Test
There we go haha
5:41
Hey everyone, nice to chat with you all again! Missed last week because of the pre-lockout frenzy
Tony
5:41
Are the players and the owners meeting at all this month ?
Grayson
5:41
Have you heard anything about the CBA negotiations? Have they even met since the shutdown?
Anthony Franco
5:42
It doesn't seem like they've met yet, no. Manfred said they had no future meeting dates scheduled at his lockout press conference last week
I'd be surprised if they don't at least sit back down before the end of the month, but I really have no idea and it doesn't seem there's a ton of urgency here yet
AJ Preller
5:42
Suzuki, Castellanos or Schwarbs make more sense in COF?
Anthony Franco
5:43
I guess that kind of depends on price point. If Castellanos actually approaches his seven or eight year ask, that'd just be way too much for me, since I don't know that Schwarber's all that much worse and he's reportedly looking for like three
5:44
Suzuki's kind of a Wild Card on whom teams are all going to have varying evaluations, I think. Broad consensus seems to be that he's an above-average right fielder, but whether the Padres fit into the group of teams that feels that way depends on their scouts' evaluations
Cody
5:45
I hate what Chaim is doing to my Red Sox. Is there any hope of a good outcome this year?
Anthony Franco
5:45
I haven't loved the Red Sox's offseason so far, but there's obviously still time. If they come away with Freddie Freeman or Trevor Story at the end, then sitting out the top or middle of the FA starting pitching market looks ok
Drew
5:45
When will the lock out end you think?
Anthony Franco
5:46
I remain cautiously optimistic about it being wrapped by mid-late January
Hmmm
5:46
Does Rodon break 100 mil?
Anthony Franco
5:47
I'm the high guy on Rodón at MLBTR, and even I don't think he's got much of a shot at nine figures. Something like Stroman's deal (3/71 with an opt-out after Year Two) feels like the ceiling for me
white sox fan
5:47
Should the white sox target a 2B or RF more?
Anthony Franco
5:47
I expect them to address both but would consider second base to be more a defined need
5:48
Engel's probably best suited for fourth OF or platoon duty, but I don't think it'd be a disaster if you open the season with him as your starting RF
Buck Showalter
5:48
Am I the Mets next manager? If not me, who?
Anthony Franco
5:49
I'll guess Buck for now, yeah. Jon Heyman tweeted yesterday that he's viewed as the favorite by some around the industry
5:50
It's a logical fit. Tons of experience, including some in NY. Seems to have the respect of a lot of players, so sure
Gene Autry
5:50
What's it going to take for my halos to make the playoff's in 2022??
Anthony Franco
5:50
I think they're right on the border already, particularly if the playoffs expand to six or seven teams in each league with the next CBA
5:51
Health from Ohtani, Syndergaard and Patrick Sandoval seems like the biggest thing (and Trout and Rendon, of course). But I actually like the rotation more than I have in years, the lineup has stars
5:53
Make some form of middle infield upgrade before the start of the season so you're not relying on Fletcher-Rengifo every day and I'd probably pick them as a playoff team entering the season
Padres Fan
5:53
The Dinelson Lamet as a SP idea should be canned so he we can get a full year out of him as our closer. Who says no, and why?
Anthony Franco
5:53
Eh, I don't know if I'd close the book on that entirely. Lamet was so good in 2020 that it's hard to completely abandon hopes of him being an ace-caliber guy for 150+ innings
Cubbies
5:54
What other signings can the Cubs anticipate once the lock out ends?
Anthony Franco
5:55
I think they'll consider defensive upgrades at shortstop. Can still get Hoerner everyday playing time in a Chris Taylor type of role, and he might wind up as the regular third baseman eventually if Wisdom regresses
5:56
An addition or two in the bullpen feels like a must, as well. I don't think they'll be good in 2022, but they won't be nearly as bad as they were for the final couple months of 2021
Dean
5:56
How young is too young to be a mlb hitting coach?
Anthony Franco
5:56
Ha, I'm guessing this is in response to 27-year-old Michael Brdar getting the job in San Diego a few weeks ago
5:57
I don't think there's really a line of demarcation. If the guy's good enough at relating to players and communicating concepts he wants to implement, then I think the majority of players on the roster will be willing to hear him out
Catching shortage
5:57
Who are the top FA catchers?
Anthony Franco
5:58
Mark did a full breakdown on this yesterday
Spoiler: it's bad
At least on the free agent side of things
Philbert
5:58
Are we rolling, Bob? Was Freddie Freeman not being locked up by Braves prior to lockout a big deal? Are Dodgers and Yankees serious contenders for his services? If so, where does he go?
