Anthony Franco

Hey everyone, only eight days from regular season baseball!
Going to give the queue another minute and then we'll talk about it
Joe
4:32
Who do you think the Mets biggest x-factor is this year and where do you see them finishing in the NL East?
Anthony Franco
4:33
"Biggest x-factor" feels like deGrom's health to me
I think they're the second-best team in the division behind the Braves
Guard Dian
4:33
What the Jose Ramirez extension going to be?
Anthony Franco
4:34
I'd be surprised if it happens. Doesn't seem like they've gotten very far to this point and it'd require a lot more money than they've ever spent on a single player
Sad A's Fan
4:34
Any more moves from the A's before the season starts? Trades, FA signings?
Anthony Franco
4:34
Still think there's a chance Manaea gets moved but I'd have thought that was a lock last week and now it seems like more of a toss-up at best
RoyalBlue
4:35
What do you think the Royals plan is with MJ Melendez? What else does he need to prove in the minors? Salvy doesn't appear to be slowing down--or really wanting to. You have Cam Gallagher has his backup. Is he a trade chip or is 2023 really his year?
Anthony Franco
4:35
Yeah he's really got nothing left to prove in the minors, but Pérez is around through at least 2025 and, as you said, still really good
4:36
I think they have to consider trading Melendez at some point
KJ
4:36
Should the Giants trade for JRam?
Anthony Franco
4:36
Also don't believe Cleveland's trading Ramírez, at least not until the deadline
I think they're just going to carry him onto the season on this year's option and see if the team can compete
Les Gomez
4:36
Sean Manaea for Mark Vientos. Who says no?
Anthony Franco
4:37
Doubt the Mets give up Vientos for one year of Manaea
Stever
4:37
Does the Urena signing maybe hint at an offensive upgrade trade involving Lauer/Houser/Ashby/Small or just depth?
Anthony Franco
4:37
Just depth, Stearns said they're probably going to use him as a reliever
Josiah
4:37
You taking the over or under on Giants at 90 wins?
Anthony Franco
4:37
Slight under, I think
Noah
4:37
What do u think of Jays and also what do u think of the Conforto situation? Thx
Anthony Franco
4:38
I think the Tapia trade marked the end of the Jays' pursuit for a left-handed hitting outfielder. Conforto always felt like a bit of a stretch there to me since it basically meant Teoscar has to DH everyday and teams don't generally love doing that
hanna
4:39
Do the Nats find a way to extend Soto? If so, what's that deal look like?
Anthony Franco
4:39
Soto has talked a couple times about wanting to proceed year-by-year through arbitration and testing free agency. I think that's ultimately the course of action he'll take
junkie monkey
4:40
any reason yankees havent traded for a number 2 starting pitcher yet sevy is way too high risk everyone else is 3 4 5 both oakland pitchers and tyler mahle would be upgrade
Anthony Franco
4:40
The Reds aren't trading Mahle. I agree the Yankees make sense for either of the A's guys, Montas in particular
Sam
4:41
Is Trevor Rosenthal going to get signed? Shocked he's still available. Maybe the Phillies?
Anthony Franco
4:42
He didn't pitch at all last year and ended the season having to undergo hip surgery. Haven't heard anything about him this offseason but it's possible he's still not yet healthy
Twins Fan
4:42
If the Twins can't get a trade done for starting pitching before the season starts, do they wait until the trade deadline? They might not be contenders by then if they don't have a better rotation!
Anthony Franco
4:43
I'm not sure what the alternative is. Are the A's going to be more motivated to trade Manaea in May than they are right now?
4:44
The Twins rotation is not great, and it very well could cost them a playoff spot. But it's rare to see teams make notable trades in May, since there's no real pressing motivation for the "seller" to do that
PJ
4:44
Are the Pirates going to budge at all on the Bryan Reynolds asking price? Clearly they are trying to fleece Miami and they arent having it.
Anthony Franco
4:45
I don't think so. Reports going back to last summer's deadline have basically suggested the Pirates had no interest in trading Reynolds and wanted him to be a core piece coming out of the rebuild
PJ
4:45
Seems like Laureano should have been moved by now. Is the PED thing killing his market?
Anthony Franco
4:46
I think it makes it harder to trade him, particularly since the suspension lines up almost perfectly that it could cost him a year of service time this season
But I also don't think there was ever real motivation for the A's to trade Laureano (or Murphy). They wanted to cut spending this year, not tear everything down and do a five-year rebuild
4:47
Neither Laureano nor Murphy is making much of anything. The guys they traded -- Chapman, Olson and Bassitt -- were among their highest-paid players. They're shooting for a quicker reload, and I think it makes sense to just keep Laureano and Murphy around at that point
DiPoto Fanboy
4:48
I get the desire to spend money, but why are experts grading the Mariner's offseason so poorly because they didn't get Bryant/Story? Winker is "rated" as a higher player by these same experts than both of them..
Anthony Franco
4:48
I'm not sure what you're referring to, but I liked the Mariners offseason well enough personally
