Welcome. Two weeks left in the high school regular season. Still haven't had any cold or bad weather. What's going on this week? Well, Game of the Week is Friday McKeesport at Gateway. Some other good ones also. East Allegheny's T.J. Banks supposed to pick a college tomorrow. Well, I just lit up the "open" sign. So the store is now open. Questions, anyone?

Did you get a chance to see any of the Highlands /Blackhawk game?   Who or what impressed you the most?
Mike White
11:00
Sorry, Golden Ram did not.

If Montour wins on Friday against Blackhawk,South Fayette game will be a sell out, what's your thoughts on that game?
Mike White
11:01
On whether it will be a sellout? I'll have to check SeatGeek.
11:02
But Greg J as for game, I think it will be close. As we saw last week with TJ, no one is unbeatable in 4A.
South Fayette has been good. But not remarkable.

Good to see Kenny White back, PR will win it all
Mike White
11:04
You talking WPIAL or state? Not exactly going out on a limb for the WPIAL. No doubt, they have a chance to win the state also. But remember St. Joe's?

4A with TJ going down who do you think they would play in the 1st round of playoffs
Mike White
11:07
Geez, that's too hard to say at this point. I think they will get No. 3 seed. That would mean they would play the No. 6 seed. But what if South Fayette would lose to Montour?? Belle Vernon obviously would get No. 1 seed. Would TJ be 2?? Then they would play No. 7 seed. If they play someone from other conference in 4A, that would right now be New Castle or Mars.

Can you describe how teams are seeded within the WPIAL football playoffs?  Is it based on conference record alone, or overall record?  Is an attempt made to keep teams from the same conference apart, or to create a certain matchup in the championship?
Mike White
11:11
WPIAL always said its objective is to get the four best teams to the semifinals, and then let chips fall where they may. Few things go into it. No. 1 is obviously record, but strength of conference and schedule also is considered. For example, in Class 1A, teams from the Tri-County South Conference aren't going to be seeded high because that conference has struggled in playoffs. California this year is different, though. In teams from the Beaver Valley Conference that finish second or third might be seeded higher than other teams from other conferences because Beaver Valley's strength.

Class A Big Seven is a logjam at the top. Looks like OLSH's to lose at this point. Speaking of which, how did they lose to Northgate team that is struggling so bad?
Mike White
11:13
Yes OLSH has destiny in own hands. And yes OLSH lost to Northgate and South Side Beaver. First two games of year. Obviously much different team since then.

Class A Big Seven is a real log jam at the top but it looks like OLSH's to lose at this point. Considering how well they've played, how did they ever lose to Northgate in opener? Has Northgate RB Suron Adams been injured? Hard to believe they beat OLSH then eventually lose to Monessen.
Mike White
11:14
Looking at stats, Surron Adams has missed some games recently. That hurts.

I am definitely aboard the Guss Bus.  That kid is good, on both sides of the ball.  I really wanted to see them pull it off, and they had a shot.  If you were him, how upset would you be that multiple dropped passes potentially cost QV two - maybe three - touchdowns?
Mike White
11:15
I'd have thrown a Gatorade cooler on sideline.

Hi Mike.  Jeannette now three wins behind New Castle for all time WPIAL lead.  You think they catch them this year with a long playoff run?
Mike White
11:17
I say Jeannette finishes regular season undefeated and goes to at least WPIAL semis. But New Castle should win final two games also and then playoffs. And with Marcus Hooker, they have a chance against anyone.

Will Quaker Valley bounce back on the road against Seton LaSalle?
Mike White
11:18
Very interesting game. Non-conference but likely will decide No. 2 seed for the playoffs. But really it doesn't matter that much if you are seeded 2 or 3 in the playoffs. If you made me pick, I'd go Quaker. Have to deal with "Little Train" though. But Quaker has been good against the run I think all season.

Know anything about Indiana QB?  Hear he’s pretty good, but team is bad.  Transfer candidate?
Mike White
11:21
What? Transfer candidate? I'm not even going to go there. Yes I have heard he's good. Luke Thomas is his name. Decent size. Thrown for a lot of yards. I think he broke school passing record. He's a Division I kid? Not sure.

11:21
Do you think New Castle has the talent to win it all or its just on Hooker to carry them
Mike White
11:23
They seem to be playing well. On a roll. The key is their defense. And I guess Hooker playing QB now because he has around 40 pass attempts now. They started the season with a sophomore at QB. Maybe Hooker is playing like Geno Stone last year. No one expected NC to go to finals last year. So don't count them out.

The weekly question. Can they score on Quip? This week it's Santia and Central Valley's turn.
Mike White
11:23
Can they? Yes. Will they? I say no.
Kirk
11:23
Who do you think would win in a rematch between TJ and Belle Vernon?
Mike White
11:25
I'd pick TJ. But let's give Belle Vernon credit. I think Matt Humbert has done a tremendous job with that program and has become one of the better coaches around. Shoutout to him.

Looks like Imani will be getting another transfer via Montour then Bishop Canevin.

Have no idea.

I have been waiting to see Kenny White break out at PR this year, he has been back a few weeks now and not much has been done. Is he having trouble making the cuts because of the injury last year?
Mike White
11:27
The injury is from this year. Knee in first game of year. But here's the thing. Yes, Kenny White is good but P-R already had a good running back Jordan Crawford. He's good also and has proven himself. Jordan Crawford has "broken out" few times this year. White had 100 yards last week. But it was Shaler.

What happened to the Blackhawk and Connellsville football programs.
Mike White
11:28
Connellsville one is a mystery. Amazing how bad they are. Never been the same since Dan Spanish left. I don't have an answer. Blackhawk? Cougars were starting to drop some in Joe Hamilton's final few years. Blackhawk was 5-4 last year, though.

Sorry for the repeat...wasn't sure the first one sent. Saw recently that Jeanette had two invited to Offense-Defense national all star game in Dec. I can understand seniors being invited (Robert Kennedy), but apparently this game has underclassmen combine too. Do you see this as a trend for national HS all star games? Just the first I've heard of such a thing.
Mike White
11:30
Juniors and other non-seniors are not allowed to play in all-star games. Have to be a senior. Yes, you can go to things like national combines. That's not all-star game. US Army All-American has had a national combine for a number of years. An all star "GAME" is different.

Would love for Highlands to be the spoiler for SF
