I don't think Cleveland goes for it. Bo Naylor's better than Amaya anyways
B Snit’s Bongos
6:28
Which expiring contract has the most trade value heading into 2023?
Anthony Franco
6:29
Octane's obviously first, followed by Urías and Nola probably
Fantasy Player
6:29
Is Glenn Otto a rotation player this year?
Anthony Franco
6:30
Not if the Rangers can help it. It'd take a couple injuries to get him back into that mix
Jason Adam
6:30
3 plus pitches, pinpoint command, statcast darling, sustained velo with heavy use late into the season; odds, I’m the next Jeffrey Springs that gets stretched into a starter?
Anthony Franco
6:32
Interesting idea but I don't see it happening. Rays have more rotation stability now than they did last year with Eflin signed and Glasnow back (plus Springs, as you mentioned). Adam is also a more dominant reliever than Springs was, so they'd be taking more of a risk with this one
6:33
I do like the thought process though. I tried to identify a few candidates for this kind of thing in a Front Office post last summer. Will Vest was my favorite possibility for the Springs move but the Tigers apparently disagree

why would the jays sign green now knowing they'd loose gage. Why not have a hand shake deal and announce it when you can add green directly to the 60 day.
Anthony Franco
6:35
I've gotten a few questions like this related to a handful of players. I'd guess in most of those cases, the player probably just wanted to get the deal finalized as quickly as possible

You can sign one Guardian not named Bieber to a long term extension. Who would you choose?
Anthony Franco
6:36
Giménez

Will Ashby's injuries nudge the Brewers toward signing one of the lefty relievers still on the market?
Anthony Franco
6:37
I don't think so. Not like they were planning to use Ashby as a situational left-hander anyways. Even if he were in relief, it'd likely have been as a multi-inning leverage weapon as opposed to a matchup guy
6:38
There's also no indication it's overly concerning at this point. Seems possible he could still be ready for Opening Day, just not built up to the level they were hoping for

Who do you think is more likely to win an MVP in their career Julio Rodríguez or Adley Rutschman?
Anthony Franco
6:39
Tough one. I think I'd take Julio since it can be difficult for catchers to amass the kind of playing time that gets them to the top of the leaderboards given the rigors of the position
6:40
Haven't seen a catcher win MVP since Posey in 2012. The award's been won by an outfielder 11 times since then

Idk why the angels aren’t all in on Elvis Andrus at this point. If they want any hope of retaining shohei the angels should at least break .500
Anthony Franco
6:42
I'd rather see them add arm, either rotation depth or one of the remaining relievers. Andrus would be a better defender than any shortstop they have probably but I'm not convinced he'd be a better overall player than what they could get from whoever's playing best of Rengifo, Urshela and Fletcher
Add an arm*, obviously
Stick figure
6:42
Do you like what the Phillies did with their bullpen?
Anthony Franco
6:44
Sure. I don't love Gregory Soto but also don't think they'll regret giving up anyone they did in that trade. Kimbrel price was perfectly reasonable. There's been a lot of discussion about the Matt Strahm deal in the context of the LH relief market but it was about what we expected he'd get all along
I think it's an above-average bullpen in totality

Who finishes in last this year?  Oakland?  Pittsburg?  Or someone else?
Anthony Franco
6:46
I'd have Oakland and the Nationals at the bottom of the respective leagues. Pittsburgh's also better than the Rockies and maybe Cincinnati IMO
Paul
6:48
Do you think the Brewers will trade any of their starting depth before opening day? What players would they get in that kind deal?
Anthony Franco
6:50
I thought Houser would've gotten moved, although the Ashby shoulder might decrease those odds somewhat. Not going to have huge trade appeal but maybe brings back a matchup bat for the corner outfield rotation

19th time I’ve raised this point: it doesn’t matter who is at 2B for the White Sox if Robert, Jimenez, Grandal, Anderson and Moncada aren’t healthy and productive. Thoughts?
Anthony Franco
6:52
Sure but the White Sox are obviously expecting those guys to perform better than you're implying or they wouldn't have signed Benintendi

Will you be watching the Waste Management golf outing tomorrow?   Remember the hole in one last year and the fans response?
Anthony Franco
6:52
I can't do golf
Mike Rizzo
6:52
Any word on Strasburg's potential progress? Last word I read of a quote from him was from last September where he said he hadn't thrown in months
Anthony Franco
6:52
Jon Heyman wrote a few days ago that he's throwing now. No other details, still not clear if/when he'll be able to get into game shape
Richard D
6:53
Will Miles Straw’s glove keep him in the lineup regularly.  Therefore leaving Brennan on the bench?
Anthony Franco
6:55
It gets him another opportunity to start the season but I don't think they'll leave him out there all year if he hits .221/.291/.273 again. Brennan's put himself in the mix to take that job if Straw's not performing offensively, especially since Straw can factor in later in games as a defensive replacement or pinch-runner

What are the chances the Yankees roll into the season with the roster as is? Seems risky and uncommon for a WS contender to rely on unproven young guys (Peraza, Cabrera, Volpe) so heavily and at such important positions.
Anthony Franco
6:56
Just seems like they're tapped out financially right now. Wouldn't say they're really relying on Volpe, at least out of the gate. They do still have IKF as a shortstop fallback for Peraza
Ben Cherington

Who goes first in the amateur draft?
Anthony Franco
6:58
Obviously subject to change depending on the next few months but I like Chase Dollander the most out of anyone on the college side
