Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well!
Going to give the queue a minute or two here and then we'll get rolling
AJ Preller
5:22
Suzuki and Cruz, right?
Anthony Franco
5:23
(Preller is the Padres president of baseball ops)
I think Suzuki's likely to land a bigger deal than they'll be willing to do given the amount of demand he should have and San Diego being up around $200MM in current commitments already
5:24
Cruz at like 1/10-12 to DH makes sense

5:24
Does Meadows work well as a platoon outfielder with Wil Myers,
Anthony Franco
5:25
I think Myers is probably overqualified for the short side of a corner outfield platoon
5:26
I'd like the Meadows fit there better if they can find a taker for a chunk of the Myers money and just let Meadows play most days
Jason
5:26
Hi Anthony, what do you think the odds are of an international draft being included in the next CBA?
Anthony Franco
5:26
This is a tough one. The union doesn't want the international draft but I can't imagine preventing it is going to be at the top of their priority list
5:27
So I lean towards it being included, although only at like 60/40 or something
Carl
5:27
Do you see the Phillies being in on Correra?
Anthony Franco
5:28
I think they'll at least circle back and reengage with him after the lockout, yeah. They may ultimately decide not to commit that kind of money with a handful of other needs on the roster, but they're running low on alternatives at shortstop unless they want to turn things over to Stott fairly soon

CBS recently published an article naming the Mariners as a potential fit for Adalberto Mondesi should he be traded. How likely do you think that is?
Anthony Franco
5:29
I think the Mariners are shooting for a more definitive upgrade to the offense, probably via free agency
Is Mondesi better than Abraham Toro? I don't think that's clear enough they'll give up what it takes to get him

It's May 1st. Are there MLB games on TV tonight?
Anthony Franco
5:29
I think so
John
5:30
Thoughts on Soto declining the extension offer?
Anthony Franco
5:31
Elaborated at a lot greater length in the post, but I think it was a fairly easy call for him and Boras, as crazy as that sounds on the surface
5:32
He was just in a lot better negotiating position than Tatís was at the time he signed his deal. Not surprised that adding an extra $10MM to the guarantee and knocking off a year of the term wasn't appealing enough

What does a Cedric Mullins trade bring back?
Anthony Franco
5:32
I think you'd be looking at a three or four player return headlined by one of the top 20 or so prospects in baseball
5:33
I also remain skeptical the Orioles would actually move him. You'd be acquiring young players you hope become as good as Mullins is now, and it's not like they're going to rebuild forever
Lewis
5:33
Why did Cherington choose Davis 1st?
Anthony Franco
5:35
Teams are increasingly willing to spread the bonus pool around now by cutting at the top, and saving money on Davis allowed them to afford guys like Bubba Chandler and Lonnie White later on
I think a lot of teams are of the opinion that evaluating prospects is an inexact science and they don't want to overrate their ability to correctly delineate between Players 1, 2 and 3 on the draft board
5:37
So they put guys near the top into tiers, and then they're content to draft whichever player from Tier 1 (say, Davis/Jordan Lawlar/Marcelo Mayer as a hypothetical) is willing to cut the best deal to go overslot later on
Luis Torrens
5:37
Do you think he still has a chance to stick at catcher, or will be become more of a utility guy around the infield?
Anthony Franco
5:37
I think he moonlights at catcher but spends more time at first or DH
CY
5:38
Do the Rangers have another big contract in them this offseason? I know they’d find the money if Kershaw was interested, but other than that.
Anthony Franco
5:39
I think they might, yeah. Evan Grant reported at the start of the offseason they could add $100MM to the 2022 payroll this winter. They've added around $80MM so far
Credit to Grant on that one. He was all over their future spending spree really early
Anthony
5:40
Would you be a manager or GM of a team if you had a choice?
Anthony Franco
5:40
It'd be the kind of opportunity I think I'd have to take, but I'm not much of the "vocal leader of an organization type"
5:41
Which is to say, I'd be pretty bad at both those jobs
Tiger's Hopeful
5:41
What type of prospect would it cost to get Merrill Kelly from Arizona?
Anthony Franco
5:42
Doubt it'd take more than a low-level flier. Only had an 8.8% swinging strike rate last year, doesn't throw hard, there weren't a ton of reports of interest at the deadline
5:43
I like Kelly, and I'd think he be an upgrade to quite a few rotations at the back end. But he's not the kind of guy anyone's going to be dying to acquire. Maybe something like the Mariners-Pirates Tyler Anderson deal from July?
