Any thoughts on wrestling championships this weekend?
Mike White
11:36
Check for foreign objects from Lou Albano and Bruno might jump off the turnbuckle at George "The Animal."

Do you think carmody is overrated
Mike White
11:40
Not at all. What is overrated?? He's one of the most versatile guards to come out of here in recent years. Very athletic, strong, can do a lot of things. At times, the 3-point shot isn't tremendous, but that can improve and sometimes he shoots 3 very well. I don't know if people realize how good he really is.

What possible school merger would you like to see from a athletics POV?  Clairton-TJ? StoRox-Montour? Jeanette-Hempfield? Aliquippa-Hopewell?
Mike White
11:42
I don't know how to answer one that I would like to see happen. Mergers are tough but sometimes they make the most sense - not for athletics, but just for schools. All of the four you mentioned would certainly be interesting, especially Clairton-TJ in football.

What’s your take on penn Hills girls basketball coach also WPA-Bruins coach posiiblble coaching college has sent numerous girls to division 1 schools over the past 3 years
Mike White
11:45
You're talking Robert Cash? I have no idea if he wants to coach college.  Just because you coach AAU and a few of your players go Division I doesn't mean you want to go to college. And it doesn't mean you'd be a good college coach. You go from being a high school head coach to assistant in college whose main thing would be recruiting. If you want to be a college coach, main thing at some point is whether you can get recruits. Totally different world than coaching high school.

Wouldn’t be surprised if McKeesport boys make a deep run in playoffs this year, or Laurel Highlands. All 5 Laurel Highlands starters can score not just Laskey. They do struggle on defense though.
Mike White
11:46
McKeesport is definitely sleeper team. Looks like they are going to win section. Laskey has been terrific for LH, averaging around 34. But Laurel Highlands can't seem to beat the good teams.

Mike, I know there was an article not too long ago, but your personal opinion, if you were the sole person to decide on a shot clock in PIAA basketball? A little drama over the weekend between coaches and the media over a D10 girls team going up 8 and holding the ball for the last 4:30 of the 3RD Q because the WPIAL team wouldn't come out and play them man. I believe you could look at this situation 2 ways..
Mike White
11:48
I would vote for a shot clock. Would help situations like this. However, with the rules the way they are now, you can't blame a coach for doing this type of thing if that's what he thinks he has to do to win. You may not like it, but ...

That was a real jem you tweeted about referee who ended UCLA streak.  I often wonder about some of those guys with the stripes.
Mike White
11:49
You're talking about Dwight Clay, Fifth Avenue proud who played at Notre Dame and made the shot to end UCLA's streak. I still remember where I was in 1974 watching that game. Had just finished a grade school game at Butler Catholic and was watching it on a black and white TV in my room at my house. LOL

I see the point of reducing 1A football playoffs from 16 to 8 teams, but I'm going to say that WPIAL will hold firm with 16 b/c of 1) a gate is a gate and why throw out four gate$ and 2) while seeds 13-16 are rarely competitive, seeds 9-12 are another story. Sacrificing seed 9 b/c of historic weakness of 13-16 doesn't sit well with me...but who am I ?!? Also, with three conferences, you'd have to pick two wildcard teams to fill out a field of 8. Just my 2 cents.
Mike White
11:51
Well, WPIAL Lifer, you make good points. I also don't know if WPIAL will cut CLass A field. Maybe they go with 12 and have byes???  As for wild cards, WPIAL has had them for a number of years.

North Hills basketball this year... what's going on?
Mike White
11:52
Down year. Were very competitive through most of year, but have gone downhill last week or so. Beating Butler the way they did is still one of the major surprises.

Dwight Clay is still around and as things happen he is now a high school referee.  Saw him at the Mt Lebo - Canon Mac game last week
Mike White
11:53
Yes, that was what gentleman was talking about earlier. I tweeted a picture of him from that game.
11:54
OK, that's it for this week. Might have to go shovel snow. Back next Tuesday at 11. Everyone, be good.
