Yes, nice win by Kiski over Latrobe, but Latrobe isn't the same without Alex Tatsch. Decent year by Kucic. Now has over 600 yards rushing. But Kiski is 2-5 and 1-3 in conference. No playoffs for Cavaliers. As far as Mars basketball players, sorry but I don't know any of them.
March Madness

, Any must see pre-season hoops tourneys this year?
Mike White
11:37
Haven't even looked. We don't have schedule yet.
Press Box Meal
11:37
What school gives out the best press box meal these days?
Mike White
11:38
Not all that many give food. But Montour has to be up there. Really good. I think TJ gives Chic fil a sandwiches??? Worst idea if they leave the pickles on.

Give me the fighting Bill Swan's to knock off Seneca too! Go Sparty
Mike White
11:39
I'll take Hempfield, too. I don't think Billy is going, though. He might be able to watch from home, though. He told me he just bought some alumnium foil to put on the rabbit ears on his TV. He said he's going to run with his Walkman in and then watch the game.

How do you see the 4A playoffs playing out?  Would you say that the winner of Montour Aliquippa is the 1 seed or would you give it to TJ assuming that they win out being that they are through the tough part of their schedule? Going to be interesting to see if the powers that be give Belle Vernon the nod if they lose to Trinity at the end of the year as well.
Mike White
11:42
That's a good question about No. 1. I think it would depend on maybe the score of Montour vs. Aliquippa. Plus, if Aliquippa wins, they do have the loss to Penn Hills, although that's a decent 5A team. Really tough call.

Penn-Trafford looking like it's ready to make a run! Ground and Pound with clock management- a John Ruane special!
Mike White
11:44
He should get that old restaurant Ground Round to give Tasso Whipple NIL. Do you remember that restaurant? Oh man, it was great when my boys were younger. One day a week they would have Pay What You Weigh for kids. Tremendous. What if they had that for adults?

Say  Southmoreland, Imani, and Avonworth all win out. How do you see them being seeded?
Mike White
11:45
Imani certainly No. 1, Avonworth probably No. 2. But what if Deer Lakes gives Imani a really good game? Could Deer Lakes be No. 3. I don't think Southmoreland goes higher than 5 or 4 because of schedule.
TM
11:46
BP, USC, PT and SF are all having good seasons so far. Do you think WPIAL would be hesitant to take all 4 in playoffs?
Mike White
11:47
You won't have to worry about that, I don't think. South Fayette still has Bethel, Peters Township and Moon. So no, I would doubt if if the WPIAL would take four from that Allegheny Six conference.
Playoffs?
11:47
Mike, how does the playoff format work in 5A? How many wildcards? Do 4 in each section go?
Mike White
11:50
I need to refer to TM's question again. There are three wild cards in 5A. WPIAL picks them. I guess there would be a possibility that they could take from Allegheny SIx and one from another conference. But I don't think it's likely. As for playoffs in 5A, there are three conferences. The top three teams automatically qualify. WPIAL will pick three wild-card teams.
All Hail the Blue and White!
11:51
Leechburg is gonna win the WPIAL!
You gonna come and see the Blue Devils bedevil the Bears?
Mike White
11:51
No, Keith Barnes will be there.

Have any Single A Schools discussed Cop-opting with other schools for football? It seems to be happening a lot more in Central PA.
Mike White
11:53
There are definitely co-ops with smaller teams in WPIAL. I believe OLSH is co-oped with Propel maybe? Western Beaver has a co-op with Lincoln Park. A team that has benefitted greatly from a co-op is Southmoreland. A number of players from Geibel.

Sorry to keep bringing up Imani. I’m just extremely confused on this whole situation. Is it possible that they are using ineligible kids during the season? Can/should the WPIAL check their entire team for eligibility if they are lying about players classifications?
Mike White
11:54
Not that I know of. There is no penalty for giving rosters to WPIAL and PIAA with incorrect class years on them. It just doesn't look good.
Playoffs
11:54
To make another point on public/private...You could leave sections in the wpial the same as they are but have different playoffs.
Mike White
11:54
Yes, I'd say play together in regular season and then separate for playoffs.
NH fan
11:54
NH is quietly having a really good season.  How far can they go?
Mike White
11:56
That's a good question. North Hills is 6-1 for first time since 2010. I have not seen them other than some highlights. Seems like defense has been pretty good all season. Offense has its moments. They gave Pine a pretty good game, so that says something about them. They still have to play Penn Hills. That will be for second in the conference.

11:56
Any updates on transfers for winter sports, basketball or wrestling?
Mike White
11:57
Update is there are a lot of them. Anyone in particular you're asking about?
Dr. Hoops
11:57
He became the head coach at Imani in 2010, but his stint ended after the 2011-12 season. The program was suspended by the PIAA after it didn’t comply with PIAA transfer rules and Wilson realized his vision wasn’t possible at Imani.
Mike White
11:58
Yes, that was about Imani coach and was in Washington Observer Reporter story a few years back. I'm not saying anything.
Dr. Hoops
11:58
"Coach" Wilson from Imani has already been suspended by the PIAA back in 2011-12. I mean c'mon.
Mike White
11:59
No, he wasn't suspended. Imani sports programs were suspended for eligibility issues. They were let back in maybe a month or two later when they cleaned up their act some.

I know soccer is not usually discussed much here but what are your thoughts on the WPIAL now saying City League schools are not allowed to participate in the WPIAL soccer playoffs?
Mike White
12:00
That was because of a PIAA rule that was put in about a year ago maybe? It was put in because of Butler wanting to play in District 10 playoffs only for football. But don't blame the WPIAL on this one.
12:01
Well it's noon. So time to say so long. Half of a "gobblerito" is waiting for me. Good stuff today. Everyone, be good.
