Hey everyone, first post-Opening Day chat! Let's get rolling
Cubs
5:30
What do you think of this cubs team ? 80 win team ?
Anthony Franco
5:31
Under, maybe 75? The back of the rotation's rough, doubt Ortega and Wisdom repeat last year's performance
Kwan4life
5:31
Is Kwan for real?
Anthony Franco
5:32
In the sense that he's always hit and earned himself real prospect attention last winter despite his lack of power, yeah
5:33
But he's obviously nowhere close to this good. It's been a great story and an incredible start, but you shouldn't feel much differently about him now than you did six days ago
Lucas Giolito
5:33
Do I get more than Jose Berrios? (7/131)
Anthony Franco
5:34
Depends on the year he has in 2022. He'll be a year older next winter than Berríos was in the same service bucket last winter, but I think Giolito's a better pitcher
5:35
So yeah, I think he'd top 131 if he has a typical season this year. But he has to post his standard numbers first
baby shark do-do-do
5:35
At this point, Nolan Arenado is pretty clear the front runner for NL MVP. Think he can keep it up?
Anthony Franco
5:35
There is no such thing as a frontrunner for MVP a week into the season
Ross Atkins
5:36
is there anyone i should target on the trade market?
Anthony Franco
5:36
(Atkins is Blue Jays GM)
5:37
Maybe there's an opportunity to upgrade over Espinal/Biggio closer to the deadline. I'm sure they'll add an arm or two to the bullpen, but I don't think there's anything super pressing right now
Twins Fan
5:38
If Byron Buxton plays 140+ games is he in the top 3 for MVP
Anthony Franco
5:38
I think so, yeah
Happ
5:38
Think I'll get traded? One more year of arb and I don't think I'm a core piece. Lots of clubs could use me...
Anthony Franco
5:39
Yeah I could see that, kind of depends where they sit in July. They didn't trade Contreras before the season and obviously aren't punting on the year
If they're hanging around the playoff picture, there probably won't be enough demand for Happ to make it worthwhile. But if they're 6-8 games out at that point, sure
Joe
5:40
How concerned are you about the Phillies offense?
Anthony Franco
5:41
Their center fielders are bad, but that's true of a bunch of playoff contenders. The rest of the offense should be quite good. Defense and bullpen, on the other hand, are worrisome
Mark Weber
5:41
Mets still having bullpen problems, could a trade come soon?
Anthony Franco
5:41
It's been six days
Dan
5:41
Mauricio Dubon and Tyler Beede are a couple of players on the Giants out of options that may be on the bubble when rosters drop from 28 to 26. Do you foresee some trades coming up of guys like this as we approach May? Who else are some interesting out of option names on the bubble around baseball?
Anthony Franco
5:42
Here's the full out of options list
5:43
I think Dubón/Estrada are maybe the most interesting. Probably not room on the roster for both once La Stella and Longo get back, and I agree the former seems more likely to be on the outs
5:44
Padre reliever Austin Adams is kind of interesting. The Mariners have two catchers (Torrens and Murphy) who are both out of options but Cal Raleigh's in that mix as well
Joe O
5:44
The American League East looks like its stacked this year (again).  Can the Blue Jays reach the top of the heap this year?
Anthony Franco
5:44
I prefer the Rays but you could make a real case for any of the top four
Kim Ng
5:44
Should I just cut Michael Conforto a check for 2022 and be done with it?
Anthony Franco
5:45
(Marlins GM)
I'd have rather signed Conforto than either of Aví or Soler, but at this point, I think the ship has sailed. They've already got too many corner outfielders
Blake
5:45
Are any of the royals young pitchers going to figure it out or do we need to grab another starter or 2 ASAP?
Anthony Franco
5:46
I thought Singer was the best of the group and they 'penned him, so it seems like they've got a different opinion on those guys than I do
5:47
I'm not really a Bubic fan. Hernández is interesting but seems more of a reliever to me. Still holding out hope for Lynch. I don't think there's much to do right now but wait and see
Joshua
5:47
Josh Bell has been solid to very good after his slow start last year. If he keeps up the solid output, do you think he could bring back a prospect in the 90-120 range? Thanks.
Anthony Franco
5:48
I don't think so. He's fairly expensive (making $10MM this season), an impending FA and defensively limited
5:49
He'd draw interest if he's hitting well, but I think you're looking more at like two mid-tier guys in an acquiring club's system
Newfie in the USA

How crazy was Judge to turn down that extension offer? I don't see how he gets more on the open market
