Anthony Franco
7:37
Hey everyone, looking forward to my first post-deadline chat
7:38
Before we get rolling, I'll throw out a quick crowd-sourcing question to take advantage of my one platform to hear from a bunch of people from all over the country
I'm headed to Cincinnati for a few days next week and would appreciate any food/coffee recommendations people familiar with the area have. Thanks in advance!
7:39
Alright let's get started
Royals Fan
7:39
Do you think the young royal’s pitchers could be able to be competitive in the next 2-3 years? Singer and Bubic have had success recently, but is it sustainable, and will others be able to follow suit?
Anthony Franco
7:39
Big believer in Singer. Not an ace because of the platoon concerns but an above-average #3 type
7:40
I'm not especially optimistic about Bubic, Lynch, Hernández, etc. Generally think they're going to have go outside the org for at least one starter this offseason
Derrick Hall
7:41
what do the dbacks do with their lefty OF glut this offseason?
Anthony Franco
7:41
I could see them trading Jake McCarthy if the deal presents itself but if he ends up as a fourth outfielder, it's not the worst thing in the world
7:42
We're kind of past the point where Pavin Smith is going to affect the organizational plans, and Peralta's obviously already gone
Guardians Fan
7:42
Do you believe the guardians will be active in the offseason?? They’ll know more about their young guys and next year starts Jose Ramirez’s extension. You would think they would be aggressive in the trade market.
Anthony Franco
7:43
Yeah, in a Guardians kind of way obviously. I don't think they're going to dive into the top of the free agent market, but they've got basically nothing besides Ramírez on the books for next season
7:45
Guessing they'll try to make another run at Sean Murphy. Hedges is off the books and that reduces the pressure to lean on Bo Naylor immediately. Could look to deal from the rotation again, maybe see if there are ways to upgrade on Amed Rosario
Cub fan
7:45
Extension chances for conteras
Anthony Franco
7:46
Very slim. They've shown no interest in that to this point, which is fine given where they're at competitively
Even keeping Contreras doesn't make that team anywhere close to a contender next season. They're not really in position to be pushing nine figures on a bat-first catcher, in my view, no matter how much Contreras seems to love it there
Kevin
7:46
Should the Giants have taken the highest bidder on Rodon?
Anthony Franco
7:47
Eh I think their optimism was understandable, and they're going to get a draft choice if he walks
7:48
They've played badly since the deadline and probably wish they moved him in retrospect, but I get the inclination to give that core every chance you could with how well they played last season
Simon
7:48
If Matt Carpenter is out for the rest of the year, what sort of contract do you think he could get in free agency?
Anthony Franco
7:49
Man, this is a really interesting question I haven't given a whole lot of thought to. I still like him at one year but I could see somebody tossing like $10MM to him based on the swing change narrative and how great he's been
Bud black
7:49
How much longer do I have a job?
Anthony Franco
7:49
(Rockies manager)
7:50
I don't think they're on the verge of a change. Fiercely loyal organization that has continually maintained they're building something there. Guessing he'll be around basically as long as he wants to be
O's Aren't Dead
7:50
Do you think this team is for real or just winning on smoke and mirrors?
Anthony Franco
7:51
What they're doing is pretty incredible
I don't want to say "smoke and mirrors," that feel harsh. The bullpen is legitimately good, and that helps you win a bunch of close games
7:52
That said, I do think they're playing more over their heads than truly a playoff contender. I'd still pick against them to make the postseason, but I'm glad they keep winning because it's fun to watch and the fanbase deserves some excitement

7:52
If Red Sox don't sign Bogaerts, Do you see them going after Turner or Correa?
Anthony Franco
7:52
I feel like the Story signing was their preemptive Bogaerts insurance
Barney Coolio
7:53
Do you think Wil Myers plays in the majors after this year?
Anthony Franco
7:53
Yeah I still think he'll get a major league deal this winter
Barney Coolio
7:53
Do you think Jurickson Profar opts out of contract?
Anthony Franco
7:55
Yeah he should beat $7.5MM pretty easily. I could see him opting out but the quickly re-signing on a multi-year deal at a slightly higher AAV given how much SD seems to love him
I hated that move for the Padres at the time, but Preller's never-ending faith in Profar has paid off this year. Credit to them for sticking with him

Angels have proven the issue with the team was not Madden. Where do they go from here? Unfortunately they can't fire the owner but hearing they have had 7 straight seasons under .500 says their philosophy needs to change.
Anthony Franco
7:56
Kind of have to do the same thing next winter, I think. Don't see why they'd be more willing to trade Ohtani during the offseason than they were at the deadline, so basically add around the margins and hope for better next year
7:57
Need middle infield help, probably an outfielder after the Marsh trade. Going to have to backfill the rotation. Give it one more shot and if it's not working again, they're probably trading Shohei next summer and starting completely over
Blue
7:58
Who could be your #1 starter for Dodgers if PO starts now?
Anthony Franco
7:58
Urías
