Sure, I can see it. Belt goes home to Texas, reunited with his longtime manager. Shares time with Lowe at 1B/DH.

Would rangers go a 5th year for Carlos  Rodon at 35 million per year?
Steve Adams
1:43
I don't think anyone's going that high. A five-year deal for Rodon would have to top out around $150MM, I think.

Mitch Garver's bat seems shaky to be bandied about as getting regular DH AB's. He also seems like a shaky health risk to be considered a C.  Is he really worth the $5m or so cost that accompanies his last pre FA contract?
Steve Adams
1:46
At his best, Garver is one of the best hitters in MLB against left-handed pitching and is somewhere around a decent defensive catcher. He's a career .260/.354/.520 hitter against lefties, and that includes a 2021 season where he was terrible against them (and injured for a good portion of the time while he was playing).

Do you see the Rangers finalizing their rotation via FA or trade?
Steve Adams
1:47
Can I choose "one of each"?

Ronald Acuna Jr to Texas for prospects starting with Jack Leiter ?
Steve Adams
1:49
1. The Braves aren't going to trade Acuna. 2. If they did (and again, they will not), they'd need to be getting immediate MLB help back (and probably dumping like, all of Ozuna/Rosario's contract on someone in addition to prominent MLB-ready talent).

Could the rangers trade Jung for SP and sign trea turner and convince him to play 3B?
Steve Adams
1:51
Turner wouldn't be my pick of the bunch too play 3B. Correa would. But I suppose you could push Seager to 3B and play Turner at SS. Regardless, I don't think the Rangers are going to spend another nine figures on another infielder this winter.
1:52
Even if they trade Jung as part of a package for a high-end starter AND they're willing to give out another nine-figure deal, I'd just give that nine-figure deal to Rodon, deGrom or Verlander.

Martin Perez accepting the QO: win-win for player and organization?
Steve Adams
1:53
Definitely a win for Perez. I think it's an overpay for the team, but they're not going to be close to the luxury tax, and just because he's playing at 1/19 right now doesn't mean they can't still revisit multi-year talks and come to terms on a three-year deal at a lower rate.

If Rangers traded for MadBum and his entire contract could they get a player like Jake McCarthy along with him? What would Texas have to give up?
Steve Adams
1:57
If the Rangers want Jake McCarthy, they could acquire him without having to take on the $37MM still owed to Bumgarner. Bumgarner shouldn't be viewed as an upgrade for the rotation, and the asking price on a guy like Jake McCarthy isn't going to be high to the point where it'll significantly deplete the Rangers' system.

Rangers pitching talk has all been Rodon and deGrom, what about Eflin?
Steve Adams
1:58
I'm not big on Eflin, who has openly discussed his chronic knee problems in the past, but I know he has some bigger fans out there. Tim Dierkes and Anthony Franco both liked him a lot more than me when we were talking about our Top 50 rankings. Kiley McDaniel at ESPN put down three years and (I think) $39MM as a prediction for him.

If Eflin joins Perez as a mid-rotation addition behind a bigger-name pickup, that's fine, but he shouldn't be a primary focus for Chris Young & Co.

Lots of talk about Pablo Lopez getting traded, what's a realistic package for the Rangers to offer?
Steve Adams
2:04
I'd start by seeing how much Miami likes Leody Taveras. (I'm not a huge Leody guy, but hey, if they think he can be a good everyday CF, that's a start)

That said, I think you're generally looking at trade packages with three to four young players, some at or very near the Majors. Taveras, Jung, Huff, Harris -- Texas has position players who'll appeal to Miami.

I don't love predicting a very specific trade package, because those are always pure guesswork and conjecture. If you sent them one MLB-ready big league position player and two to three prospects -- to the point where the names you were giving up made you not want to do it -- you're probably in the ballpark.

Lopez's value is at its apex, there aren't a ton of obvious SP trade candidates this winter, and demand will be high.

Does Dunning have value as a center piece for a trade for an ace?
Steve Adams
2:04
He has value as a present fourth/fifth starter. He doesn't have the value you described, no.

would you bring back Hanser on a 2 year deal for insurance in case Jung is not ready? Do you like Franco at 3rd for 2 years?
Steve Adams
2:05
As in Hanser Alberto and Maikel Franco? I don't think either's getting a Major League deal this winter, let alone two years.

2:05
I'd be fine with a package of Tavares and Co. for Lopez or Rogers of the Marlins
Steve Adams
2:06
I'm sure the Rangers would, too. The "and Co." part is where it'd have to hurt a lot more than Taveras. I just mentioned him because Miami is in dire need of center field help, and if they see Taveras as a viable everyday option, he'd be a starting point.

Any chance Rangers take on all of Yelich’s contract with a Burnes/Woodruff?  Eating 26M/year for 6 more years lowers the return?
Steve Adams
2:10
No one's taking on six years and $162.5MM of Yelich, PLUS the $26-28MM Burnes or Woodruff might command, just to get two years of Woodruff. Even if you like Yelich as a rebound candidate, a team just won't take on roughly $190MM over a six-year term when the primary goal is to get two years of one starting pitcher.

2:11
Yeah the "Co." part would have to hurt but context means everything. I'm not sending Leiter, Rocker, White, Acuna, Carter, Porter, even Winn. Any two of Foscue, Huff, Harris, Roby, Ornelas is painfully enough.
Steve Adams
2:12
That's my point. If you're offering Taveras and then taking the entire group you said off the table, I don't see Lopez as all that viable. The demand is going to be huge for him. Someone will top that offer, and if not, Miami could probably hold him and still get a better deal next summer.
