Sure did. Was at both of them. The 1990 game was memorable. 76-74 Glen Mills. Glen Mills is a reform school and I still remember all of their students coming in at once and taking their seats. And their chant of "Ewww, those battlin Bulls .... ewww those battlin Bulls." And another one I never heard, "Oooops, upside the head .... ooops, upside the head." Although they lost, the 1900 team might have been better with Yancey Taylor and Brian Miller (played football at Penn State). The 1995 team had Mike Horan (didn't he go to Fairfield?). And one of the great player names of all time Czar Walsh. If Walsh doesn't make a half court shot at buzzer in quarterfinals against Erie Prep, Ringgold doesn't make it to even semifinals. Ringgold beat Prep in double OT.

Hey Mike, Happy Holidays.  I’ll just get to the point. Joey David is the greatest basketball coach since…
Mike White
11:49
Joey deserves his props. I've always said that. There are some other good ones around, too, but he's up there with the best. Has Lebo off to a great start. Looks like they can really shoot it.

Good Morning, who is your favorite to come out of 6A in Girls Basketball?
Mike White
11:50
I like Norwin right now. Never count out NA. Peters looks good, too.

Hi Mike, I used to absolutely love the All WPIAL University Teams that you guys used to put together.  An imaginary college football team made up of former WPIAL Players this past season in college.  Outside of the Pitt players I think you'd have to go outside of D1 football to find some positions.  I was thinking Jake Pugh of W&J at QB since he totally tore it up this year......who all would be on your team?
Mike White
11:51
I'd really have to think. I agree with you in that migth have to go outside FBS to find enough guys deserving. Honestly, I can't do it off the top of my head. Much harder to do because we don't have as many guys making big impacts at FBS schools.

name the players Schenley or any of those other ancient teams played that had players on the level of the Morris twins.  No way they were as good as Schenley?   I told you they only lost by two points and that was with Pope on the bench.  One team had to play the Morris twins in the final, the other got that buffoon Nasir Robinson who flubbed the game against Butler in the NCAA's who would you rather play against?
Mike White
11:53
And I'm telling you there was no way Aliquippa was as good as Schenley 2007 team. No way. Blair was better than Pope. Kennedy was better than anyone else Quippa had. Kane was better than any Quippa guard. And Onion was the best point guard. What else do you want me to say.
Better coaching
11:53
The Steelers and Eagles have more losses in December than Aliquippa's Seniors had in 4 years. Should Aliquippa's coaching staff take over either team ?
Mike White
11:54
Yes, rumor has it that Mike Warfield has been hanging around Rooney's office a lot the past week. It's pretty easy to go from coaching high school to NFL, don't ya think?
The next level
11:54
Saw a thing the other about Gerry Faust coaching at Notre Dame after having been a coach of Moeller HS. Which WPIAL coach, past or present do you think could coach a D1 program and unlike him, actually succeed ?
Mike White
11:54
I don't think any high school coach can go from high school to being a Division I college coach and succeed right away. No way.
nutsack
11:54
Do you see montour football team getting bounced out of the parkway conference to help even out the mars/highlands/indiana etc conference?
Mike White
11:55
No idea. Never try to predict WPIAL conference realignments.

Following up on the comment about Major Harris - who are a couple of WPIAL/City League kids that were "born too soon" and you would love to see playing today with the way offense has changed.
Mike White

Sam Clancy in football as Hback.

Last year you had Westinghouse as the overall team of the year.  They didn't win a state title, why were they the pick?
Mike White
11:57
Because we throught they were. You don't have to win a state title to be the team of the year. They captured the attention of this city and almost won it all. A City team to turn things around like they did? C'mon, man.

“Great teams don't lose games that way”, Mike, love your columns! Speaking of losing that way and the 2007 Aliquippa team, weren’t they up 14/15 points with 5 minutes to go if I remember? Kept taking ill-advised shots and missing free throws. Pope fouled out with a couple minutes left as well. Tough one to lose for those guys. Also remember them having some epic games against Jeannette that season as well.
Mike White
11:57
You got it. I think Jon Baldwin was 7 of 27 that game.
Kiski Kid
11:58
Mike, How impressive has Kiski been?  Doing this without Thimons too.  Any word on his injury and when he'll be back?  This team is good!  Loaded!
Mike White
11:58
I said before season Kiski Area is good. Sleeper team in 5A. I know nothing about injuries.

11:58
New to the area & looking for a good Christmas Tournament to go to with top teams, players, & matchups. Give me a recommendation.
Mike White
11:59
Look earlier in the chat. Four games at PPG Paints on Dec. 27. Lincoln Park vs. North Catholic in finale. Lincoln Park has Pitt recruit Brandin Cummings and Meleek Thomas, rated No. 7 junior in country.

Where is Coach Z?  he sure did love media attention when he was with the Quips, I would love to hear his thoughts on the Quips now
Mike White
12:00
Mike Zmijanac didn't seek media attention. Never. You don't know him if you think that. He and Aliquippa got attention because they won so much. Just like Mike Warfield and Aliquippa get attention now. When you win a lot, you get a lot of attention. Simple as that.

Nice to see the Wetzel kid pick up a couple of Power 5 offers... More to come???
Mike White
12:00
Possibly.

12:01
Pope was a higher rated recruit than Blair, you had him as player of the year when both were juniors.  Baldwin had higher offers than any other player on Schenley, would've had more if not for football.  Reddick was just as good as Kane at the time or this "Onion" character.  I'm telling you Mike they were the best trust me
Mike White
12:03
Who cares about ratings. No way most people would take Pope over Blair. Baldwin had one offer - to Marquette. And that went away. Might have had couple other smaller ones. You're wrong. Kennedy had number of offers. Sean Miller wanted him and Blair at Xavier. You're nuts if you think Reddick was as good as Kane, and that was proven out. Done talking about this.
Paula Abdul
12:03
why couldn't you get Brian Batko or Terry Shields to do the podcast with you?
Mike White
12:03
Because I don't want to.
Hoop it up
12:03
Is canevins glory run over this year with basketball?
Mike White
12:03
You won't be seeing Canevin making any playoff runs. Just sayin'.
Hoops Guy

Any time frame on when the PG is going have the back history of games/years section to the website?
Mike White
12:04
Hands are tied. It's up to our IT people. I wish it were back, too.

Saw Courtney Wallace jr. At central last week. Is the kid of the original Courtney Wallace (Perry). This kid seems like he will be a threat at the college level. Heard he had 30 points and 15 rebounds against Clairton last night.
Mike White
12:04
Courtney Wallace is certainly a Division I prospect. Yes, his father played at Perry and Duquesne.
Pops
12:05
I also watch Avonworth play at LaRoche.  Carmichael is the opposite of James.  A ton of basketball ability but not much in terms of raw strength and athleticism. Where is he being recruited?  What level can he succeed with that body?
