Hey everyone, looking forward to another chat!
Going to give the queue a minute to fill up and then we'll get going
Marc D.
5:03
Scale of 1-10 how shocked were you by the Seager announcement.
Anthony Franco
5:03
Guess we should start with the biggest news we've had in a month
5:04
10, never considered that as a possibility
Darren
5:04
Does the minority owner investment for Cleveland push them closer to extensions for Bieber/Jose and pulling off a big trade for an OF bat?
Anthony Franco
5:05
I don't think so. Steve kind of went into this on our post on the initial announcement, but I doubt the hiring of a minority owner moves the needle immediately
Down the line if/when Blitzer assumes majority control? Perhaps, but I don't think we'll see a drastic change in spending over the next couple years
Lockouts suck
5:05
Boring lockouts suck! Amiright?
Anthony Franco
5:05
Seconded
Stu
5:05
Thanks for chatting. The Cubs shortstop in 2022 is...?
Anthony Franco
5:06
Kiner-Falefa? Think they'll look for a better defender than Hoerner but don't expect them to land Correa or Seager
Perry Minasian
5:06
Who should I focus on for pitching?
Anthony Franco
5:06
I've said this on a few occasions in these chats, I think, but I consider the infield a bigger need than pitching for the Angels at this point
5:07
The rotation, at least. They should be in on bullpen help, sign Joe Kelly or something
Bubby
5:07
Hey Anthony, thanks for doing this chat! Can you identify some darkhorse trade candidates like Tanner Scott of the Orioles that teams might target?
Anthony Franco
5:08
I've written about Scott's teammate Cole Sulser before. I think the Pirates should at least listen on their relievers (Chris Stratton and David Bednar)
5:09
As far as position players go, the Rays' infield depth might make them amenable to trading someone like Taylor Walls. The Jays could trade Alejandro Kirk based on their catching surplus. Minnesota could move a catcher or outfielder for pitching help
Mike Elias
5:09
what do I need to do to be competetive in the next few years
Anthony Franco
5:10
Obviously the biggest consideration is how well prospects like Rutschman, Grayson Rodriguez, Gunnar Henderson develop. Those guys becoming above-average regulars or stars helps a lot
But broadly speaking, they need a ton of pitching. That's probably not all going to come internally
Ross Atkins
5:10
Who is my opening day 3B? If your answer is Biggio or Espinal then who is my opening day 2B?
Anthony Franco
5:11
This is about the Jays. My answer to this throughout the offseason has been Kyle Seager, so I'll have to reevaluate there
I'll go with Jonathan Villar at this point with Biggio back at second
Jello452
5:11
What can the Angels do to make the Postseason?
Anthony Franco
5:12
I think with a bullpen and infield pickup I'd pick them as a Wild Card team going into the year, especially if the playoffs expand to seven teams per league
too much extra time
5:12
I've spent to much time trying to figure out how to get Kolten Wong to the White Sox including 3 team trades. I've got nothing that makes sense...help?!?
Anthony Franco
5:12
I can't see the Brewers making that kind of move
John
5:12
Do solid seasons by Mullins, Means, and/or Mancini lead more likely to extensions or trades?
Anthony Franco
5:13
If Mullins repeats his 2021, I don't think the Orioles are trading him. So for him, I'd say extension. Mancini and Means, though, feel like strong trade candidates at the deadline if they're playing well over the first couple months
Markale
5:14
What are the Tigers doing after the lockout?
Anthony Franco
5:14
It feels like their heavy lifting is mostly done with Báez, E-Rod and Barnhart but they need more rotation help, even if just a back-end guy
Ross
5:15
Matt Olson for Jesus Luzardo and Trever Rodgers?
Anthony Franco
5:15
I don't think Miami's trading Rogers, and the A's aren't going to trade for Luzardo back a few months after moving him
Giant realities
5:15
Anyone from the Giants system other than Bart making an impact in 22?
Anthony Franco
5:16
I think Heliot Ramos will have some effect on the big league team in 2022, either because he plays his way into the outfield or because he's traded for immediate MLB help
Tyler
5:16
What would the Royals have to give up for Ross Stripling?
Anthony Franco
5:17
Not a whole lot. Stripling wasn't great this year, I doubt the Jays would get more than a 40 FV prospect (like 20-30 on a typical team farm ranking) for him
Markale
5:17
Over/under: Correa 9/335
Anthony Franco
5:18
Over on years, lower on annual salary. Total guarantee feels about right, maybe a touch under
