How impressive was the Fort Cherry win vs Canevin? Also, appears Matt Sieg got another offer from Nebraska.

Extremely impressive. And Matt Sieg was REALLY impressive. He has a chance to do some special things in his career at Fort Cherry. Yes, he just got his second offer from Nebraska. First was from Penn State. It will be interesting to see where and what position he ends up playing in college. We know he can run the football. We'll see how he develops as a thrower. Don't forget he's also a good DB. And don't forget he's supposed to be a very good baseball prospect.

That's hard to say because there have been great teams on their own level - like Class 1A or 2A - but wouldn't beat teams in 4A. Like Terrelle Pryor's 2007 Jeannette team. Unbelievable team. But they wouldn't beat big-school teams. But the 1987 North Hills team has to be up there (finished No. 1-ranked in country). Had seven seniors go either I-A or I-AA colleges.

Shout out to Damon Johncour (Former Woody High QB) of Avonworth and 3 A is gonna be a great rematch against Belle Vernon unless I am missing something ? Bring on the playoffs

Who is Damon Johncour? Ohhhhhhh, you mean Duke. Isn't his real first name Derek? But yes, Duke is underrated as a WPIAL coach. Done a great job. Not a bad 9th grade boys basketball coach, either.

If Cornell beats Canevin this Friday might you take a trip to cover Fort Cherry-Cornell the following week? Would be interested in your first hand impressions of Matt Sieg. Have you had a chance  yet to see him in action in any of the three sports he plays? Clearly Penn State offering means his success is not just due to lower competition.

You very well could see me next Friday at Fort Cherry. Haven't covered a game there since Mike Vernillo played there. Let's see. Should I play Fort Cherry golf course before I cover the game? What kind of shape is that in nowadays?

Hi Mike!!!  How about some of the teams and players in Class A this year.  The kid from Fort Cherry seems to be a real gem.  Looking forward to a couple of good games this weekend.  Cornell/BC and Union/Rochy.   Your thoughts on these games.

Hey Mike, Any predictions on how much the new changes in counting enrollment will impact classifications? No more fudging of the numbers for some schools.

Why do you say schools fudge numbers? Never been proof of that. Schools don't know enrollment classification cutoffs when they send in numbers. No way to determine who will be where until cutoffs come out from PIAA, which is after all schools hand in enrollment numbers.

For sure, and I'm hearing Central's Payton Wehner might skip college and go straight to Steelers to take over at QB. Just a rumor I've heard.

Attended my sons game Friday. Wont give the schools, but the opposing coach was a complete maniac. Swearing over and over, using the F word at the players. I couldn't believe it. I found out later that the assistant principal was also an assistant coach, and was swearing just as much. I can't get over it. I hope that school doesnt discipline kids for language, because their adults have free reign!!!

Why is it that Week 0 games are the only games that teams can schedule on their own?  I get conference games for determining playoffs should be scheduled by the WPIAL, but why can't non-conference games be scheduled by AD's as well?

That's been the WPIAL policy for number of years. I will tell you that years ago some of the good teams had trouble getting games because teams didn't want to play them.

As of today.. how many state champions do you see the wpial having at the end of this year? I think that 4-6A are tossups and 2A is prety much impossible.. Thoughts?

You were at the Moon and South Fayette game. What do you think of South Fayette’s offense? They have to have the worst QB and offensive coordinator in 5a.

C'mon, man. South Fayette doesn't have a whole lot right now but they have had some injury problems on offensive line and that has really hurt. Don't blame everything on the QB or OC.

We'll see. If Gateway has Birch and he has time to throw, maybe Gators can score some points. But I don't see anyone scoring a lot on them.

Please. Terry Totten won more games from 2010 through 2023 than any other coach in WPIAL. That's a fact. Central is really, really good this year and Ryan Lehmeier has done a great job. That offensive style he learned from Eric Kasperowicz and it is effective. But it certainly helps when you have the talent they have - and a QB like Payton Wehner. Put an average or below average QB in this system with average receivers and we'll see how many points they score.
