If Harper can play first base, then that opens up a potential acquisition in the corner outfield that pushes Castellanos or Schwarber to DH. If Bryce can't play the field by the deadline, they're either trying one of Castellanos/Schwarber at first base or looking to the trade market

Needs to be collectively bargained. Seems like the MLBPA is open and the league is kind of resistant to it, though I don't see a compelling reason for that

I think it'd make the draft marginally more interesting and would like to see it happen, but it's also not something either the union or MLB seem like they're going to push hard for. Doesn't really move the needle for either one financially

Are you watching Mexico City series? Did MLB screw this up for not having a team like the Rays play in this series? None of SD or SF players played for Mexico for WBC.

I hadn't seen that quote but I buy that Pittsburgh will look into more extensions. Simon and I discussed this on the podcast yesterday too, but the Reynolds and Hayes deals are both affordable and leave a lot of room for Pittsburgh to continue trying to lock down core players

I wouldn't consider anyone on the roster someone they urgently need to sign right now though. Reynolds and Hayes were the obvious targets for long-term deals. The other position players still have to prove themselves, as do Roansy Contreras and Johan Oviedo. Maybe they look to get something done with David Bednar -- especially with his ties to the area -- but they're in the driver seat there already controlling him through age-32

Horrible news obviously. Nothing to be done at this point on the calendar but it makes the rotation an obvious target area closer to the deadline, especially if Chris Flexen keeps getting bombed

I got a few questions about Bumgarner, most of which involved the Rays. They've got rotation injuries but I just don't see much reason for optimism that he can still be a viable big league starter. I'd rather continue the Calvin Faucher experiment while awaiting Glasgow's return

Aroldis and Scott Barlow in K.C. should both be out there. If Daniel Bard is throwing strikes, there'll probably be some talk about him. Teams will try on Alexis Díaz but the Reds might not want to do that. Similar situation in Detroit with Alex Lange

Not there yet, largely because I'm still not sold on Kikuchi keeping the ball in the yard consistently enough. Berríos has looked great for his past few starts and the top three should be good despite Bassitt's slow start

It's a good rotation but I'd probably take Houston, Atlanta and maybe a few others over them still
