Yes, but this happens in a number of winters. If Union is playing three section games in three days, that's their fault. They schedule the makeup games.
11:42
I don't disagree with you, but that ight go a little to the competitive balance angle. Know what I mean? For example, if you take Penn Hills out of conference 3 and place them into conference 1, that puts Woodland HIlls, Penn Hills, Bethel Park, West Allegheny and Upper St. Clair in one conference. That's a killer conference. Then the conference in the north would be a little weak. Plus, you have balance with three eight team conferences. Maybe Penn Hills, Woody High and Gateway can play in non-conference. WPIAL will tell you non-conference is done at random. I say no way.

Thanks. And how strange/ironic for Southmoreland this year: lose Kevin Stone to out-of-state prep school and get Konek from out-of-state prep school. Unrelated I'm sure, but quite the interesting revolving door nonetheless.

You are the most interesting "chatter" on here. Stay thirsty, my friend. But It's Brandon Stone.

Like the move for North Hills to play up in 6A next year?  Shaler choose to not play up?  Which would you do if you were in charge?
Mike White
11:44
I can see either way for North Hills. Keep some natural rivalries in 6A. If you go 5, you're still doing to have what might be a tough section with Mars, Hampton, Moon, Char Valley maybe. Plus, it's not forever. If they are 5A in two years and they wish, then maybe they can play 5A then.

What happened at Perry? you think combining them and the old Oliver would have them dominating, they are getting beat by 35 a game!!
Mike White
11:46
It really is unbelievable what has happened to that program? Rod Rutherford is coaching football now, but that program also has long, long way to go. I don't have the answer as to what happened at Perry, except to say this: I've seen Perry basketball play once past couple years (not this year). There isn't anything there in terms of talent.

I agree PH, Gateway and Woody High have to play non conference, but we all know that when it comes to the WPIAL rivalries don't really matter.
Mike White
11:48
I don't know why you say that? With six classes, rivalries have been lost. But WPIAL didn't pick to go to six classes.

Always thirsty, if not accurate with first names. Last chatter offering for the week: enjoyed the compilation on shot clock last week. Question: would any shot clock mandate have to come from PIAA level or do Districts have some flexibility, at least during regular season and/or District playoffs?
Mike White
11:48
99 percent sure it has to come from PIAA level. And no way you could "experiment" in playoffs.

Big win for Butler last night, does that win change how you look at how they will finish the season, one of the better in 6A?
Mike White
11:51
Well WPIAL guy, they have been in top five since early in season. And they will stay there. Butler beat Central; Central beat Pine; Pine beat Butler. Go figure. Like I said before, I think 6A has a number of good teams this year. Not a great, great team. Butler is one of the good teams and has a chance to make playoff run, mainly because of Ethan Morton. But there is such a fine line with many 6A teams. It wouldn't surprise me if Butler went far in the playoffs, but it also wouldn't surprise me if they lost early or in quarterfinals.

Why not use shot clock in tourneys and events like the PGH Basketball Classic, those games are showcases, players and fans would love it, not so sure about the coaches
Mike White
11:52
As the story said last week, most coaches want it. But again, we're getting back to costs. Gyms have to have shot clock system., even for experiments.

Morton-Butler, Jurkovec-PR, Carmody-Mars.  Who's the best?
Mike White
11:53
Well that's easy. Carmody the best player right now. He's a senior. But Morton is the best for the future in WPIAL. Morton and Carmody are different players. But they are alike in that they do so many things for their team.

TIGER PAUL LIVES!!!

It's a miracle.
And bring back Mossie Murphy, too.

11:54
they can play one-on-one and Deuce will keep the book...as long as it's not played in Uniontown!
Mike White
11:54
And Ace will officiate.
11:56
And did you know there is an establishment on Fifth Ave. in Uptown called Ace's and Deuce's. I talked to the owner to change the name to Heberling's and Skurcenski's.
And on that one, I'm out of here. Be good, everyone. Next Tuesday at 11.
