Butler, Upper St. Clair, Central Catholic, Mt. Lebanon and Baldwin. But as I said earlier, 6A doesn't have any great teams this year. It's pretty open. A little bit of a down year for 6A. But that might make it more interesting.

Central Catholic football is in good hands.  Maybe Terry Totten will get more respect in retrospect by many local fans than he did while coaching.  I'd say that a typical Totten team was better defensively than this star studded one.  Yes, i"m aware that Totten was still helping out this year, but the success he had at Central wasn't just about players.

Totally agree with you, X. Terry didn't get the respect he deserved. I mean, look at the WPIAL titles. And yes, Central will be fine in the future with Ryan Lehmeier.

Morning! Thoughts on the 6A WPIAL Championship game?

One of the best I've seen. Loved it. I think NA won battle up front and Art Walker said it best. Logan Kushner was best player on field. He pulled that team to victory.
What about VB?

Hey Mike - I know you aren't a VB guy but can you recall any sports program as dominant as the NA girls volleyball team? 7 in a row PIAA 4A state championships. This team only had 1 returning starter from last year and won WPIAL and States.  The football program gets all the attention (well deserved) but these girls deserve the praise!

NA volleyball in boys and girls are amazing. I agree, both girls and boys at NA deserve lots of praise. And we do write about them. NA swimmig has been pretty good, too. And cross country.

Central Head coach looked a little cautious in play calling in championship game… did he really think they could just line up and beat NA like they did first time. He never went for 2 or did anything exotic.

They scored 41 points. That's being cautious? Sorry, I disagree. Usually, that's enough to win a championship game. How 'bout if the defense could've come up with a few more stops?

Art Walker now has more titles than his Dad! What a legacy there between those two! Any other father son combos that have that many WPIAL titles in any sport?

Not that I know of. I think it's a really cool story. That's 13 titles between Dad and son. Son passed up the Dad this weekend.

As a former WPIAL athlete from the 90's, I love your work and the wealth of history and knowledge you bring to the high school sports section.  I also enjoy your responses to those who ask 'does so and so have a chance'.... with that, I'd like to hear what you think are the 3 to 5 biggest upsets in WPIAL football playoff history.  Thanks!

Well, thank you WestCo Fan. I had to not answer the question, but it catches me a little off guard. I'd have to go back and look at scores. Hard to do right off the top of the head. But thanks for the kind words.
