We don't have all the basketball tournament schedules yet for this weekend. But Friday night, Pine-Richland at Norwin isn't bad. Mohawk is No. 1-ranked in 3A. Playing at Central.

As my name suggests I am a HS basketball coach.  I want to vent here a bit but want your opinion.  I wish kids took more pride in playing for their school instead of their social media.  I hate to spoil it for these kids but no one is fooled by stuff you put online.  Any the laughable "rankings" that are released on social media accounts aren't doing anything for you.  Take over hoops, the content king, wpial insider, etc are hurting high school sports and they don't even realize it.  They do it for clout and $.  Not the kids.

Yes, kids care a lot about social media. As for rankings, you see any Tom, Dick and Harry sometimes doing rankings right now. Hey, some are legit. Some just want to get in on this stuff. Who am I to rip on them? But naive parents and players believe so much what's on social media and don't have a clue.

Of the 3 wpial teams have, how do you rank them in order of chances of winning the state title?   What do you think about Farrell vs Southern Columbia. Farrell has been dominant in the playoffs and played a tough team or two out of conference early in the season.

I wouldn't rank them at all. They all have tough games. I think maybe Clairton has the best shot to win. As for Farrell and Southern Columbia, you do know Southern Columbia has been rolling also.

No question, just wanted to say one of the most enjoyable parts to me of your coverage over the years are the video interviews you do with the players. The kids for the most part are still innocent, kinda naive, honest, and funny in their responses. Just the way teenagers are meant to be. Maybe that’s one of the reasons you have enjoyed doing this for so long, they keep you feeling young!

Thank you very much Mr. Ed. I love dealing with kids. Keeps you young. And I enjoy talking with them, even when I started in this business. But I'd say the same about coaches. Kids and relationships are the primary reason I coach some, too.

PR has a target on their back from all of the transfers and the stuff their players put out on social media.  Is it fair to say they are the closest thing we have a villain in high school football?  I never remember so much hate towards a public school football team before.

I have no idea about social media stuff that Pine-Richland says, or says about them. Don't really care, either, unless they're making a college choice.

I think 2023 NA is better.   Kushner was a dual threat qb...very good with his legs and Herrick doesn't run.  Boyd is a better receiver than any that Central Catholic currently has.   The NA kid on the dline that is at Richmond was pretty dominant

We can debate. But Central has some pretty dang good players, too. Seriously, I don't know how you can make any kind of comparison until you see what Central does in the final game.

Wow, that's something for Spratt.  I was at the game and it did seem like he had quite a few again.   Chrys Black the last 2 weeks doesn't at all remember the Chrys Black in the first two games. He weaved gold out of straw quite a few times the past 2 weeks.  That's not a knock on his line, but Black was just that good.

I saw KDKA post things on social media about hosting the game of the week again.  Pretty nice event and idea.  Will this continue after kdka boss man's kid graduates from PR?  I saw he was the only one to get an individual post.  I hope it continues but that stuff makes me doubt it will.

My son is obsessed with college basketball recruiting. Took him to the Allderdice Montour game to check out the sophomore with the Green Bay offer. My son would like to know, If he is a division 1 prospect, how is Rowan Carmichael not at Duke?

Look, recruiting is based a lot of potential. Those guys have all the measurables. If you notice, we didn't pick any of them to Fab 22. Not a knock on them. Good linemen. But maybe not dominant. Doesn't mean they aren't good. I'm not saying they didn't live up to the hype. I did a story on them because of their size. A lot of hype is created by college offers -- and not play on the field. But they have a year left to be dominant. And still a game this year.

John Challis - Freedom High School in 2008. Google him. He became a national story. I cried when I interviewed him. Went to his funeral and cried. Tom Rinaldi from ESPN sat right behind me.

Well it's boys and girls. Not men and women. Kiski boys should be pretty decent I think. I have no idea about the girls. Mars boys have some injuries to overcome but they could be pretty good still.

Ben Hays is a legit college running back at some level, Guesman kid from JM last year is at Cal and Dehoet was really good at JM this year, Canevin apparently is good enough in 1A to have multiple D1 kids, Johnson from Cornell is a D1 kid and CH QB was really solid this year, Laurel has a ton of d2 and d3 kids on that roster, it's not just Sieg and Clairton kids but seems 1A might have more competition than 2A and some really good players, it's not the 1A football of 10-15 years ago?

I never said Class 1A players couldn't make it in college. Heck, look at Tyler Boyd. I just mean just because you might put up big stats at a Class 1A school doesn't mean you are material that colleges are looking for.
