Do you see Jays trading pieces?
Simon Hampton
10:34
This 3-10 stretch has been brutal for the Blue Jays, particularly in a close division, but I don't think it's fatal. So much talent on that roster to get things back on track
Cardy Bee
10:35
St Louis going to land a SP before the ASG?
Simon Hampton
10:37
The Cards are working their way back into contention and with how winnable the NL Central looks, I have to think they're leaning more and more into being buyers. I know I predicted Bieber would wind up at the Orioles but the Cards would make a lot of sense there as well. Maybe the Red Sox would float Chris Sale as he looks better and better?
Greg
10:37
Even if the Pirates are out of contention by the deadline, can you still see them buying?
Simon Hampton
10:39
Not in any serious way, but I could see them adding long term pieces for sure. They could well deal guys like Santana, Velasquez and Hill which could open up spots for an addition
Friar Faithful?
10:39
What do the Padres do about their catching situation?
Simon Hampton
10:40
Catching is always a tough position to get any major upgrades mid season. They could try a different AAAA player there, or could look to deal for someone like Hedges if the Bucs decide they need to let Davis and/or Rodriguez go in the majors.
Queens & Kings

What's up with Verlander? Just shaking off rust?
Simon Hampton
10:43
Not too worried about him just yet. Most of the damage done in two bad starts. The others have been fine.

10:44
Francisco Alvarez looking like a Rookie of the Year candidate. Who is the competition?
Simon Hampton
10:44
Corbin Carroll is hitting .278/.369/.491 in more plate appearances. Love what Alvarez is doing but there's other contenders
Vickie
10:46
Not the first I've seen mention of a Sale trade. Why would the Red Sox trade him when they're still trying to compete. It makes no sense.
Simon Hampton
10:48
There's definitely that, and while the Sox are 28-24 and 2 games back in the wild card standings they probably aren't looking to sell. But I do see a good chance that they fall out of contention in an ultra-competitive division over the next month or two, at which point the opportunity to move a major contract and give them a lot more flexibility going into 2024 might well be appealing.

He's no sure trade candidate, but I do see a world in which his name does come up as we get into July

Is Cashman’s and Boone’s jobs finally on the hot seat?
Simon Hampton
10:50
They're 31-23 and have looked really good for the past two weeks while still having a ton of players out injured. Definitely not on the hot seat.
Jorge Mateo
10:50
Am I going to lose my starting job soon?
Simon Hampton
10:53
It's just been an utterly brutal stretch at the plate for Mateo. His glove still keeps his value up but the bat is now very much in line with past performance. As for whether he loses his starting job, there's no one really forcing the issue there but that could change of course if the Orioles look to make a trade

10:55
Your thoughts on Jose Siri's season so far?
Simon Hampton
10:56
Another one of these Rays hitters that have found a way to unlock a bunch of power this season. Yandy Diaz, Harold Ramirez, Josh Lowe, Taylor Walls, Luke Raley, Siri...
Northside
10:57
Was the Taillon signing a mistake?
Simon Hampton
10:59
It's obviously an ugly start when he's sporting an ERA of 8 through his first 8 starts. He has got a sky high BABIP so has been a bit unlucky in that regard, and was obviously hurt for a while so it's been an unfortunate first couple of months for him.

I'm a huge fan of his stuff though and find it hard to believe he's just turned into an awful pitcher all of a sudden, so while time will tell on whether the deal is a mistake or not I do think he'll find his way back to being a serviceable pitcher before long
Shea
11:00
Are Lindor’s best days behind him?
Simon Hampton
11:01
He was worth 6.8 fWAR last year and while the bat is off to a slow start in 2023 he's still providing elite defense at short. It's a long contract and there could well be some bad years towards the end but I don't think we're yet at the point where we can safely say he's past his best
MonsieurHello
11:01
Should the Blue Jays put forth an offer to trade the contract of Varsho to the Diamondbacks for the contracts of Moreno and Gurriel Jr.?
Simon Hampton
11:02
Ha, that'd cost a lot more than Varsho at this point
Braves20
11:03
Soroka pulled from today's AAA start. OK to be optimistic about a start in Oakland this week?
Simon Hampton
11:03
All the noise seems to suggest Soroka is returning to the big leagues, yep
11:04
Couple more then I'll wrap it up
Eloy Jimenez
11:05
When do I get activated?
Simon Hampton
11:05
He's been activated and is in the lineup today!
Aaron k
11:06
If Volpe doesn't start to hit how look do they wait until they send him down. And bring Perzara
Simon Hampton
11:08
They're still getting good defense from him and he's a real threat on the bases, but yep he's not hit much lately and is no longer drawing the walks he was back in April. Peraza is torching Triple-A at the moment so while I don't think it's an imminent move, I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see it happen at some point.

There's also the ongoing trade dynamics to consider. Is Peraza a trade candidate? Or is a deal to shift Torres and put Peraza at 2B an option. Quite a few moving parts in that infield picture in New York
11:09
Ok thanks everyone! Sorry to all those questions I couldn't get to. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
