The Royals are looking for bullpen help, there's the Matheny connection. I'd have them as my pick, I guess

Would an above average player today be the best player in baseball if he took a time machine to 1950?
Anthony Franco
5:00
Yeah I think he would by a decent margin
Will

Severino was an ace his last two full healthy seasons. Aren't people sleeping on the Yankees rotation, should they actually be healthy??
Anthony Franco
5:01
They could be really good, but there's a significant amount of downside given the injury history of all those guys. One of the higher-variance units around

How do all the writers at MLBTR divvy up assignments in this slow period?  Do the staff come up with their own ideas?  Must be a challenge no?
Anthony Franco
5:02
For the most part, there's only one of us manning the site at any given time. So when it's your shift, you just have to come up with something to write about
5:03
It is challenging, yeah, particularly as the foreign league and minor league signings dried up over the past couple weeks

Who do you like from our young arms? Brash, Kirby, Hancock?
Anthony Franco
5:04
All three (and Williamson too) but Kirby in particular
5:05
I was at Brash's last college start. Thought he was an alright fifth/sixth starter type but didn't expect the kind of rise he's had since he's been drafted
Alex

Do you have any recommendations of books, blogs, authors, newsletters, etc. for learning more about sabermetrics?
Anthony Franco
5:07
I believe Keith Law's "Smart Baseball" kind of takes this stuff on from the beginning if you're completely unfamiliar. I basically developed my familiarity with this kind of stuff through reading FanGraphs regularly
5:09
Eno Sarris at the Athletic completely changed the way I understand pitching with how well he explains how spin/movement data interacts with pitch results
Matt Harvey

Any chance the Dark Knight has a comeback in his career? Or is he done?
Anthony Franco
5:09
I think he'll get another minor league deal but I've long since given up hope that he's finding his 2013 form again
Hello Arte and Perry
5:10
You just ranked the Angels rotation near the bottom. I want to ensure Arte and Perry saw this. Angels fans universally concur with your assessment.
Anthony Franco
5:11
Ha, I actually like the Angels rotation. Hopefully for your sake, Moreno and Minasian didn't read my most recent Front Office post where I argued that the rotation's actually pretty good and middle infield's the problem in Anaheim
The AL West just has good rotations

Would Tyler Mahle get me get me Riley Greene or Jordan Lawler?
Anthony Franco
5:12
I don't think the Tigers would give up Greene. Lawlar seems like a fine ask in a vacuum but I doubt Arizona's being that aggressive after the season they just had
5:13
Alright everyone, we're pushing two hours and I have to get some stuff up on the site
There were a bunch of really strong questions this week. As always, couldn't get to all of them with around 600 people in here at peak
5:14
I also run chats every Friday for Front Office subscribers that have significantly smaller queues, so you're far more likely to get your question answered in those
If that's of interest, here's a link to our Memberships
You can also reach me on Twitter @affranco10 during the week with questions
We should have player chats in each of the next two days, and I'll conduct another one next week
Have a good week!
