Anthony Franco
7:31
Hey everybody, hope you're all having a good week!
Probably my penultimate pre-deadline chat, let's do it
Nicholas
7:31
What are the Brewers gonna do? Any potential names?
Anthony Franco
7:32
I've mentioned a few times that I think they're a good fit for Benintendi. Just stick him in center field for a couple months
7:33
Could look into a better righty corner outfield bat than Cutch as an alternative
David Blitzer
7:33
As new minority owner, I want the Guards to acquire a bat or two.  We have plenty of prospects.  Soto is out!  What about Murphy? Contreras? Happ?  Bell?   Any shot?
Anthony Franco
7:33
I agree with the Guardians' need for another bat, did a full post on it yesterday
7:34
Murphy does feel like the kind of guy they'd like if Oakland makes him available. If not, I think they're a viable fit for Garrett Cooper or Christian Walker as an affordable corner type
Natsman
7:34
Odds taht Soto is gone by August 2?  (I don't think he will go.)
Anthony Franco
7:35
I also think it's unlikely before the deadline, although I do think he'll be moved by next Opening Day
7:36
Two weeks isn't a lot of time for the Nats to sort through the offers they're getting. Waiting until the offseason opens up more return possibilities because the 2022 draftees are in play. Obviously it no longer seems impossible he moves this month, but it feels more like they'll use the next couple weeks to set the stage for more substantive negotiations in December
John
7:36
Does the Orioles drafting Holliday impact their chances of signing Correa or Turner this winter?
Anthony Franco
7:37
Nah, teams aren't going to change their free agency approach based on this year's draft. If Holliday's great  five years from now and you signed Correa, one of those guys can just play second base
Tim
7:37
Do you think the Braves will trade for another bat?
Anthony Franco
7:38
Yeah I think adding another corner outfielder/DH fits there so they're not counting on Rosario or Ozuna as much as they'd be now
Could look into second base too, I guess, although it seems like Albies is on track to be back in about a month so Canó/Arcia might just hold it down until then
Guest
7:39
Does Ian Happ have a market? Do the cubs trade him?
Anthony Franco
Absolutely has a market, I think he might bring back more than Contreras with the extra year of arb eligibility. Should trade him, and I lean towards they probably will
Eric
7:40
What would a Twins package for Montas or Castillo look like?? Do you think either team would have interest in Jose Miranda?
Anthony Franco
7:41
Yeah Miranda's an interesting piece in those talks. Could see him being a little divisive because the approach is iffy but he's a viable headliner in my view
7:42
Would need to add another legitimate prospect in there though. Josh Winder or Spencer Steer maybe?
Steve-o
7:42
Any chance the angels get any offers on ohtani worth considering?  Who is most likely to get dealt....and what kind of return?
Anthony Franco
7:43
I can't see this happening until next summer's deadline at the earliest
Dave D
7:43
Who will be playing CF for the Phils in  the wild card round of the playoffs?
Anthony Franco
7:44
Michael Taylor?
Grayson
7:44
Do the O’s still trade Mancini? It would be a huge blow to the clubhouse and fan base plus they could probably get an equal return shall they tender him a QO (admittedly unlikely) as if they trade him.
Anthony Franco
7:45
Probably depends on where they sit two weeks from now. I'd lean yes but if they manage to stay within 2-3 games of a Wild Card it becomes harder to do, particularly since the return isn't going to be overwhelming
If they're 5+ back, he probably goes
Josh Alford
7:46
Is jurickson profar an everyday player for the padres after the trade deadline?
Anthony Franco
7:46
I think they'll find a way to squeeze in another bat but keep Profar in the lineup between LF/DH in that case
7:47
Luke Voit though? Eh
Voomo
7:47
Chris bassett. His numbers vary greatly from catcher to catcher.  With McCann he is an Ace. With McCann injured?
Anthony Franco
7:48
Wouldn't put much stock into that. He was a really good pitcher for the past few seasons in Oakland. Not an ace, but a fine #2 or really good #3
What's Next
7:48
What moves to you expect for the Jays... left handed bat, starting pitching and/or relief?
Anthony Franco
7:49
Yeah that all feels about right. I'd probably order them rotation, bullpen, lefty-hitting outfield in terms of priority, but they're all logical target areas
Scott
7:49
Do the Reds move Drury?
Anthony Franco
7:50
Absolutely, no reason not to
Iso slugging hard hit rate
7:51
How can I find meaning in comparing iso, hard it rate and slugging per cent age? Do the 3 correlate at all? If a low hard hit rate guy had speed to create doubles, does that skew stats?
Anthony Franco
7:51
ISO and SLG are counting the same thing, so they're going to map pretty well. ISO's just subtracting batting average from slugging, so it takes out the guys with inflated slugging numbers because they hit a bunch of singles
