That's hard to do. Not like these places have 5,000 seats. You put one team's fans on one side and the other team's on the other side. You starting trying to put a line down the middle and have both team's fans on one side, you might have a bigger problem. no need to.

30 out of 155 teams in this years boys and girls WPIAL basketball tournament are parochial or public charter schools. Some feel that these schools should be separated from traditional public schools. Your thoughts?

Do you think Pine Richland can be as good (not go as far, be as good) as last year's team?  Seems to be a good strategy if the game is tight late against PR would be to put their bigs on the line.

I like P-R's chances. In fact, if I had to pick a 6-A favorite right now, I'd pick P-R. Are they as good as last year? I think the playoffs will determine that. I really like the improvement and play of Dan Petcash, especially.

Mike, not sure I've ever seen the trend that I am seeing this year, teams cutting down the net when they win a section championship.  I feel we are really over doing the celebrations now, its a section championship, not a WPIAL or PIAA championship! It should be the expectation, not the end game. Thoughts???

Depends on the school. If you haven't won a section title in maybe 30 years, why not? Even though I might not do it. But hey, let the kids have some fun. But if you've won section titles in recent years, I'd say no.

Mike, do you believe the Classes that have first round byes will have a similar schedule to last season? I.E. most teams with a first round bye had a 10-11 day layoff

Pairings come out tonight, Yes, I bet some teams that finished regular season last Friday will have as much as a two-week layoff. It is what it is. Some coaches have suggested let the regular season go a few days longer and cram the playoffs together more. There is not an easy way to do this.

Butler beats PR. PR beats Central and Central beats Butler. I know, I know you believe any team could win it all but the favorite could should and would be PR. Is there any team in the other conferences that could hold against the northern teams. Lebo? Latrobe?

No way Pine-Richland deserves No. 1 seed. They didn't win section. I know Jurkovec missed some and Kristofic missed some. But they still didn't win the section. Central did. I believe Pine is the favorite. Doesn't mean they should be No. 1 seed.

Mr. White, do you think its time to get rid of the antiquated system of the Basketball Playoff Pairings meeting? Brackets were completed yesterday, why have teams all meet a night later to find out who they will play. With online film, shouldn't they just release them online at 9pm on Monday? The football meeting in the fall was very under attended, I will be curious to see if tonight is the same

Yes and no. I agree they could've released brackets last night. But there is some housekeeping things sometimes that it's nice to have everyone there. Like ticket packages, giving each team playoff basketballs. Plus, they hand out section championship plaques. But I agree, the brackets could be released on line. But then coaches couldn't complain to Tim O'Malley face to face.

First off, WPAsports fan, there are 5 teams or so in Class A. Monessen, VIncentian have to be the top two choices. But don't forget Union. They beat Vincentian. Clairton not bad, either. And I don't know what to think of Propel, Eden and Imani. They tied for section title. And remember, Imani was in championship last year.

It seems like it. The win against McKeesport last Friday might have done it. FR and Highlands tied for section title, but beating McKeesport might have put FR over the top.

I'm guessing the only people who know are the ones in the room but any idea what caused the CWNC coaching issue?  My feeling is disgruntled parents and the AD jumped the gun on a suspension.  If something really bad happened he wouldn't have been back so soon.

Apparently some kind of issue with a player. But it's over with now. Coach Long is back. Will he be there next season??? That's a good question.

Well I'm going to say in Western Pa. and I think it just might be Allderdice. As far as WPIAL, that's a tough call. I wouldn't feel comfortable saying one team is the best. I don't think one stands out.

Mike, a couple weeks ago there was discussion regarding instituting a shot clock in high school.  What do you think of the alternatives of the 4 points shot line at 30 feet (I saw that the Globetrotters are doing this) and/or re-instituting the 35 foot line and rule to speed up the game?  Both would be a lot less costly.

I think free throws should be worth 5 points, 3-pointers seven and half court shots 10. Let's just totally lose our minds. ... But I do think shot clock is a good idea.

Will the WPIAL avoid having Franklin and highlands play in the semis because of the malae that went on last game?

Good question, but I don't think it should. It wasn't like Monessen-Clairton. And if you are going to do true seedings, I think they should be 2 and 3.

You mention Propel (Andrew Street) in Class A. It’s only their 2nd year in the WPIAL and already have back-to-back playoff appearances and now a co-section championship. Head Coach and former West Mifflin HS standout Christopher Giles is building something special over there, wouldn’t you say?
