Mike every Saturday I read the summaries and the stats and there are many teams that say unavailable quarters or statistics what is going on there I talked to the guy from Aliquippa who for the last 3 weeks it has no stats but he says he sends it in immediately right after the game what is happening mole

No, you're wrong. Either teams don't send at all or they send way too late to get them in that night. We've sent memos to coaches and ADs asking to send in games. It's been like this for years. Some just refuse to do it. Or they'll send in only their team's scoring and the other team's. But this isn't a new problem. Been going on for years. We try, but it's only hurting their own schools. We ask home teams to send in. Visiting teams can send in if they want. Often they don't. And getting stats sent to us at 1 or 2 in the morning or the next day does no good.

Mike, thoughts on the loss of television time for WPIAL championships? Blows my mind games can be televised via Youtube etc. but we can't televise these games as they are cost prohibitive. Hoping districts step up to the plate and stream the games so they won't be missed by folks who can't make the trip to the game.

First off, games will indeed be streamed. But by Tribune Review high school network. For broadcast TV, people just don't seem to get it. They can't understand why a station that loses over 50 thousand dollars every year doesn't want to do the games? C'mon, man. The rights fees to the WPIAL are a part of the cost but the biggest cost is production. People don't understand how much it costs to put four games on live TV. KDKA GM was quoted in my story last week that it takes more than six figures. There are so many costs that people don't know about. Yes, it's nice to have them on but why do you think there aren't stations lining up to do them. They lose money. Believe it or not, there aren't many people lining up to advertise on high school TV games, either. Don't blame KDKA.

Real nice talk. I'll answer the question, though. Yes, I would classify Westinghouse as favorite to get to 2A first round. Good chance would have to play Farrell again. Farrell is good again. Farrell won last year, 24-7. I think Westinghouse is good enough to play right with Farrell this year, and even win. From there, onto quarterfinals and maybe semifinals? They wouldn't meet a WPIAL team until semifinals.

Just a quick follow up on Ethen Knox. I have a buddy in Erie area and he says coach also has left him in some blowout games too. That’s weak. Your point is well taken. No disrespect to Knox, not his fault coach keeps calling his number, but give Quinton Martin the ball 50 times and let’s see his stats.

Exactly. There are WPIAL kids averaging 11, 12, 13 yards a carry. Give them the ball 35 times a game and see what happens. But it is impressive that the kid is durable enough to carry the ball that many times.

I've watched two different angles of it. Hard to say. Was real close to line. But I think rule might be there is a neutral zone also that extends 2 yards behind the line on plays like this. There was an official right there. I have no problem.

In your opinion, what separated Phil Jurkovec being 4-5 star recruit and Caiden Olsen who received mainly FBS offers (and ultimately signing with Penn)? They seem to be very similar HS quarterbacks. Granted, a full ride to the top program in the Ivy league is phenomenal. Just wondering if could've held out for Power 5 attn?

First off, I admit I have never seen a full game of Olsen in person. Just parts and highlights. Olsen very nice QB. But the difference? Phil just better all around. Olsen is nice. But he has been on film for colleges. He went to some college camps. The offers never came. Obviously, they don't think he's as good as Phil. Who knows? Maybe Olsen will be someday. But I certainly wouldn't say that now. And again I don't mean to knock Cadin. Very good QB. Deserves ton of props. But you asked me to compare them.

Is there a place be it the WPIAL website or somewhere that list things like all time won loss records for a school, all time head to head matchups school vs school, most points scored by a team in a single game. That stuff is interesting to me

Nope, there isn't. Some schools have all time records of their team, but not many. WPIAL does not keep any statistical records. Honestly, I have a number of statistical records that I have researched and keep track of over the years. Some were handed down to me and then I try to keep them up to date. But there is no central clearing house for that stuff.

I've watched several films of the Central Catholic win over Penn Hills.  To me, it's pretty clear: 1) the ball crossed the line of scrimmage; 2) the line judge/head linesman vacated his position on the line and moved toward the goal line when he saw the Central Catholic player moving that direction.  While it was an exciting play, it should NOT have been a touchdown.
