. Won a national title there last year.
12:04
