What's up everyone? Greetings from a waiting area while waiting to get car inspected. Fun stuff and probably something you really didn't care to know. But let's get started. Store now open.

Officiating question for you Mike.  Do you see an inherent conflict of interest to have a father referee a basketball game where the winner would then face his son's or daughter's team in the next round of the playoffs?
Mike White
11:02
Wow. Good question. I'd probably stay away from that. If I was the official, I'd probably remove myself from that situation also. Why? Did it happen.

Mike, it will be 15 years to the day that Union won their incredible WPIAL title in 2003 when they play Vincentian on Thursday night. Will that good mojo get them a W??
Mike White
11:04
Stanley Steamer has Union back in title game. Mark Stanley won that title as coach in 2003. Left for New Castle. Things didn't work out there. Now back at Union. And Vincentian has first year coach in Tim Tyree. Interesting stuff. Game seems even doesn't it? They split two games in regular season. Two 20 something scorers in Zach McDonough and Tre Charles. I'll go with Vincentian.

Who is the most talented high school athlete in any sport to come from PGH?    Dan Marino?
Mike White
11:05
Geez, that's hard to say. We have something like 7 or 8 Pro Football Hall of Famers. We have Olympic gold medalists. You pick Marino over Montana, Namath, etc. Can't make that distinction.

Has there ever been a school win 3 state championships in the same school year like Quaker Valley has the chance to do if they complete the fete in basketball having already won in football and soccer?  Speaks to the kind of versatility of the athletes that the QV system has and the way that the coaches must support each other in all sports to share the athletes in this age of specialization.  Your comments.
Mike White
11:08
Well Dave, I can't say for sure. Would say probably not, but I haven't checked for sure. You have to remember sports like volleyball, wrestling and more. I do know this. No one has ever won states in soccer, football and basketball. QV already has soccer and football. I think they win WPIAL in basketball. But I don't predict a state title in hoops. Too much on other side of state.

Will Cameron Reddish play in the NBA one day?
Mike White

Guess if he's Cameron ready

What is the ceiling for Micah Parsons? He seems awesome
Mike White
11:10
I think there are 7 foot ceilings in his house , so he really can't jump that much. ... I'm hilarious, right? Well you're talking about Harrisburg's Micah Parsons, Penn State recruit. Was really good in high school. Rated among top players in high school. Never saw play person. But expected to do big things at PSU.

What position does Kenny White play?
Mike White
11:11
Football or basketball?? Running back-DB in football. Forward in hoops.

Is Allen Iverson the greatest basketball player to ever play at any level in the state of PA?
Mike White

You ever heard of Wilt Chamberlain?

What was Zmijanac's annual salary?   I know nothing about the story and don't really care, but i am just curious. Thanks, Mike!
Mike White
11:12
No idea. He's retired teacher so he would get pension for that. The AD position is part time at Aliquippa. Not many sports. Plus he got a football salary. No idea what they were.

What are your thoughts on the passing of Chuck Klausing?  He was a legend here in the Valley.  Best ever in WPIAL football when you think of what he did in a short amount of time.
Mike White
11:13
Great coach .... and great man. Enjoyed getting to know him over the years. Even his later years, he would get on his computer and email me about things. Yes, what he did in short period of time at Braddock I doubt will not be matched.

Does Jason Taylor deserve to be in the Hall of Fame? Don't just say YES as a homer. Thanks.
Mike White
11:15
So if I say yes, that makes me a homer. Please. ... Honestly I go back and forth. I'm not convinced either way.

Do you agree with Aliquippa SB decision to release Coach Zmijanac because his assistants due all the work ? Do you think there is any merit there? Dont you think the situation could have been handled better?
Mike White
11:17
His assistants do all the work??? Please. Assistants do work for every team. He ran the offense, called the plays. Every time I was at Aliquippa, sure looked like he was coaching. Whatever reason they want to use for opening the job, it's ridiculous. But only one school board member has talked. And he hasn't exactly made the board look tremendous and I'll leave it at that.

Will Coach Z be the head coach at another WPIAL school this Fall?
Mike White
11:18
Doubt it. But hey, Quaker Valley job is still open. I'm all in for that story. How about it?

Mike i rarely have an issue with the choosing of venues but I don't understand how the WPIAL decided to give a 3rd straight game at North Hills for Pine Richland. Wouldn't had been fair to put the Lebo Penn Hills at North Hills and The Woody PR game at Baldwin? Logic being that neither Penn Hills or Lebo played there in the regular season and Woody is the higher seed over PR. The Committee seems to be rewarding PR.
Mike White
11:22
You could make a point for that, yes. But I'm not that real big on teams having an advantage because they played on a court before.

What are your thoughts about the low scoring game between FR & Moon?  Great defense or off shooting night?  Very surprising, especially for Moon as they had consistent scoring from their guards all year.
Mike White
11:25
Terrible game to watch. I know people say it was another example of needing a shot clock. But if you had 35 second clock, I don't think there would've been that many violations. First time someone scored 30 and won a playoff game since 1988. I was able to look up some records with help from Horse Mrazik. Before that, last time team won a playoff game without scoring 30 was 1940s. Teams did shoot horribly but I will say both teams play pretty darn good defense. And Adam Kaufmann teams in playoffs (even when he was at Montour) have been known to control pace. The game was a little bit of an example of what is in basketball a lot these days on WPa. level. Lack of players who can make "plays" on their own.

Good morning, Mike.  I'm sure you're going to get a lot of this, but can you offer any insight in the the Coach Z situation beyond what has been reported?
Mike White
11:31
Not really. Really hard to explain. I do know that these board people, many of them new, just don't like him. Some have said Aileen GIlbert led the charge just to get her son Sean the job. Sean lives in North Carolina and I don't know if he ever has coached before. I don't have any facts that Sean Gilbert wants this job. I don't know that to be true. What's alarming is people who voted against him. Wife of Aliquippa line coach. A volunteer assistant on the state. Sister of another former Quip player and volunteer assistant coach. Plus, Aileen Gilbert's son is one of most celebrated players in Aliquippa history. Again, this just another example of a few wrong people who don't like you and get on school board -- and you're done as a coach. Almost impossible to fire a teacher unless they do something really wrong -- usually criminally. But school boards can fire coaches just because they don't like him. Great system, isn't it? I have a friend who has coached and been an administrator in Virginia.
I like Virginia system. No individual school boards do hiring and firing. It's superintendent and principal.

We know how you feel about the North Allegheny girls already.  Who do you like in the Peter's vs. Bethel Park game tonight.  Who would have a better chance  against NA in the championship.
Mike White
11:32
I take Peters.

Why would the WPIAL choose Geneva College to host WPIAL Playoffs - shouldn't  that money go to a WPIAL school? It sure wasn't because it is a nice facility, parking is bad, small venue, especially when New Castle comes.
Mike White
11:34
It's not a small venue. Disagree on that. I know parking not good but parking is not good at some other schools. Geneva willing to host. They have had many WPIAL games there over the years. I still remember state semifinal games there. Last night, Quips and Lincoln Park boys, and Beaver and Blackhawk boys. Four Beaver County teams. What in the heck is wrong with playing it at Geneva? Besides WPIAL hands are tied somewhat this year. NA won't let WPIAL play games there. NA apparently not happy with WPIAL for some reason.

Ringgold Football Head Coaching Job is open as well as Quaker Valley.
Mike White
11:35
Well I know Mike Z probably won't coach anywhere in the fall. And I know he ain't going to Ringgold.
