Hey everyone, hope you're all having a good week!
Nearing the stretch run now, should be an exciting final month-plus. Let's talk about it
Mr. Guardians

Should cleveland trade Amed Rosario in the off-season a give Brayan Rocchio the opening day SS spot next year?? Not a fan of Amed at all and don’t really think he’s as good as his stats say. Rocchio can be a star.
Anthony Franco
5:33
I'm not a huge Rosario fan either, although to his credit, he's making more contact this year than ever before
5:34
I'd be open to trading him but they don't have to force anything this winter necessarily. Rocchio's 21 and has three games at Triple-A. I don't think it'd be stunting his development to send him back there for a month or two to open next year, optimistic as I am about him long-term

If I lose my Right fielder is it then a complete roster redo ?
Anthony Franco
5:34
(Yankees)

They're not going to tear everything down if they lose Judge, no. The team is good, albeit not at the level they played for the first half. Of course, an MVP caliber season from Judge is a huge reason for that but if he walks, they'll add another regular or two in his place
Rotation should be pretty strong going into next year. Could look into upgrades on the left side of the infield again. Bullpen should be excellent, as it usually is

I'm super intrigued by Rich Hill's purportedly 2023 plans. What are the playoff roster rules he would need to follow in order to be eligible to hypothetically join a playoff team mid-season?
Anthony Franco
5:37
Just have to be in the organization by September 1
John
5:37
Do you see Judge to the Rangers as a legit possibility?
Anthony Franco
5:38
I feel like pitching's going to be the priority over another megadeal for a position player there, but I'm sure they'll at least check in on the market
5:39
Would I be floored if he goes there? No, they're going to spend and will probably be involved on everyone besides the top shortstops. But they wouldn't be in my top three suitors

Does Tim ever do any chats? And speaking of chats, will we get any player chats durning the off-season?
Anthony Franco
5:40
Tim will do a chat on very rare occasions, usually when we release the Top 50 free agents and sometimes around the trade deadline
I'm sure we'll try to enlist more player chats this offseason. Those are always dependent on players' willingness obviously

Do I lose my job under a new owner
Anthony Franco
5:40
(Angels)
5:42
Not uncommon for a new owner to bring in a new baseball ops team when they come in. I don't think it'll happen right away; the sale probably won't even be finalized until late in the offseason. But if the team isn't good again in 2023, I think they'd make a change
White Sox
5:42
Is the organization closer to a rebuild or competing for a World Series?
Anthony Franco
5:42
Hmm, interesting question. I still lean World Series
5:44
A core of Anderson, Cease, Giolito, Robert, Eloy, Vaughn, Abreu if they bring him back (which I expect they will) is still really strong. Moncada obviously fell off a cliff this year but maybe he bounces back with a healthy offseason
It's a flawed roster and the lack of both payroll flexibility and farm talent makes it a tough needle to thread. But there's too much high-end talent here to tear it down

Hometown ties help in extending Swanson with Braves?
Anthony Franco
5:45
Can't hurt. I do think they'll get something done, maybe even before the start of the offseason
Ethan Schwartz
5:45
What are your thoughts on how the padres will finish this season and if they will make the playoffs
Anthony Franco
5:45
Still feels like a playoff team to me
htxclayton
5:46
which teams would be interested in Correa assuming he opts out. what would his new contract look like??
Anthony Franco
5:47
Any of the teams that could lose one of their own shortstops (Red Sox, Braves if they don't re-up Dansby, Dodgers if they're willing to anger a segment of their fanbase). Phillies make some sense, Angels fit on paper but probably won't spend at that level
5:48
Can't rule out a new long-term deal with the Twins. Cubs and Orioles make sense as dark horses, Mariners and Giants do too. There's a lot of possible fits since even teams with a solid shortstop can bump that guy elsewhere on the infield
5:50
I like Correa at eight years in the 220-240 range. Below where we had him last year (incorrectly obviously) but still would have him third behind Judge and Turner in this class personally
Bob
5:50
Should Baltimore be giving Mateo a starting spot next year, or is this year a fluke?
Anthony Franco
5:51
Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to pencil him in somewhere but I don't think he's a consistent three-win player with that kind of plate discipline
5:52
I'd be open to shortstop upgrades with a fallback of kicking him to second base or a utility role alongside an external addition and Gunnar Henderson
Taylor
5:53
Who wins the AL west in 2023 assuming JV leaves Houston?
Anthony Franco
5:53
Still the Astros

Does a player need to be non-tendered in order to take a paycut during arb years? (A la Bellinger who almost certainly won't be worth his 2023 arbitration price tag).
Anthony Franco
5:53
Pretty much. Arb pay cuts are technically possible but they never happen
5:54
Agree on Bellinger, I would (and think they will) let him go
