Hey everyone, looking forward to another chat! I'll let the queue build for a minute and then we'll get rolling
Cleveland 4 Life
3:09
Cleveland seems to also be interested in adding bullpen arms. What arms do you think they could add for around 5-7 million per season on a 1 or 2 year deal?
Anthony Franco
3:10
For Cleveland or anyone else, I think the relievers we've got in the Honorable Mentions section of the top 50 (Loup, Chafin, Daniel Hudson, Joe Kelly if his medicals check out) could all wind up in that salary range
Coach
3:10
What kind of package will land Frankie Montas?
Anthony Franco
3:11
Two years of arb control of a high-end mid-rotation type will be pretty costly
3:12
I'm guessing you're looking at a headlining prospect who's in the back half of or just outside the top 50 overall and another decent prospect or two
I expect Oakland to prioritize nearer-term prospects since they don't typically do the full rebuild thing
Marineros
3:12
Are the Mariners more likely to sign Kris Bryant or Marcus Semien? If neither, who do you see instead?
Anthony Franco
3:13
I put them on Taylor as the versatile right-handed hitting infielder there, but think either Semien or Bryant are plausible fits too
I guess Semien feels a little likelier than Bryant to me because we expect him to come a little bit cheaper based on the age gap, but I wouldn't be surprised if they landed either player
Rocky Mountain Sadness
3:13
What free agent OF do you believe the Rockies should pursue?
Anthony Franco
3:14
I don't think they really should be pursuing anyone of note this winter, but it seems like they're determined to push the chips in a little bit
3:15
I guess I like Avi Garcia more than someone like Soler (who should be a DH) and Conforto (who'd cost a pick)
Chuck
3:15
Does Alec Bohm have trade value?
Anthony Franco
3:15
Yes but not nearly as much as he did a year ago. The grounders and lack of defensive value are pretty concerning
Dipoto
3:15
Would an offseason of Semien, Chapman, and Gausman be a win for the Mariners?
Anthony Franco
3:15
Absolutely
Carlos
3:15
Do you think that Freddie Freeman would accept the QO and then work out a new contract from that point?
Anthony Franco
3:16
No, there's no chance Freeman takes a QO. Nothing stops him from continuing to negotiate with the Braves after he rejects a QO this afternoon
Fredbird

Over/under $40 million AAV for Mad Max
Anthony Franco
3:16
Probably a little under
erstad grit
3:16
With Dodgers,  Giants, and Padres being competitive; might AZ trade Gallen and would Angels be a fit?
Anthony Franco
3:17
I think the D-Backs would at least listen, but neither Mike Hazen nor Ariel Sawdaye (probably their top two front office execs) have sounded particularly enamored with the idea of a rebuild
3:18
Broadly speaking, I still think they believe they have the nucleus of a competitive team there -- I don't disagree with them on that -- and don't really want to go into the multi-year rebuild route
Redsfan
3:18
Could the Reds trade Castillo for a MLB CF and a MLB ready Catcher and still stay competitive?
Anthony Franco
3:18
It's hard for me to see that happening. They don't need a catcher anyways, since Tyler Stephenson's good and should just be the guy.
3:19
But I don't really know who's giving up a productive center fielder to land a starting pitcher this winter. The Astros would listen on Chas McCormick probably, but I can't see the Reds finding him appealing as the centerpiece of a Castillo deal
3:20
Ken Rosenthal also wrote yesterday that his sources cast doubt on Castillo getting moved at all this winter
Juan
3:20
What do you think are the Padres offseason priorities?
Anthony Franco
3:21
That's a great question. I'd think bolstering the pitching depth would be the biggest "need" after injuries took such a toll this year, but I'm sure they're open to a bunch of different stuff
3:22
A.J. Preller's never been afraid to be bold, for better or worse. I could see them zeroing in on someone like Freddie Freeman or Nick Castellanos and trying to do anything they could to make another big splash work financially
Lunar verLander
3:22
I understand that Verlander is a very good starting pitcher who's shown incredible resilience in the past, but I'm a bit surprised that there are so many teams interested in a 39-year old pitcher who's coming back from TJ surgery. I get that he's different, but is the THAT different? Seems like a real-high risk, moderately-high reward situation to me. Thoughts?
Anthony Franco
3:23
I agree it's high-risk, but I think it's higher reward than you seem to. The most recent thing we saw from JV was literally a Cy Young caliber pitcher
If he's still showing ace-caliber stuff in showcases for scouts and everything, there's huge ceiling IMO
StevieCohen
3:23
Much ado about nothing. We received a comp pick. Noah hasn’t pitched in two years. Slightly confusing but not terrible move for Angels and good love for Mets. What am I missing!?
Anthony Franco
3:24
Similar thing with Syndergaard as with JV. It's been a while since he's pitched (excluding his final two innings during the last week of the regular season), but if Thor comes back from the surgery at peak form, he's great
I don't begrudge teams for throwing decent money at that upside, particularly if we're talking super short term deals
Luc
3:25
Scherzer or gray who is more likely to sign with the Giants?
Anthony Franco
3:25
I expect them to be in heavily on both, but I guess Gray feels a little more likely to me. I'm sure the Dodgers will also be plenty motivated to prevent Max from going to SF

The 'Trade Eloy' is gaining some traction locally.  Any noise nationally?
