Hey everyone, hope you're all having a good evening
Going to let people trickle in for another minute and then we'll get rolling
Guardians 4 Life
6:34
What bigger name pitchers could be available in trades this offseason?? Woodruff?? Lopez?? Burnes?? Rogers?? etc…
Anthony Franco
6:34
Yeah I think either of the Brewers guys could go. They won't trade both, but I wouldn't be surprised if they deal one while they're kind of at peak trade value as the costs escalate
6:35
I think López goes in a deal that gets Miami some offense. There'll at least be whispers on Bieber but I'm more skeptical he moves. Houston could deal Urquidy or Luis Garcia
Nats
6:35
Will the Nats aggressively try and resign Kiebert Ruiz and CJ Abrams like the Braves have done?
Anthony Franco
6:36
Could see them kicking the idea around with Abrams in particular, but neither Keibert nor Abrams has proven much at the MLB level the way all the Braves guys have. Don't think it's a perfect comparison
Les Gomez
6:36
I get the Mets wanting to hold their prospects, but if they could pull of an Ohtani for Alvarez and Allan or a Baty and Dom Smith for Devers, how do you pass that up?
Darkside830
6:36
Could you see Ohtani or Trout getting traded? The Angels are falling apart. They probably want to get out. I can’t see Rendon getting traded because of his last 2 seasons, and that awful contract. Ohtani and Trout deserve to be in the playoffs, and I don’t think the Angles know how to do that.
Anthony Franco
6:37
A bunch of Ohtani trade questions in here. These two are just representative of it. I'd be shocked if the Angels traded him this offseason
6:38
Same with Trout. As for the Devers suggestion, I don't believe Baty is enough even for one year of Devers. Dom Smith doesn't move the needle at all. He's probably getting non-tendered
Yankee hater in NYC
6:38
Any chance Yankees have vs. Houston ?
Anthony Franco
6:39
Of course. Any playoff team can win a seven-game series. The Yankees are slight underdogs but I don't think it's more than, say, 55-45
Tony
6:39
I don't expect the Cards to pursue Wilson (maybe why I am typing this and not actually in Mo's space) but do think they would be interested in trading for Murphy. Do you think a trade can be made?
Anthony Franco
6:39
Yeah I agree. Giving up a draft pick to sign a bat-first catcher like Contreras doesn't feel very Cardinals to me. I think they're likelier to swing a trade for catching help and would consider them among the strongest fits for Murphy
6:41
He'd cost a lot but STL has the kind of upper level position player talent that should appeal to the A's. Burleson, Gorman, Masyn Winn. Oakland wouldn't get all three of those guys but pulling two from that group for three years of Murphy wouldn't be a crazy ask
Tom
6:41
Great idea on the off-season chats! Are you doing any?
Anthony Franco
6:42
Yeah we're divvying them up based on which team's offseason outlooks we're responsible for. I'll make up Cincinnati, Colorado and Arizona at some point and do the others in conjunction with the rest of the outlooks as they drop
Cardinals in the next day or two probably
Hazen
6:43
You keep Thomas or McCarthy to upgrade elsewhere?
Anthony Franco
6:44
Think the D-Backs should be open to offers on both those guys if it nets them controllable starting pitching or infield help. I still lean towards McCarthy being a high-end fourth outfielder rather than a regular in the long run, so I'd value Thomas a bit more highly
Wouldn't take either off the table though
Taylor
6:44
Which impending free agent do you think is the best fit for the Mariners this offseason?
Anthony Franco
6:45
One of the big four shortstops. Trea ideally but he'll probably be the most expensive. They're a strong fit for anyone in that group though
6:46
At his end-of-year presser just now, Dipoto said they'd love to get a great shortstop who's willing to move to second base in deference to Crawford. That should be attainable for at least one of those guys if Seattle offers the most money
Tigerz
6:46
Some people think Miguel Cabrera should retire this year. I disagree, when I went to Comerica Park and he got announced, that stadium goes crazy. Do you think Cabrera should retire or not until after 2023?
Anthony Franco
6:47
He's not good now obviously but I think Miggy should play as long as he wants to keep playing. I'm hard-pressed to believe he'd walk away from the money left on his contract for next year
Tom Cruise
6:47
Are you doing the top 50 free agents this year? What about the prediction contest?
Anthony Franco
6:48
Yes, comes out a few days after the World Series ends
Jake
6:48
What are your thoughts on Ohtani’s criticism of the Angels season?
Anthony Franco
6:49
I don't speak Japanese so I'm not in position to read the original quotes. The interpreted version sounded like he was justifiably frustrated with the consistent lack of team success, but I don't think he's angling for a trade or anything
6:51
The team was terrible again, as they've been essentially since he got there. I wouldn't expect him to be happy with how things are going, and I think it's totally fair to say that it's not as fun playing games in September when you're out of the playoff race. I'd expect that to be the case
Desmond
6:51
Do you think giants fans will be more satisfied with their offseason this year as opposed to last year or should they expect another pirates and athletics like off season ?
Anthony Franco
6:51
I expect them to be very aggressive, think it'll easily be the biggest offseason they've had under Zaidi thus far
6:52
It's fair to point out that his front office hasn't made many huge splashes. Maybe he's just very risk-averse, but I suspect he more so planned to ride things out through last year when Crawford, Posey and Belt all had expiring contracts
6:53
Then the team surprisingly was awesome in 2021, and he pivoted to try to run it back this year because the roster earned another chance. It didn't work out, and now I think his front office will reshape the core
Dodgers
6:53
Would the angels take May, Lux, and Bellinger for Ohtani?
Anthony Franco
6:54
Yeah I think they'd have to take this one unless Arte Moreno irrationally blocked it. Dodgers would never offer it though
Jon
6:54
Is José Abreu resigning with the Sox or getting out of the sinking ship?
Anthony Franco
6:55
Sure seems like they're prepared to let him walk. With their payroll pushing franchise-record heights and a roster full of defensively-limited bats, they probably should allocate their money elsewhere
