Hey Mike, two quick questions. 1) Can you confirm if Jeff Christy make the all-time Fab 22 team? One of the best high school players I ever saw, multiple Pro Bowl appearances, two-time All-Pro. If not, I might have to switch over to the Trib. 2) What are  you odds on a WPIAL basketball season happening? I'm guessing some challenges along the way, and probably less WPIAL teams in the PIAA tourney, but I'm cautiously optimistic and wanted your take. Thanks, keep up the great work!

To Sarver Forever. No I can not confirm or deny that Jeff Christy made the all time Fab 22. That wouldn't be right. We are announcing it later this week. Sorry, but you'll just have to hold on. As for basketball, yes it will happen. When? Remains to be seen. But PIAA director Bob Lombardi told me in Hershey that they want to try and start. They certainly don't want to cancel. Could there be a delay? Possibly. PIAA board meets Dec. 9. Some teams are delaying but that doesn't necessarily mean all teams should have to shut down.

Struck by your comment that McCord kid is one of best QBs you have seen. Takes in a lot of territory. I watched the first half. What impressed you the most about him?
Mike White
11:09
You're talking about Kyle McCord, QB from St. Joe's. What wouldn't impress you about him? Arm strength. Touch. Can throw every pass. Moves well enough. Big. Strong. Sure it helps to have big time receivers, but the kid is really good. Reminds me some of Ron Powlus when I saw him in 1992 at Berwick.

Rank the USC Lebo boys basketball section as a preview for the season
Mike White
11:12
USC definitely No. 1. Will be NO. 1 in 6A in preseason. Mt. Lebanon lost a lot but they are still Lebo with Joe David. Will always be more than competitive. As for the other four, throw a blanket over them. Bethel lost a lot. Baldwin and Peters have new coaches. Not sure what Canon-Mac has. Will be interesting to see what Jeff Ackerman does at Baldwin.

Is there any book that the general public can purchase on the history of the WPIAL that includes stats? Where do you get all of your WPIAL historical information?
Mike White
11:14
No there isn't. I get it mostly from myself. Kept records over the many years and got some things from other people. A guy named Rush Pedder in Penn-Trafford published a book on history of WPIAL football two years ago. Lot of stuff in it. Lot of stuff taken from Post-Gazette.

Any commentary on the 4 time PIAA Champion NA girls VB teams?  Been awhile since the word DYNASTY was applicable.
Mike White
11:16
Yes, dynasty. Four states in a row. Let's hope they don't hold up four fingers and just yell constantly fourrrrrrrrrr!!!! like the stupid tradition in football. Can you tell I hate fourrrrrrrrr!!!! Never understood what that is supposed to do Like the other team says, "Oh no, we're done, they're doing the fourrrrrrr thing."

Hey Mike Who in your opinion Had the most individual dominating performance in the state Championship games?
Mike White
11:22
St. Joe's. Sure it will bring up the Catholic school debate again.

One of the great "what-ifs" regarding high school football is with teams from different classifications playing against each other. With some teams, like Aliquippa, we already know how they stack up (and they looked like the 2nd best 4A team in the state). Let's say Pine-Richland played Clairton...I'm certain P-R wins, but by how many? And (God love you, Green County football), for the heck of it, Mapletown vs North Allegheny?
Mike White
11:26
Please. Clairton has a great program. And they've had some great teams. But Pine-Richland vs. Clairton this year would not be pretty. And that's not a knock of Clairton program. You can't expect Class 1A team to play even with a 5A team. It boggles my mind how people think that could happen in football. Not much difference between 1A and 2A. Jump from 2A to 3A isn't gigantic. 3A to 4A starts to get harder. But 4A to 5A is a huge difference. I always say, go watch maybe a Class 2A playoff game, followed by maybe a 5A playoff game. It's like two different worlds.

Hey Mike, who in your opinion had the most individual dominating performance this weekend in Hershey? From the WPIAL
Mike White
11:26
Pine-Richland. Linebacker Luke Miller. 16 or 18 tackles. At one point, it seemed like he was making every tackle. A lot more than his Dad used to at Pitt. Ha ha.

Hi Mike.  Out of all the State Championship games played, which players stood out? I watched all of them and saw some great players
Mike White
11:27
St. Joe's quarterback Kyle McCord. Ohio State recruit. One of best QBs in country. I finally saw him for a whole game. Not just highlights. One of best QBs I've ever seen.

According to Butler website Devin Carney is listed on the basketball roster.   Hopefully it is true.  Always help to have talent.  Keep up the great work.

Yes he has come out for the team. Lots of rumors about him being elsewhere. He didn't come to offseason workouts with the team. But he is now out for the team.

What’s the deal with Southern Columbia? Small public school, didn’t get moved up so I’m assuming they don’t do transfers much, unbelievable long standing success. Do you know anything about the geographic area? Football just ingrained there similar to Quippa?
Mike White
11:33
Been good for years. Jim Roth one of the winningest coaches in history of U.S. high school football. People keep asking why didn't they have to move up under new PIAA competition formula. Well they did have transfers. But they appealed to PIAA and claimed transfers were before new rule went into effect. PIAA then let them stay in Class 2A. We shall see next time.
11:34
And now for shameless plug. All time Fab 22 coming out later this week. List of names, when you see them on paper, is ridiculous. Reminder, it's only for 40 years of Fab 22. So Marino, Montana, Dorsett, Namath aren't eligible. Look for it later this week.

Hope to see an article soon bout high school mascots.  I know it comes up every couple of years.  My personal favorite is still Arkansas School for the Deaf Leopards.

I've done it twice over the years. Water
11:38
Let me finish. I've done a few of the nickname stories over the years. Watersmeet Nimrods still might be my favorite in Michigan. How bou Poca Dots in WVa. John Marshall Lawyers in Ohio. North East Grapepickers near Erie. And Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms in Minnesota. John Marshall Lawyers (Ohio), Poca Dots (W.Va.), Lakeland Dreadnaughts (Fla.), Watersmeet Nimrods (Mich.), Chinook Sugar Beeters (Mont.), Lincoln Alices (Ind.) and Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms (Minn.)

Hey Mike, would stack this PR team as one of the very best I have seen for 5A. . But not as good as 2017. No xfactor w Phil, no Crawford and didn’t compete against the big o and d lines in 6A week in and week out.  Oh, and didn’t open up against an Ohio powerhouse and lastly didn’t beat St Joe’s or even play St Joes.

Give this team their just due. Really, really good. Had lots of things going for them. Cole Spencer tremendous high school QB. Jochem excellent receiver. Miller was terrific at LB. Miguel Jackson. But other players were really good like Hasley and others. Still, I agree, if you made me choose I would still take the 2017 team.
11:50
OK. That's about it for now. Football is over, but we will still chat every Tuesday at 11 a.m. First night for basketball is Dec. 11 - we hope. All-time Fab 22 out later this week. Everyone, be good.
