Are you concerned about Shane Bieber's performance? Strikeouts are down, walks are up, and velo is down
Simon Hampton
10:45
Velo looks fine to me. Some movement in strikeouts and walks but not enough to be concerned just yet. Something to keep an eye on though.

I mean, Gerrit Cole's strikeouts are well down this year but he's doing alright
Mitch
10:46
Yankees calling up Bauers tonight? Bader back next week. If Judge does not hit the DL , who will be the next guy released by the Yankees?
Simon Hampton
10:47
I think the fact the Yankees are playing an infielder hitting .163 with no power  in center over Aaron Hicks tells you all you need to know about where the latter sits in their plans. Got a feeling he'l be on the way out as soon as there's any sort of roster crunch in the outfield
Tom
10:47
Do you think the Cardinals will turn things around and still win the NL Central?
Simon Hampton
10:48
Think the Brewers are too good to forfeit this lead (over the Cardinals at least), and think they'll wind up at the top of the Central.

How’s your team doing in the NFL draft so far? (Assuming you have a favorite team)
Simon Hampton
10:49
Seahawks - loved their draft
Walton Dilcox
10:50
Would the A’s trade Brent Rooker?
Simon Hampton
10:53
Think the A's would listen on anyone - although it'd be a tough pill to swallow for a team that has very few positives.

But you look at that roster and who is really bringing back anything significant in trades? If Rooker is still hitting like this at the deadline he may well be their best path to getting back the young talent they need to rebuild.

Of course if Oakland truly feel Rooker is legit, they'd be better off holding him until the end of the season when he'll have a bigger track record of success and fetch a lot more in a trade. One to watch for sure though

Shane Bieber's velo is down. In 2020 he was topping out at 96. 2021 it was 95. 2022 it's was 93 and now in 2023 it's 92.
Simon Hampton
10:55
Well yeah, but I took the question to be down from last year. Fastball velo was 91.5 last year per Fangraphs, and it's 91.5 this year.

He also threw 200 innings of 2.88 ERA ball last year with that reduced velo from earlier in his career

Am voting for Kevin Long as Ultimate Bat Whisperer! First Marsh and now Pache. Apparently hitting coaches do stuff?
Simon Hampton
10:56
You can add Tim Laker to this list for his work with Kelenic
Soto
11:00
I’ve got a feeling I’m going to be on the move at the deadline again, if it were to happen where do you think I’ll land? Yankees?
Simon Hampton
11:00
The Padres are definitely not trading Soto
Your Name
11:01
In regards to Bellinger, how far out of the division would the Cubs need to be to sell? Seems if they hang around .500 you might as well hang onto him, take your chances at a playoff run, and get a comp pick. The Cubs have made it through the toughest part of their 1st half schedule.
Simon Hampton
11:03
If the Cubs are in that position I sort of expect them to be in - maybe a handful of games back of a Wildcard spot, I suspect they'll listen on guys like Bellinger. Not saying they'll trade him, but if there's enough demand that the return is significant I think they'd be foolish to hold onto him just for an outside chance at a playoff spot
Brewers, Guardians & Rays
11:05
Why don’t we ever go all in? We all got pitching, is it ownership? GM’s? please don’t say finances
Simon Hampton
11:06
I know it's kind of frustrating, because none of them have won it all, but the Brewers have been really good since about 2017, the Rays since 2018 and the Guardians since about 2013.

I would love nothing more than for those teams to spend more but they model they have gives them the best chance at a sustained amount of success, even if there year-to-year odds of winning a ring are probably a little diminished as a result
Mike
11:07
would the yanks take a chance on madbum and move clarke to pen
Simon Hampton
11:09
A lot of questions on the Yankees, Rangers and others taking on Bumgarner.

He may be worth a shot on a minor league deal but those numbers in Arizona this year are really tough and the velo is well down so I'd have big reservations about just plugging him into a big league rotation.

11:09
Why not trade Soto? Aside from the "egg on face" aspect of the trade, wouldn't the Padres be better off recouping a little bit of value while they can? Soto might benefit from a change of scenery...for whatever reason it's not working for him in SD.
Simon Hampton
11:10
Buying at the peak of his value and then trading when his stock is way down is a bad idea.

The guy is uber talented, there's every chance he turns this around. Imagine the backlash if they sold low on him now and he found his groove for another team?
Handful more then we'll wrap it
M's fan
11:12
I want to give the M's a longer leash after turning their season around the past 2 seasons and winning 90 games...but I'm starting to get angry. How bad does it look for us?
Simon Hampton
11:14
Lineup has been poor this year. There's more than enough there to turn things around, and I reckon they'll be active in adding to that offense at the deadline.
Mike
11:15
Will the Angels be "stuck" in limbo and hold onto Ohtani to chase a rare  (possibly futile) playoff appearance? Dodgers, Mets and Mariners seem like logical free agency landing spots...but the Angels probably won't want to trade him to either the Mariners or Dodgers.
Simon Hampton
11:15
Writing off the Angels far too early - they're 14-13 in a competitive division. Far more likely to add around Ohtani than they are to sell. Think they'd have to be a long way out of it to sell
Allen
11:17
Are the Twins contenders? Or am I a homer?
Simon Hampton
11:19
Oh the Twins are absolutely a contender
Tomswid
11:19
Pirates for real or too early?
Simon Hampton
11:20
Me and Anthony had a good yarn about this on the podcast this week while discussing Reynolds' extension. Contenders? Maybe not. Better than expected? Certainly.
Raysing doubts
11:23
Rays have beat up on bottom tier teams but dropped series to Houston and Toronto. Another first round playoff exit?
Simon Hampton
11:24
Ha, they definitely had a soft schedule to start the season but you don't go 22-5 by accident. They're a good team, and expect them to be right up there at the business end of the season

Have panang curry on the menu to watch the Phils today. As they will officially climb out of 4th and into the playoff hunt. Any news on the Harper front...?
Simon Hampton
11:27
Nice choice, more of a Massaman guy myself but rate the Panang.

Harper taking BP with the team in Houston this weekend, so that's certainly promising as far as his return goes
11:29
Alright gotta wrap this up now. Thanks to everyone that submitted questions and sorry to those that I didn't get to. You can hit me up on Twitter @simonmhampton
