Hey everybody, hope you're all doing well!
Looking forward to another chat, let's get it rolling
Jed
4:32
Will I be able to get a Top 50-75 prospect for Contreras?
Anthony Franco
4:32
I get some variation of this question every week and I just don't see it given the small window of control
Trades
4:32
First big name traded?
Anthony Franco
4:33
Somebody on a team that's completely dead. Josh Bell or Nelson Cruz maybe?
Guard The Land
4:33
With so much position player depth in the majors and minors and new minority ownership coming in, could you see Cleveland maybe taking a big shot at a guy like Josh Hader for their bullpen and then extending him? They do need to make a trade with their crowded farm and that sounds like it makes tons of sense.
Anthony Franco
4:34
Milwaukee's not going to trade Hader in-season, and I'm a little less optimistic than you are that Blitzer coming on is going to change the spending habits that much, at least initially
4:35
Down the road I'm guessing the payroll's will increase but I doubt a new minority is going to dramatically change behavior enough that the Guardians are pushing nine figures on a reliever
M's Fan!
4:35
Do you see the Mariners selling Frazier and Haniger but buying a Glasnow for 2023 contention?
Anthony Franco
4:36
Not Glasnow specifically, given that the Rays have held him long enough I don't see them moving him now
4:37
But this kind of concept -- move the rentals while being open to opportunistic buying on guys with more control -- makes sense for Seattle, Texas, maybe the Angels if they fall way out of it
RM
4:37
What do the Rays do about their outfield situation? Is there anybody on the market that can be had cheaply enough?
Anthony Franco
4:39
I doubt it'll be anybody super impactful. Put Lowe in center field and platoon Ramírez and Phillips for a bit, then add a Robbie Grossman type or something like that
kellyshero45@yahoo.com
4:39
What is the latest on Cookie Carrasco???
Anthony Franco
4:39
Mets announced it as low back tightness, nothing beyond that right now
Al Avila
4:40
Do I get lots of calls on our relievers? Surprising area of strength for the Tigers
Anthony Franco
4:41
Yeah, guys like Chafin, Fulmer and Gregory Soto should all draw interest. They'll probably get calls on Alex Lange and Will Vest too but I doubt they'll get anything compelling enough to move either
Guest
4:41
Do u see Benetendi, Merrifield and Taylor all being moved?
Anthony Franco
4:41
Not Whit. The other two, yes
Boe Jiden
4:41
You see Joc getting a longer deal this offseason or does the fact he’s basically a platoon player scare teams off from a longer deal?
Anthony Franco
4:43
He'll beat 1/6 if he keeps up anything like this pace all year, but I think he's probably capped at three years (more likely two) given the platoon concerns and lack of defensive value
Guest
4:43
rumors are that the braves are in on bieber what would any package start with besides waters
Anthony Franco
4:43
Why would the Guardians trade Bieber? Cleveland's good
KS Rangers
4:43
If Texas doesn’t extend Martin Perez, surely he’s dealt? What can we hope for return? Then resign him in offseason!
Anthony Franco
4:45
Yeah I think he'll get moved, probably for a return that Rangers fans find underwhelming. There'll be interest in any affordable and productive starter, but the lack of swing-and-miss probably means teams see him as a back-end guy than a breakout ace all of a sudden
Les Gomez
4:46
How does Billy Eppler not make a move immediately to reinforce the Mets’ pitching? They can’t keep waiting for all these guys to come back
Anthony Franco
4:47
Scherzer's probably going to be back this weekend, and teams aren't parting with high-end talent at this point on the calendar. Even the obvious sellers are waiting things out to let other teams determine whether they're buying right now. Have to just let things play out with your depth for another month or so
Brewers fan josh
4:47
Michael a Taylor to the brewers?
Anthony Franco
4:48
Makes sense. There's a bunch of teams that need center field help, Milwaukee among them
Dan
4:48
Who’s a bullpen arm not being talked about enough who might end up getting traded this summer?
Anthony Franco
4:49
Scott Effross maybe. He's quietly been really good for the Cubs
4:50
He's controllable but already 28 and relievers are volatile, so they'll at least listen to offers
Matt K
4:50
Anthony, what kind of "sources" do you MLBTR writers depend on to break or report info?  After all, you work for MLB "Rumors".com.
Anthony Franco
4:51
I basically never break news. Steve and Tim have some industry connections, but for the most part, we're aggregating from reporters with track records and adding context thereafter. We're not reporters
John
4:52
What kind of prospect can Mancini bring back? I know the answer. Not even a top 150 guy. So why would the Orioles not trade Santander while he has another year of control?
Anthony Franco
4:53
I think they'll trade both guys you mentioned
rocco
4:53
what do the Rockies have to deal? Grichuk? Chacin? Bard? Estevez?
Anthony Franco
4:53
Kuhl and Bard feel the likeliest to go. They should take offers on Cron but I don't expect them to since he's under contract for next season
4:54
Colomé and Iglesias could probably go for a minimal return, but it may be so light they don't even bother
