Yes, Central is a good one. It's Canevin, Penn Hills, Mt. Lebanon, Central Catholic. The Butler tourney isn't bad with Erie Prep, Knoch, Butler, Latrobe. Hempfield has some good teams. Tourney at Geneva has some good ones. A possible game Saturday could be Fox Chapel vs. North Hills if both teams win Friday in North Hills tourney. How would you evaluate Lebo’s Eli Heidenreich?  Kid looks like a major talent that has been taking his game to superstar levels as of late.  How do you rate him?

Talked about him above. Love him. So versatile. I think what he's doing, he is now a candidate for player of the year. I think he could player higher than Navy.

Do you see Lincoln park moving up this next cycle? I mean if they play 4a, the season hasnt even started and they know they will be in the Wpial Championship.

First off, Lincoln Park might voluntarily play up in 5A next season. They were supposed to decide that by yesterday. If they elect to stay in Class 4A, they have to go to state semifinals to accumulate enough success points to be moved up to 5A.

Mike you talk about the Quips moving up, but there have been a lot of questions about how Southern Columbia stays in 2A. And considering how great a story it would be if it they won, how do you think Serra Catholic does against that team?

I saw articles and national reports on the shortage of officials in sports such as football and hockey over the last couple of years.  Have you heard anything along those lines with basketball officials in Western PA this upcoming season?  I know quite a few that never came back post COVID.

Not sure. But I know basketball is one sport, according to PIAA, where number of officials is in pretty good shape. Hard thing is getting officials for junior high games after school.

Over the holidays, I enjoy taking in a high school Xmas tournament in the area or one of those Saturdays in January all dayers. Have you had a chance yet to look at schedule  to see if there is an attractive one this year?

What's going on with Vo-tech and PIAA enrollment? Why is this coming out now, have schools be counting these students in past years?

Some schools have been countin Vo-tech students wrong. Hard to explain, but PIAA and WPIAL tried to address it with schools on what to do.

Not a question Mike. Longtime assistant coach to Coach Palko at West A Mark Davis passed away yesterday following a medical emergency. Mark was also the head rugby coach at the school while teaching MS math. Mark was a great mentor, teacher, and coach not to mention father, husband and friend. Rest In Peace Mark.

It is so sad. Mark was such a tremendous guy. Offensive coordinator with Bob Palko in West Allegheny's days with Tyler Palko at QB. It's just a terrible, terrible thing. West Allegheny lost a really good one. He was a teacher also. I must admit. I'm a little upset about it. This says it all about Mark. Bob Palko texted me last night and said, "Dude was the best human being I ever met. He had a gift to make you a better person without you ever knowing until later. It was his gift. RIP Mark Davis."

Your thoughts on how late into December PIAA football championships are played particularly with no domed stadium to play the finals. Any changes you would like to see in playoff calendar?

I just Tweeted about this last night. I just don't think high school football should still be going on Dec. 11, two weeks from Christmas. You can say it only affects 12 teams. That's not the point. It just doesn't make sense to me that high school games are going on beyond the college regular season. Ohio, New York, New Jersey all were done last week. Just start a week earlier.

Mike, we keep hearing about transfers transfers transfers at Quip, but yet no mention of who they are? Is it guilty until proven innocent? What is the PIAA’s definition of “transfer”?

I don't know who they are. And please. It's not guilty until proven innocent. Aliquippa has said they have had three transfers in two years. The exact number? I'm not sure. And do you really need me to give you a definition of a transfer? Maybe it's just me, but I  think it's a student who is at one school and then comes to another school. I know that might be a tough definition to understand, but give it a try.
