Not much to understand. Big 7 had 2 teams with one loss and two with two. They are only fourth because wpial applies tie breakers in section to establish 1,2,3 and 4. The only organization to do that to get the “ at large playoff bid”. Laurel vs GCC would go to Gardner points where laurel wins. Every organization does at large bids this way except wpial( GCC had two section losses laurel had two).
Mike White
11:37
That's why taking four from each conference would be better. But no matter what you look at, Laurel finished fourth in conference. GCC finished third in its conference.

What is the deal with NH QB?  Is he playing this week?    I need to know before I meet with my bookie.

All of Las Vegas seems to be asking if Dylan Pawling is playing. The sportsbook at The Belaggio just called and asked the same thing. Answer: I don't know.

Mike looking at the PIAA 3A bracket i think Westinghouse has a good chance of winning 4 games and advancing to the semifinals to meet the WPIAL champion. What are your thoughts?
Mike White
11:43
I think they could definitely win a game or two. But they would eventually have to meet good teams, even the District 10 champ. Won't be easy, but I think 'House can play with those teams.

Mike why would Moon not be given at least a #3 seed in 5A? Does conf championship not mean anything?
Mike White
11:44
Yes, it does. But what also means something is how good Gateway is. Gateway didn't win a conference but so what? Doesn't mean they can't be seeded in top three. Gateway got No. 2 seed. Penn Hills is defending state champ and only loss to 6A Pine-Richland. Moon should've been 3 or 4.

Nobody has talked about how many career wins overall Mark Lyons has as a head coach in the WPIAL. I know he was at Monaca, Mr.Pleasant,Freedom and now at Central Valley but I just wondering if he can approach the likes of Tarquinio, Hamilton and Jim Render ?
Mike White
11:47
Without a doubt Mark Lyons is one fine ball coach. Very underrated. But he's proven himself. Won WPIALs. Has two players in NFL. I have him with 167 wins. No way he's catching Render. Would need to coach 14-15 more years and win a lot of games to catch Hamilton.

I think Justin Huss did not play for Derry against North Catholic in reg season loss

OK

Just for fun. Best team in the WPIAL?  If all classes were forced to play each other in a big playoff, who would win.
Mike White

Either Central, NA or Pine

First off, you doing ok Mike? Seems like you have missed a few Friday nights this year in terms of covering a game. I’m still not following the seeding of Jeannette, why aren’t they a 4 or 5 seed?
Mike White
11:49
I am doing OK, Zman. Thanks for asking. Yes, I did sit out a few Fridays for some health reasons. But I'm good. Yes, we discussed Jeannette seeding above. I think they should be playing West Greene. No doubt.

On Sto Rox vs Jeannette - might be the best chance for Sto to beat Jeannette to play them in the first round, especially if Jackson Pruitt misses the game.  Sto relies on its skill being better/faster than their opponents, and I don't think they have enough offensive weapons to overcome Jeannette's team speed on defense if Pruitt plays.
Mike White
11:49
I say Jeannette is definitely the favorite.

How surprised were you at Pine Richland's margin of victory over NA?  I had seen each team play 3 times and thought NA was more talented...considerably even. This one was played without Porter and Dinkins...and then at some point Sam "The Mullet" Sheridan went down for the count. I still thought NA's line would have their way and they would be able to run on PR. My takeaway..if you dn
Mike White
11:51
Yes, I was very surprised at outcome. I watched some of the game on TV. NA is all beat up. No doubt that was a factor. But it was 14-14 at one point. Who would've expected Pine to score 31 in row? Sometimes things snowball and you just can't stop it. Look at Central Valley-Quips. That's what makes sports great. The surprises.

I warned you of Studly Dudley after the TJ game several weeks ago.  Do you know if he is getting any college interest (perhaps as an athlete)?   CV gave TJ a tough game until about mid way through the second quarter. They are big with talent/size at wide out and an athletic qb. They will be a tough out in a classification w/o a marquee private school.
Mike White
11:52
Dudley is good. Very athletic. I have no idea about his college recruiting, but I don't think he's a big-timer at QB. He's good, but not at that level.

Moon has a young team. What are your thoughts on them in next couple years?
Mike White
11:52
I think they start 6 or 7 sophomores. Future is bright. Have to be in top 2 or 3 heading into next year.

Could the WPIAL expand to more than 8 teams for the playoffs in 2020 for Class 3A? I think 8 teams is not enough. With the way it is now, there are good teams (Burrell, Keystone Oaks) both with 6 wins and out of the playoffs. What do you think ?
Mike White
11:53
Well there are only 17 teams in 3A. Eight make the playoffs. That's about half. Is that not enough?
Old timer
11:54
I feared you would take that position. Not sure anyone clearly understands the issue. Wpial rewards poor section play with auto playoff bids. Great lesson!
Mike White
11:54
Yes, some conferences are better than others.

When was the last time you covered a game at my stadium?

Has coach z destroyed his legacy?
Mike White
11:56
I can't remember. Maybe a playoff game. I covered Ringgold at Belle Vernon a few years ago. As for a Ringgold home game, it might be 1994 (Brandon Short's senior year at McKeesport). Sorry, Joe.
Seton was pretty young this year. Lot of sophomores and freshmen played. They will be improved.

Do you think Coach K of P-R will look to move on in next few years to college coaching ranks. To me he seems like a guy who would be great recruiter and also seems very bright with coaching strategies.
Mike White
11:57
Doubt it. He has family and kids. His kid might be Pine-Richland's QB in a few years.
Gotta go. We'll do it again next Tuesday.
