I'd have to look who was around from only 2010. But I am doing an occasional series on top 10s from the 2000s in WPIAL and City League. In the future, I will do top 10 coaches since 2000. The top two are easy -- Tim McConnell and Ralph Blundo.

When is the date they have to declare if they are playing in the WPIAL or staying independent?  I guess we'd know how many teams are in each class at that point, including the opt ups like Central and Canevin.
Mike White
11:37
I'm not sure of a date. As I said, some of them want to know what WPIAL will be doing conference wise. But WPIAL CEO Vince Sortino said WPIAL won't be releasing conference alignments until March. So it will be a while.
Time to panic
11:37
USC Boys 4-1 USC Girls 2-2. Time to panic ? lol

Go back to bed.
Enough already

Everyone is going overboard with the Heidenreich/Tezza stuff at Navy. As if they are the first Western Pennsylvania kids to play for a service academy. You can't seriously tell me there haven't been better players from this area that played for Army, Navy or the Air Force
Mike White
11:39
Heck yeah, the WPIAL has had other good players at Army and Navy over the years. Some really good ones. But how about we just enjoy the stories of Heidenreich/Tecza. It is unusual that two from the same school, two close friends, win WPIAL and state titles, go to Navy together and have success. C'mon, man. Can we stop being so negative. It's a neat story. Let it live.

Mike, are you putting in for the NH Football job?  I think you would do better than anyone discussed, and we would take the hill back over.
Mike White
11:41
Ha ha. One thing I will say that the rumors being put out by some on Twitter are absurd. There's a better chance of me being coach of the Boston Celtics than some of these names being thrown against the wall for North Hills job. It's ridiculous.
5a
11:42
Who is the team to beat in 5a
Mike White
11:42
Right now I'd say Char Valley and Lincoln Park.
Beaver County
11:42
I did catch that BF score, I saw some replies as to what the deal is. Essentially I’ll say give it a year and BF will trend upwards!
Mike White
11:43
I hope. That would be nice to see. Good luck to them. There is nowhere to go but up.
Down Beat
11:43
Who is your pick in the WPIAL Competitive Spirit finals?
Mike White
11:44
I'll take the Pittsburgh Spirit with Paul Child and Stan Terlecki.
3A boys
11:44
3A Looks to be really competitive and with mostly public schools! Should be a fun year there. Can Mohawk remain on top?
Mike White
11:46
I really like Mohawk. Mike O'Lare has an underrated team. They're good. I love that Bobby Fadden kid and his story. Five-sport athlete. Should go over 2,000 career points this year. I think Mohawk CAN win it but there are teams on the same level. South Allegheny and Aliquippa come to mind right away.

mt lebo is a bunch of dogs this year in hoops who do you think winning it all in 6a?????? Go blue devils!!!
Mike White
11:47
Mt. Lebanon will be in the chase.
Jus Sayin'
11:47
The vast majority of impact freshman in the WPIAL hoops this year have reclassed. Jus sayin'.
Mike White
11:48
I don't know if they have or haven't. Nowadays, you have to do it before seventh grade.
Mr Ed
11:48
Must have been a really tough decision picking between Wayne Wade or Duke Johncour? I was a little surprised it was Wade but certainly not in a negative way toward him. Just thought Avonworth was more impressive in their WPIAL championship game as the tiebreaker.
Mike White
11:49
Very tough decision. Duke Johncour won it last year. He certainly could've won it again this year, but Wayne Wade was deserving, too. Wayne got the most votes among our high school staff. T.J. Plack was another deserving one and Mike Warfield.

Yay or nay, keep 6 classifications, BUT 1-4A is normal public school 5a is small private schools and 6A is larger. Or make them their own, sounds too good for anyone to agree with but your thoughts? Lol
Mike White
11:51
I've said for years that I don't think separate championships for public and private/parochial/charter schools would be a bad thing. But I don't see it ever happening.
Nostalgic
11:53
Mike - if we can talk FB one last time before moving on - can we get the state championship games back to Hershey.  I know the locker rooms aren't great blah blah blah - but CV has nothing. at least Hershey has history.
Mike White
11:57
Well Nostalgic, I hear you. Hershey does have a nostalgic feel to it. Cumberland Valley is plenty big enough to host it. But I agree that Hershey does have a little special feel to it that Cumberland Valley doesn't have. But these days, it's more than just about nostalgia. I think Cumberland Valley gives the PIAA a sweetheart deal. And the facilities are much better. I don't know what the answer is. But I do know that crowds at Hershey weren't very good, either, in the final decade. They have never been tremendous there, but they have been better than Cumberland Valley. Bottom line is this, and it goes for the WPIAL, too: People just don't go to championships as much as they used to, whether the WPIAL or PIAA.
11:59
And there's the final horn. Thanks to all who participated in this week's chat. Go see a game this weekend - and everyone, have a good week. I'll be back next Tuesday at 11 a.m.
