Why not have Fox Chapel in the north and Central in the east for 6A?
Mike White
11:35
Good question. But WPIAL hasn't done it that way in a while. Like I said before, Fox Chapel has made it known that it doesn't want to play in the North? Why? Not sure.

Hey mike, who do you see winning, monessen or Imani?
Mike White
11:35
Again, I'll take Monessen.

Mike, what do you know about the  Khori Fusco kid from Clairton ? I seen on his AAU teams twitter account he had a unofficial visit to Div1 Mt St Mary’s last week. My son played with him in 8th grade at TJ he was unstoppable at football and basketball. In 9th grade seen him on TV at Heinz field making catches in the wpial title game.  Just thought at Clairton he would take the football route.
Mike White
11:37
Very good player. Underrated. He's a junior guard. One of better junior guards around. He gave up football. Why? Not sure. It is unusual someone at Clairton giving up football to concentrate on basketball. But good for him if that's his passion.
11:38
I would imagine you're asking Union boys vs. Eden Christian??? I like Union. Sleeper team in Class A.
WWH
11:38
In response to FAN  The teams remaining in playoffs are permitted to scrimmage other teams that are stillalive.  Sewickley Academy, with a bye, scrimmaged Woodland Hills and Quaker Valley -both with byes-in a three team scrimmage on Monday. Not exactly sitting for 12 - 15 days.
Mike White
11:39
Exactly. Two Number 1 seeds also scrimmaged - Mt. Lebanon and Quaker Valley. I know scrimmages still aren't the same as a game. But don't use bye as an excuse.

back to the the 6A inconsistencies for basketball playoffs...you ask what's wrong is 66% of boys teams qualify for playoffs, yet 50% of girls qualify for playoffs?...you don't see the inequity? I'm not suggesting making a 3rd section of 6A girls, but how about 5 teams per section making playoffs..That's 62.5% of teams making, still lower than boys, but closer...
Mike White
11:42
Tell your athletic director to take the idea to WPIAL.

I see the Bridgers making a good run at the championship I know they lost a lot of games towards the end but it was only by a few points I say they beat deer lakes and belle Vernon easy and then it’ll be another close one with new castle but I see them winning that matchup again what’re your thoughts?
Mike White
11:44
I don't know what to think of Ambridge. Sometimes I think they are one of the top 3-4 teams and then other times I wonder about them. They seem to be one of those teams that it wouldn't be surprising to see them in championship, but it wouldn't be surprising to see them go out in quarterfinals. I think a lot will depend on how they shoot it.

When’s allderdice play??
Mike White
11:45
Friday most likely against McDowell. Extremely tough game. McDowell has one of the best freshmen in state. William Jeffress, 6-6, averaging 21 a game.
Hugh Jass
11:45
What do you think about Randy Cosgrove being hired as the AD at Bishop Canevin ?
Mike White
11:45
I don't really have any thoughts about it.
Doug
11:46
Why are parents so involved with the game it’s actually ruining sports let the coaches coach and the players play I’m tired of seeing it
Mike White
11:46
Because they don't understand - and never will. There are a lot of good sports parents out there, but the knucklehead ones are more and more.
Ralph
11:47
Any idea when allderdice will play?
Mike White
11:47
Friday

Do you like Vincentian as the favorite in 1A?
Mike White
11:47
Them and Monessen.

5A football gets 16 playoff spots from a pool of 24. 1A gets 8 from a pool of 23. Agreed that seeds 13-16 are not competitive, but different story with 9-10 seeds especially. Case in point: Union (9) defeated Ft. Cherry (8) this season. My vote would've been for 12, but it is what it is. All I can say is 5A games between top 4 and bottom 4 seeds better be competitive or else WPIAL will be applying a different standard for small schools vs bigger schools.
Mike White
11:48
I agree. Twelve would've been nice. But it's like I said earlier. WPIAL WANTS four games at Heinz. If they take 12 or 16 to Class 1A playoffs, they wouldn't be able to have championship at Heinz. Heinz drives a lot of this stuff.

Top 3 players in class of 21'?
Mike White

Not even going there.

Your opinion has BBall Officiating got better or worse?  Has BBall Coaches' conduct gotten better or worse? I think officiating has been pretty solid and while Coaching conduct is getting better it still needs some work.
Mike White
11:51
I think it's what it always has been. Good officiating and bad officiating. Been that way for decades. And coaches getting upset has been that way for decades. I remember covering games in 1980s, coaches would fly off the handle. It's the complaining from the fans that is the all time worst. Every call. And I think I heard for the 20,000th time last week a fan say, "Hey ref, you're missing a good game." Woooo hooo. Tremendous. So original.

11:52
Penn Hills not getting a bye is a joke.  They beat Fox Chapel, Woody High, Latrobe, Allderdice and twice beat Lincoln park.  No other 6A team has that many quality wins
Mike White
11:54
I don't have a problem with it. They finished tied for second in section. Fox Chapel played better down the stretch. Who would you bump out of a bye then??? You can say they deserved a bye. That's easy to say. But seriously, who do you bump??? The only one you can debate would be Fox Chapel because they tied in section. I think Pine-Richland has a case for getting a bye maybe even before Penn Hills.

do you see the wpial eventually going back to two officials.  Shortage of refs, shortage of good refs. Two did a good job when the teams were very good back in the day.
Mike White
11:55
No way. Hard enough for three. That would make no sense. I agree there is a shortage of officials but going back to two I don't think would make matters better.

Crazy question, but is there any chance the first level seats will be available at the Pete for the WPIAL title games? It's a great venue but the fans are so far above the action b/c they pull in the sections across from the court level luxury boxes.
Mike White
11:56
They were available last year. But they cost more money than other seats and are available only through Pitt. But they were available last year.
Simon
11:56
Do you think Allderdice can go all the way?
Mike White
11:57
Win the state? No. Make it to the final? I would say they have a chance but won't be easy. Remember, you have to beat an eastern team in semifinals.
Alex
11:58
Hi Mike. Do you think the WPIAL football will go back to a 16 team playoff in class A? I feel 8 is a big disadvantage for a lot of schools.
Mike White
11:58
Not for the next two years. They just decided this. After two years, they will look at it.
11:59
OK. Good stuff. We'll do this again next week at 11 on Tuesday. Maybe see you at a game. Be good.
