Will the Cubs ever try to compete again?
Anthony Franco

They didn't not try this past winter. They signed significantly more players than anyone else, basically overhauled half the roster

2022 is kind of a stepping stone year. Evaluate whether guys like Wisdom, Schwindel and Hoerner can be regulars, break in Brennen Davis at some point. But this isn't a rebuild really. I expect them to make win-now moves next offseason

Thor and Lorenzen have been outstanding, but on one year deals will have to find pitching again in off season. Should I try and extend one of them now or both?
Anthony Franco
1:37
I think both those guys signed one-year deals with the intent of proving themselves as starters (Thor because of the TJ surgery, Lorenzen because of the way he'd been used in Cincinnati) and testing the market again next winter
No harm in trying on an extension, I guess, and I'd want to keep Syndergaard around in particular if I were them. But I don't think a long-term deal in either case is likely

do you think the Rox are ready to make some moves?

Competing this year? I don't buy it, but they've already tried to do that over the winter
1:39
They signed the second-largest free agent deal of the offseason. I expect them to fall out of the playoff race by July, but if they're still around, maybe they go get some middle infield help?

When does the "it's still early" point come to an end in your opinion?  Now, two months in, etc ...  Thanks!

Obviously it's kind of a sliding scale. I would say we've long since hit that point for the Reds, nowhere close to it for the White Sox
1:41
But as a general rule, the end of June is about where I think teams have to really think about how their place in the standings should be affecting their deadline behavior and long-term outlook

A reasonable expectation for Musgrove's extension?
Anthony Franco

I think he should be looking to beat Gausman/Ray money
Alright everyone, that's all I've got time for today

Appreciate all the questions, apologies for everything I couldn't get to
Feel free to throw stuff at me on Twitter @affranco10 throughout the week, I'm typically pretty responsive on there

I also run a chat for Front Office subscribers every Friday (believe we may push this week's up to tomorrow afternoon). The queues in those are much smaller, and I can get through the vast majority of those questions
Here's a link to our Front Office membership page if that's of interest
Tim covered the other membership features here
Have a good week everyone, we'll do this again soon!
