@ Sonny. PR mercy rule in 5A in first half. Too strong up front. They can run and pass.

If P-R loses it would be monumental upset.

Under normal circumstances, the Tj aliquippa game would’ve had to of drawn one of the biggest crowds at Heinz for a Wpial championship. Any early thoughts on that game?
Mike White
11:43
Yes, but I must say. Aliquippa doesn't bring a ton of people to Heinz for those games. Maybe because they're a Class 1A school in enrollment. I would think it would probably be close. Aliquippa proved last week it has a passing game. Any time you play Aliquippa, you have to limit big plays - and mistakes. I'll take TJ.

Mythical football matchup. Who would you take in a winner-take all game, 2017 Pine Richland or 2010 North Allegheny. I'm a homer and would go with PR due to its explosive offense led by one of the best ever WPIAL QBs. But if memory serves right, NA's O and D Lines were so dominant along with a fantastic defense. I think NA ended up higher in the national rankings. Also, PR needs to play their neighbor every year rather than CC as long as they are in 5A.
Mike White
11:45
Sorry Rams fan, but the NA 2010 team was not even the best in their run of two state titles in three years. The 2012 team was the better one. More dominant. That said, I would still take Pine-Richland. Mack Leftwich was good, but I'll go with the kid named Phil as the difference.

What are you hearing about basketball tournaments over the holidays?
Mike White
11:46
I'm hearing they might be played and I'm hearing they might not be played. Stay tuned. Some tipoff tourneys are in jeopardy and I think some have been called off.

Mike ,Cole Spencer of PR is player of the year. Wins and stats tell the story.

You can definitely make a case for "Sunshine." Not bad for a wrestler. He's thrown for 2,000 yards in 8 games. Completion percentage of 74. Phenomenal year.

Umm...Devin Carney is a no show at butler...as was his D-1 VB Sister Ava...didn't play the whole year...
Mike White
11:49
Yes, I was told he was not at any preseason workouts and sister didn't play volleyball. Doesn't mean Devin Carney is still not there, maybe taking online classes like he used to. We shall see. You never know.

Mike- Im glad wpial got through as much of the schedule as they did.  Tough for some kids to lose some games, but all in all went smoother than I thought.  Had to be a very stressful year for coaches.

And athletes ... and athletic directors ... and principals ... and trainers. ... and parents ... and most importantly sports writers.

Mike , who is the coach of the year in football. ?
Mike White
11:51
I don't think you can say until you see how things play out. Might be a championship coach. Might be someone like Collodi at EF, who has team in final for first time in history. Matt Morgan at Plum. John Skiba at Apollo-Ridge. Let's see how plays out.

Mike, quite the dynasty Donna Stephenson has built up at PR in field hockey. 3 WPIAL championships in 4 years and played In championship in all 4 years.  My vote for overall coach of the year.

Tremendous job. Kudos to her. Hip, hip hooray.

What’s one dream matchup you’d like to see in hoops this year ?
Mike White

Lakers vs. New Castle.

What is the ticket policy for this weeks games. I heard last week it was 500 per team.
Mike White
11:54
Yes, that was it last week. I'm sure it will probably be the same this week. Not greatest atmosphere, but not totally bad.

the mythical matchup makes no sense as the 2004 PCC team was the best ever!
Mike White
11:55
Well the Central Catholic 2004 team is in the WPIAL Hall of Fame. But the best ever? We can debate that.
11:58
OK, that's about it. Be good, everyone. And again, prayers to the Amalia family.
