Why can’t we have a salary floor.  Maybe the league should do a better job of who they allow to purchase a team
Anthony Franco
4:55
League attached a lowered CBT threshold to the salary floor in its offers last summer
4:56
That's a no-go for the union, and the league's not going to agree to a salary floor without dramatically reducing spending at the top end
Train
4:57
Do you think Cruz is a HOFer?
Anthony Franco
4:57
I do not, but that's not to say he hasn't had an excellent career
Stuart
4:57
Do you believe the Jays are really in the running for Freeman?
Anthony Franco
4:57
Skeptical of that. Don't think you want to make Vlad a full-time DH already, but pushing him back to third would probably be too much of a challenge
Big Shot
4:58
how much do you see Kwang Kim getting on the market?
Anthony Franco
4:58
Steve wrote about Kim recently and opined he'd get two years
4:59
I'd probably peg him more at like 1/8 because of the lack of velocity and swing-and-miss, but I also get why some might say he's just better than Andrew Heaney and Jordan Lyles and should be paid accordingly

Do you see Detroit signing a 1st baseman veteran to assist Torkelson?
Anthony Franco
5:00
Nah, I think that's just going to be Cabrera's role
Swerve
5:00
if freeman does leave.. who does ATL turn to ?
Anthony Franco
5:00
Seems like it'd be either Matt Olson or Anthony Rizzo at that point
Rainbow
5:01
Solano to the Rangers makes too much sense. Should they go for him?
Anthony Franco
5:01
I don't really see the fit. I'd just go Semien, Seager and IKF around the infield
Paul
5:01
Once the lockout ends the free agents will be at a disadvantage because they have to sign in a big hurry. It doesn’t give them much time
Anthony Franco
5:02
I think this is partially true but it's not a universal thing
Correa and Bryant will still get paid. The bulk of the remaining free agents were going to sign low base one-year or minor league deals anyways
5:03
The guys between like 25 and 50 on our Top 50 list -- Joc Pederson, Eddie Rosario, Ryan Tepera types -- feel like they'd probably get squeezed the most (i.e. from two years down to one) by the shorter window
5:04
But a bunch of the guys in that window preemptively avoided that situation by signing in November
JP3
5:04
who would you rather have in your starting lineup Kim or Profar?
Anthony Franco
5:04
Kim
Joey
5:04
Any free agency rumors at all...
Anthony Franco
5:04
The Rockies are interested in Michael Conforto?
5:05
That's probably the best we're gonna get for a while

Do you personally think this work stoppage is a positive or negative look PR wise for all sides that enjoy baseball as a sport? Do you think professional baseball contract negotiations result in work stoppages moreso than other unionized professiinal sports? What does this say about professional baseball?
Anthony Franco
5:06
This is the first official MLB work stoppage since the 1994-95 players' strike (although I'd consider June 2020 an unofficial work stoppage)
I believe each of the NFL, NHL and NBA has had work stoppages in the last twenty years, and the NHL lost an entire season in 2004
5:07
Which is to say, I don't think this is unique to baseball. The issues they're arguing about are, but the inherent tension between players and ownership is not
Cincinnati
5:07
I am planning on making a trip to see the Brewers play the Reds in Cincinnati, assuming the season has started by June. Do you have any restaurant recommendations
Anthony Franco
5:07
I've never been to Cincinnati but I'll toss this out to the chat if they want to recommend anything
Ryan
5:08
Royals going after Correa makes so much sense. Would he and Witt Jr. (2b) up the middle would be spectacular?
Anthony Franco
5:08
Their largest contract ever is the $82MM they gave to Salvador Pérez last spring. They're not signing Correa
5:09
He'd be a great fit for essentially any roster, but it's not happening

5:09
why can’t mlb allow trading of draft picks
Anthony Franco
5:09
They could, but I don't know that either the league nor the union cares enough one way or the other to push it in CBA talks
5:10
Someday they'll probably add it, but I don't expect it to come up during these negotiations
